The highest insurance regulator in the country, IRDAI, makes changes in rules and regulations of vehicle insurance from time to time. The increasing number of two wheelers plying on Indian roads as well as the rising numbers of uninsured bikes and road accidents, IRDAI has made a recent change in two wheelers insurance regulations which states that it is necessary for every new two-wheeler to be issued with a long term insurance policy for 5 years.
The change made by IRDAI to make 5 years' two-wheeler insurance mandatory was prompted by a Supreme Court ruling in September 2018. The intention behind this is to make sure that the maximum number of two-wheelers on the roads are insured and to reduce the number of cases of accidents with lapsed or expired policies or uninsured vehicles. Let’s read all about how this works.
It is important to note that the minimum 5 year tenure is compulsory only for third party insurance plans. If you choose a comprehensive two-wheeler insurance cover, then your policy tenure will be for 3 years as opposed to 5 years. A minimum of third party cover at all times is already compulsory under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

The bike insurance premium skyrocketed after the implementation of 5 year mandatory policy. The 1 year renewal was much cheaper & policy holder had choice of switching every year with IDV re-evaluation. I remember of buying a 1st party insurance for my 2 yrs old bike for 1087/-, obviously IDV was less but it did cover...

True.... premium depends on IDV....TATA AIG was showing premium online Rs 864 but the Idv they calculated was Rs 64000 of my bike...so I choose SBI with 0 dep and RTI.

Great video. However., I have a few doubts.
1. Can we only take OD insurance not with TP insurance as in your case we already had TP for 4 more years.
2. In your second insurance bill TP is still there for further 5 more years. Is TP of 5 years complimentary with 1 year OD. Every year, also paying TP (for 5 years) with 1 year OD is not justified.

For one year OD insuarance, one year TP insurance is complimentary. Hence it is also called Comprehensive insurance. And in this case, sir already has 4 year TP but also took 1 year OD, so he got 1 year TP also with that but it's waste. Did you got it?
So my suggestion will be instead of going 5 year insurance of 1 year OD and 4 year TP, go for 3 year OD while purchasing new vehicle. Sir has also mentioned this in description of the video. And after expiry, go for OD always, tenure is your wish.

Jitni tumhe english aati hai, utne samajhdar nahi ho, 3rd party insurance ke sath challan nahi hota, lekin agar tumhari car ka accident ho jaaye ya chori ho jaaye tab own damage cover kaam aata hai accident jisse hua vo tp mein cover hoga, aur teesra hota hai owner cover car ke maalik ka 15 lac ka beema, driver cover, up to 5 passengers cover, engine protection cover ye paani mein engine dubkar kharab ho jaaye tab kaam aata hai ya engine ki warrenty khatam ho gayi ho tab kam aata hai, accident cover engine vo accident mein cover hoga. Doobna kharab hona ye additional lena hota hai.
