- Head lice infestations are caused by parasites that are found on human heads. Hair lice infestation is an annoying communicable problem, therefore early medication is very important in the treatment of hair lice infestation. There are several prescription products that can be used in hair lice removal and for people interested in natural home remedies, there are many options as well. Head lice treatment consists of anti-parasitics medicated shampoos, lotions or combing and shaving head is also helpful in removing the Lice eggs(nits) from the hair.
Lice eggs (nits) are difficult to see because of their tiny size and can be spotted around the ears and the nape of the neck. Lice eggs or nits can be mistaken for dandruff, but unlike dandruff, they can't be easily brushed out of hair.
In medical terms Pediculosis is the term for an infection with head lice and the word lice is plural for louse.
Head lice infestation can spread from person to person through direct contact with the hair of an infested person and is a common problem with children.
Although less common, head lice can spread by personal contact or the sharing of combs, brushes, caps, and other clothing.
