Oh man, I just cleaned out one of my Split Westfalias that has been out on a farm and infested with rats. It was awful. I sprayed it down with bleach before I started cleaning. I think two grand is about right. No motor or trans that’s another 2 to 3 grand then you have all the rubber, tires, miscellaneous and you haven’t even started metal work or paint if you’re gonna do that fulltilt perfect Resto it might be worth 30k. But at that point, you’d have 45 in it.😮
@@ocavant yes very nasty! After I cleaned this bus the first time I went back over it with simple green and also did an air fresher. Oh nice what year is your westy I split buses
1k is a very fair price. It is one year only and a single cab but the rust is extreme. If you know how to weld good it shouldn’t be too bad. If not it’s gonna cost too much to repair. Please don’t chop it up though. Get it running and driving and resell. Not sure if being a 68 makes it worth more or just more expensive to fix 😂. It could be a real show stopper but it would mean an immense amount of body work. If that’s not in the budget I’d say go patina and do a rustoration. Bay windows will continue to climb in value and could hold more value especially a 68. The campers are worth more especially 68 and 69. I believe 69 was last year for wide five. 68,69 only year with round reflectors and drum brakes. If you replace the front suspension lemme know, I need the torsion leaves.
@ thanks so much for the information !! Do you need a full set of leafs for your bus? I might have a friend that has some. Yes this bus will be a Rustaration for sure
@ for sure. I’ve had my Westy for about 20 years and still learning stuff. I actually just need the small leafs. I pulled them out many years ago to try and lower the bus. They are the skinny leafs that go at the tops and bottoms of stacks so two per tube. Four total. Or I will take the whole stack if your friend has them. I lowered it correctly and now my ride sucks cuz I’m missing torsion leaves. Oh and the rear view mirror is also one year only on a 68. Worth about $200 on samba sometimes so save that.
@@SanDiego_VDubLife yes I did for get about that!! It’s longer Ok cool I was going to pull some leafs out of this bus to lower a little bit so I might have some for sale also but I will ask my buddy first
Nice project sir. Hey. I have a nice OG early bay emblem on my ‘62 sungle(dual treasure chest door )that I’d swap for a OG painted one in fair condition. LMK if you might want to trade or work something out.
My 62 single came with for whatever reason a early bay emblem. I sort of have refused to pay the money out real split emblem cost, but would trade for one I have a couple of the reps they used to make in the early 2000 so I guess I’ll use one of those if I can’t find an OG split one
