What I love about Mariah is that she hasn't performed this song for 10 years, hasn't sung it this well in over 14 years and still found a way to pull it off like it was nothing.
I honestly wish Mariah didn't hold back as much. That F5 belt at the end that she stopped doing in 1992 she just did it like it was nothing!
And to add, this was her first song on the concert usually because it was the hardest, but here it was the 13th and it was near perfection.

This was definitely live but idk y in the comments ppl compare her to other older singers. Yes thise legends r older and can still sing but this is what sets them apart from her. Mariah Carey has vocal nodules they dont. And because of these nodules and overusing her voice she lost it fast. Yea she dnt sound the same anymore but she can still sing and hit those notes. Maybe not as strong but good and satisfying at least 2 me. My opinion.

everyone has bad days...weve all seen it...no artist is immune.
In my opinion the public focuses on her with a microscope because of her FLAWLESS voice in 1989. But we see now performances like this that blow the critics out of the water. No critic would say..hey check out this awesome performance of Emotions she did. No way...every so often people scrutinize a really bad performance and rip it apart. But those are few and far between and all of her other performances are stellar...the other 364 days of the year performances that we don't see highlighted...just my thoughts...will always love her even if her vocal cords were removed... the contribution of song style and genre lyrics would make me a fan,....even if she sounded like shit.
To be fair other legends dont perform as much as she does

Why do people hate on her because of her loss in range? That happens to many singers as they get older. What's more upsetting is that she seems to pretend that it hasn't happened, and it seems to be point of major insecurity. Why not create a new arrangement that uses what she has, rather than turning out this MOR, frequently off-pitch improvisation. The backing track for the ultra-high notes I don't mind as much as the backup singers imitating some of her original parts. She still has a beautiful voice and the talent to show it off. That's what I want to see.

Yup this was the first time she sang it since 2000
She hasn’t sang it for 8 years because that’s one of the songs that were tiring her voice since it’s really hard to sing, so it was clever of her to stick to the easy songs to not tire out her voice

What exactly is everyone complaining about? This performance is almost identical to the actual original recording. Yeah her voice is a little airy, but that's the natural course of the human voice and in many ways it sounds really sexy.

Her chest voice is pretty good here. The whistles are pre-recorded but that's fine. I'm more impressed with chest voice anyways. She did good.
