    Great video Bruce! I think this will give a lot of people the needed enthusiasm to build their own and get rolling.

    WOW I am impressed with your craftsmanship. I have seen many teardrops, and yours is built to very high standards.
    The whole while watching your video I started off with the impression that it was an over build.. yes, but the overall product was VERY well worth the watch.
    Thanks for posting this.

    Great music choice in addition to the cool build. If you're going to build something you really need to build it right without taking short cuts on safety to limit cost.

    I like how you used the L-brackets inside the galley door, good way to hide any screw holes, I think I will try that on our next build.

    thx for posting your vid. i've thought about building one like that and after watching how you built yours i'm completely sure i would rather buy a t@b trailer and just spend the $8k. yours is awesome but it would take me 2 months to build that and i'd spend at least $5k doing it. but wow man....you did a really nice job.

    I took everything we leaned from camping in the teardrop and designed/built another trailer from the frame up. There's not that much difference between a 5X8 and a 5X9, just make sure you go 5' wide. Our replacement trailer is called the Boxcar and there's a build video of it.

    I used 3/4" aluminum angle from the home center that I annealed and bent around the curve. Pain in the rear to do given that they sell trim for RVs that can be easily bent.

    @GreedIsYourGod 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wonderful work, great details all around, good job documenting it as well. The only thing I can't see is how you could bring yourselves to sell it? If I made something like that it would be in the family till I die. I like that you did not use plans. I think (if one is a good craftsman) plans are vastly overrated. People need to trust their creative instincts.

    Great video, and nice rig. It looks sturdy and functional. I'm considering building my own teardrop camping trailer, but I need to keep the weight down to say 600-800 lbs. empty, so I can easily pull it with a Ford Focus.
    How much does your trailer weigh?
    What do you pull it with?

  • @bdosborn
    @bdosborn  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    The trailer is a 4'X8'. That was a bit too narrow for us so we sold it and built another trailer.

  • @wrestleforpizza
    @wrestleforpizza 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome video!!! How much does this weigh? Could I pull it safely with my light duty pick up truck? My little Ford Ranger with a four banger and 5 speed on the floor comes to mind.

  • @bambislicer
    @bambislicer 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    typically, a police officer would come out and look at it and write it up as a homemade trailer. just have a bill of sale of some sort. again this is what I went through without a hitch and I'm building mine now. hope that helps

  • @bdosborn
    @bdosborn  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure which hinge your referring to. The hinge for the hatch is a hurricane hinge, the slides for the drawers are from Home Depot.

    gday,,sorry it may have been talked about already,,but was just curious as to what width you made the camper,,here a standard sheet of ply is 2400x1200 (8x4ft)..
    but all the vids i look at the trailers seem wider than that,,,great vid and great job on your camper,,credit to you.

  • @bdosborn

    I love this! Inside and out! I'm wanting to make one of my own, starting with an old trailer frame I can get for nothing. My question is, how do you get a license plate for one of these things? There is no serial number or anything, so, how does it work?

  • @TheSanctuaryPR
    @TheSanctuaryPR 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome build, did you have building plans? If so where did you purchase them?
    Is the trailer from Harbor Freight?
    How the teardrop holding up?
    How much did it cost total?

    George Cardona

    I see, as I read below, that you sold it as it was a little too narrow for you. Did you end up building a second, wider one? If so, did you, or do you plan to, use the kuffel creek plans and just upscale the dimensions? If not, what plans did you, or are you planning on using? I am doing lots of research to find plans for a 5X8 or 5X9. Thanks!

    Teardrops weigh anywhere from 900# and up, depending on how they're built. Your pickup shouldn't have any problems pulling one.

    Did you find putting your ribs horizontally on the hatch that it caused the hatch to spring back or have problems? I've read that vertically is optimal. Also, have you had problems with the HF bearings going out and being difficult to replace?

    • @kennethwers
      @kennethwers 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KathyLinn Garcia I have a teardrop on a HF trailer(10000 miles) the only people I here that have problems with the bearing are those that don't clean the packing goo out of the bearings and pack with good grease.

    • @bdosborn
      @bdosborn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ribs are horizontal on the hatch. I clamped the hatch to a bench when I glued the skin on it, that helped with the spring back. HF bearings are fine, no problems with them. You order spares at the HF store.
