    Wanderlust Ironworks, (Him and Autumn) are such great people and so talented! I recommend working with them on ANYTHING metal related, but then as family, I’m biased!

    Andy, you and yours enjoy your vacation and stay healthy and safe. I enjoyed the video and Simon does some great work. Good to see craftsmen employing their trade. I look forward to your next episode and cheers from this old retired coot living in Tennessee and along for the journey.❤️👍😷🍻✌️

    Andy, I have been formally trained in both wood and metal working. I have worked in a couple machine and welding shops and I have my own cnc router shop full of both wood and metal machine tools as well as fab tools. I have had the conversation with people on both sides of it and by and large the metal workers are intimidated with wood and woodworkers are intimidated with metal. I find it interesting and have carved out a niche where I do both. I have been able to do well on certain jobs where I can use a process and machine from the wood world in the metal job and vice versa. I feel like knowing both gives me an advantage over some other shops.

    Once the bodywork is done, you should paint it metallic silver with a lot of flake in it so that it sparkles in the sun like a bass boat.

    I still think you should paint it in a one-off color, something like this 🐙. This would make it truly unique and people would know it’s you and say “There goes Andy in his Airstream” if not a peachy color, maybe a blue. But peach 🍑 would be eye-catching and your kids would love it.
    All the hard work you have put into this, why paint it to look just like any other? Custom jobs need custom paint. 😁😁

    Did he need to anneal the aluminium before working on it, or even whilst working on it?

    • @shackman9566
      @shackman9566 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's a good question as aluminum hardens as you work it.

    as a fellow woodworker/cabinet maker/wood turner etc etc, i really admire your work.but your tinny friend there is an artist using a medium that you and i will likely never master
    the thick aluminum wheel wells are a great idea, a flat that subsequently loses its tread can do a lot of damage to the underside of a trailer. flat tires with peeled tread layers at highway speeds are quite common, typically you dont know that a tire is flat until its too late
    and i've mentioned this before, please replace that copper propane line under the trailer with black iron pipe

    Always good thank you again. As someone who has a few years of experience working with tools of all types I have a couple of suggestions for Simon. He should be wearing a dust mask at least while grinding metal and even better when plasma cutting and a fan to pull the fumes away. And using a grinder to cut metal with out the guard is very dangerous. Those disc can and do shatter and can send a chunk or chunks flying. Not good. If at all possible use a nibbler. Check out Eastwood Automotive for some alternative products that will do the job much safer and will save you money on disc's and won't throw metal particulates into the air, no mask required. Also you, Andy and Simon could both benefit from each other's skill sets as wood working and metal shaping go hand in hand. Old school coach building utilized patterns or bucks made of wood. For really good instruction on metal craft Check out Jere Kirkpatrick here on you tube. This guy is one of if not the best metal man on the planet. He worked with Carroll Shelby building and designing the Shelby Cobra. A couple more good channels Engelscoachbuilder and Iron trap garage, Matt is one of guys who does instructional videos for Eastwood Automotive and their product line. Have a wonderful blessed day and stay safe.

    Why replace with buck rivets? That section is not structural. Pop or Olympic rivets should work just fine!

    I love your work and your channel, but wear a mask. I know two folks who have died so far. As a public figure, you can show social distancing and still make great content. I also am a maker in a rural area, but this is real.

      It's pretty much impossible for them to work for so long in such close quarters without spreading anything they have to each other.
      They would have to be wearing proper masks, none of which should be sequestered away from medical professionals. The cloth face coverings people are wearing these days wouldn't have done much to prevent spread during a prolonged contact like this, they're only meant to reduce the risk involved with short contacts.

    Nice video Andy, but I personally think you should try to pack more content into each episode and not spend as much time doing some things. I think that more progress is what gets viewers to stay interested in the series. Overall very interesting.

      I actually totally agree with you! I just haven’t been working on it much so the content isn’t there. I should be able to get more content into the videos now that I’m working on the trailer more.

    I still think you should reconsider polish the exterior. Your resale value will be greatly enhanced with the exterior polished. Even though it came originally painted white that is not what the true Airstream fans are looking for when purchasing an Airstream. I know you may think I am not going to sell it ever, but life happens and it will pay off in the end. Just my 2 cents!!!

    • @sarabeth3016
      @sarabeth3016 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is only possible to polish the sides of an Argosy and not the end caps because they're made of a steel composite and not pure aluminum. That's why the Argosy was painted in the first place. It would look very strange to have painted end caps and polished sides.
