    I loved how each level affected another, destroying the fuel depots in one level would mean no helicopters in another it was pretty sweet and made it feel like a war

      This game's worldbuilding and attention to detail was on some next level. I always liked how in every level, the character looks a bit different, in every chapter he changes his outfit that matches the scenario of that whole chapter. by the end, he would be fully armored in a stitched by stitched outfit, showing how much battles he has been in. seriously IO Interactive doesn't get enough praise for their attention to detail

    Freedom Fighters was one of the hidden gems on the PlayStation 2. I remember picking it up on sale, most likely in a bundle. It turned out to be a really good game and a lot of fun.

    • @paperclip9558

      No its not hidden gem. Stop using that term just because its just you who discover the game very late. Its pretty much a conventional aaa release back in the day, everybody knew about it, every big game media picked it up and gave it pretty much good reviews. Great game but not hidden gem nor underrated. It grate my nerves that those term is overused nowadays.

    As an addendum, the game uses Hitman 2’s engine, but they didn’t bother changing the shitty-on-purpose gunplay, so you have a shooter with stealth game gun mechanics. 10/10, tbh.

    Loved this game back in the day, so hoped Io would make a sequel, but they got stuck making endless Hitman sequels.

    I do wish more games would go back to having some more "arcade-y" systems like inaccurate weapons or enemies surviving headshots, since if you're good enough at aiming (or in a cover shooter where the AI is very predictable), you can definitely get in loop of just headshotting enemies over and over.
    I got Freedom Fighters with the Steam Release and I appreciate the game being designed to make you not be able to just headshot everyone easily.

    • @MrZiggy-sk2wg
      @MrZiggy-sk2wg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the inaccurate weapons made you have to use the environment to your advantage, find alternative pathways, get height advantages, things that you don't really need to do in other games because you can just sit outside the enemy's range and pick them off when they can't shoot you, or just plow right through the path of most resistance and instantly headshot any enemy on a machine gun, making them useless, and snipe snipers with pistols across the map.

    I love Freedom Fighters. It's such a great game, and one of the games that would make me set up the original Xbox. So glad it's on Steam

    I was just about to comment on the soundtrack 2/3rds through the video, but he put it so aptly. The music has stood the test of time so amazingly well. I like to use it as a workout playlist, since it has this driving force feeling; it screams "never give up".

    The Homefront series had somewhat similar themes like Freedom Fighters, though the invading enemy were the North Koreans.
    And unfortunately the last game (Homefront The Revolution) bombed hard, so I imagine that isn't reassuring for IO Interactive when it comes to making a sequel to this obscure game.

    • @innoclarke7435
      @innoclarke7435 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Homefront: The Revolution bombed hard because it was a buggy, unoptimized mess at launch that was just a more urban copy of Far Cry, while *also* being a sequel to a mostly forgotten subpar shooter from the early '10s that had a very uninspired and uninteresting campaign. Neither Homefront game failed because of the concept of an occupied America, they failed because they just weren't very worthwhile games. Freedom Fighters, however, is a cult classic that was expertly designed by a studio that still exists and still employs good designers today that could make the concept succeed again.

      Does the 1st homefront have similar mechanics as freedom fighter? Recruit soldiers and take down bases or sum
      Played homefront revolution its ok you can only recruit 4 men to fight for you and there dumb asf you can't even command them like go here, stay there. Godfather 2 have better squad order

    a remake of this game could be insane if they do it right
    because they can scale up everything, the number of enemies and making the enemy more intimidating with more tanks and helicopters and militaristic presence and a scale that the original game couldn't have because of hardware limitations.

    This game has such fond memories with me and my older brother. We'd play the multiplayer all the time and his annoying ass would camp the LMG spawn and just destroy me. Lol The game was left on the floor one day in the box and someone stepped on it, so I never got to play it again. :(
    I would instantly buy a remaster and wouldn't even think about it. To hear this game's amazing soundtrack again would be divine.

    I’ve played this back in the day on my ps2, as well as on steam. It’s such an amazing and unique game that I wish had more popularity! I had such a fun time sending my team to sections of the map to guard, it made you feel tactical.

    I remember getting this game for the Game Cube one day in Hollywood Video, my mom said she didn't have enough for a new game so to get a used one, there weren't many Game Cube games and most were sport games so I picked this one up and didn't play it for months until I got bored of my other games. I ended up getting into the story and actually enjoyed the whole game, I still own it, too.
