Allen you are the voice of reason with these high megapixel marketing campaigns. For my needs and style of photography the Nikon D780 camera gets the job done. A 24MP DSLR camera with excellent high ISO performance and image quality and with a catalog of F-mount and legacy lenses is really all I need. Thanks so much for your impression and analysis as a real world working photographer.

There has been very little difference in photo quality since 2015 sensors. Most of the advancements have been in video and AI-powered auto focus. If you don't shoot video, or don't need AI detection autofocus, there is no urgency to upgrade the camera.

Very informative video and reaffirmed my feeling about z8 vs z62 IQ as I own both of these cameras. For the enthusiastic wildlife photographer autofocus of z8 and IQ of z62 would be an ideal camera.

"only 4 F mount lenses are really suitable for any sensor over 36Mp...". Could you remind us which 4 again? Thanks.

@@CreativePixelPhotos Great. That’s what I was long looking for. I never believed the Nikon announcement concerning their interpretation of what lens is good enough on D810+. No I know

Ah the lure of the "Spec sheet" is still strong, yet I find these days I am almost utterly bored of "the next best thing"
    As a D800 and D780 user, I have almost 0 interest in this. I simply don't need 8K raw video I don't need 20fps, or plane AF/Pet modes. I'd wager most people don't either
I can still do 95% of what I need with a D800 and I can buy a lot of D800's for the price of one Z8. The D780 is useful for video/silent shooting

I'm shooting a D750 / D800E combo and not one client has ever asked about what camera I own, it's character, sharpness, autofocus modes, megapixels or anything. Also focus recomposing is quicker than moving an AF focus point so I'm still yet to figure out why a photographer would even bother upgrading - video is obviously a whole different story.

Allen, I can buy a NIkon D780 new in New York for $1,400 U.S. Body only. The Z8 is $4,000. It is really worth the extra outlay? I could just get a 2nd dedicated video camera with the savings.

Depends on what you shoot. If you need crazy fast AF and 20fps etc then maybe the Z8 is worth it. I don't rate 45mp and would prefer if the Z8 was 24mp for better image quality. I prefer F mount lenses over the Z's and there's like a million choices whereas the Z lenses are crazy expensive and for me they should have made cheaper smaller 1.4 primes rather than the stupid 1.2s. if I didn't shoot 30/40 weddings a year I'd not have got the Z8 and I'll be keeping my D780 for a very long time

more megapixel compared to sensor size = more detail + more noise.
    102mpx GFX100s has less noise than a D750.

I would think the Z8 would give me better image quality than the other 2 cameras, if that really isn't the case I'm confused.

The Z8 (nd Z9) is the mirrorless version of Nikons D5 and D6. They are all about speed and "getting the shot" hence used by wildlife, sports and action photographers. Also about low light and giving useable images rather than super quality images. No landscape photographer would use a D5 - same here with Z8 and 9. Speed and useabilty. Also higher Mp sensors require better lenses - only 4 F mount lenses are really suitable for any sensor over 36Mp - so many people with a D850 would get better photos from a D750 (if only they knew!)

@@CreativePixelPhotos well, now we know! 😂
I love my d850 for its optical viewfinder, and just the feel in my hand. But I always use medium raw, never shoot at 45mp.
I am therefore considering switching to a d780.
Thanks for your input Allen 😊
Just out of curiosity, which are those 4 f mount lenses I should be using with my d850?

      Its not about image quality…
You can be world class photographer with d3500.
Z8 gives you more features and better build quality.
      But not better IQ.
You can crop lot more with 45mp than 24…
Image quality depends on you, and your editing proces, composition and so on.
