@@kylew4301 It takes away what makes the Miata truly great! Having full control over how much or how little power and torque you give through a particular corner is crucial.
Finally got a hardtop and couldn’t figure out how to get my trashed soft top out of the car. Your guys company name looked insanely familiar and I remembered I bought a black NA trunk lid off of you guys like last month. Now you’ve helped me out twice. Thanks bois!
Thank you so much for this! I love that you started with the tools needed and then gave alternate options for a few things. I thought this would take me forever but it was a really quick job!
Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! On NB1 99 I found two more wires on the driver side, when I was lifting the softtop. The wires seemed like a ground to the frame and kind of a spring button (sensor) - may be a part of theft protection system left. Window heater connectors were already done.
Thanks for this - was a big help, though one thing missing - there;s two T4 bolts either side for holding on the hard top that aren't included/mentioned here - maybe they don't use hard tops in sunnier climbs, but Scotland does have it's share of cold and wet weather - still immensley helpful though. thanks
I'm installing a rollbar, and I was thinking it would be easier if I took the top off first. But, I don't think I will after watching this. I'm worried I'd never get it back on and not leaking. Thanks for posting...
As much as the soft top is in the way of the rollbar install, it's definitely better to just leave it in place. I personally hate installing softtops on cars with rollbars, it's even more in the way.
Very quick thorough and to the point. Curious how long it would take for a complete removal and replacement of top and rain rail (average time for home mechanic, not someone who’s done it a bunch already)…? Also, Besides cleaning drains, is there Anything else you would suggest doing or changing why you have top off? Are new door seals normally needed? Thank you!!!
Tip from me for removing the inner rails (what he does at around minute 5): if you don't have a tool for removing the clips, you can just yank the carpet around them. Just give them a firm and fast tug. For me, 1 clip broke and 2 went through the carpet, but the carpet didn't get damaged and these clips basically cost nothing. Also it is totally safe to sit on your center console, at least if you are under like 200pounds. Makes it very easy to do that step
Thanks for the information. I just found a good NB top at pull a part for $109 and I wanted to know how to remove it. My Miata is red with a black top, an NA. The NB is a tan color, and ought to be a lot cooler, plus I'll be able to use in inside mirror. I need to get my butt over there but I have a car in the shop that must go today.
I’m removing my soft top completely since I finally got a hardtop, the only thing I should put back is the inside rain rails and those metal brackets ?
Where do you live and do you do this as a business? I have led lights install and new top. Time is not my friend lol😂 let me know have money no time thx. You did and amazing job keep up the good work.
Would it be ok for me if I leave the soft top down and put a hard top on for the winter season. Does this damage the soft top if it stays down for a couple months?
Yes it would! If it's a top with a plastic window, as long as it is folded down evenly it'll be perfectly fine. I would just wait till a warm day to try to bring the top back up since the plastic windows get very brittle in the cold. If it's a glass window top then no concerns.
I know No One is probably going to see this because the video is a few years old but for my miata whenever I close the soft top the frame of the soft top doesn’t Bend all of the way right above the The windows it doesn’t go flat and there’s a small gap between the windshield and the top even though the clamps are adjusted. Does anyone know what the problem is
@@PedalMafiaM If you're completely removing the softtop then you wouldn't need the rain rail anymore. They oem hardtop will seal against the car and keep any water out.
I have a 1990 Miata was wondering if a gearbox from a different car would Bolt up or would I have to build brackets and all so can the big bulky airbox be replaced for something smaller
On the 1990-1993 1.6 cars it gets a little tricky to replace the airbox because of the size and shape of the air flow meter. Some companies sell adapters so that you can mount a cone filter to the air flow meter and eliminate the air box, but at that point it's just sucking in hot air so it's going to suffer from a performance perspective. Of those intakes available, the Racing Beat one would be the better option.
I love auto Miatas. They're perfectly useful as parts cars to help keep all the manual NA and NBs on the road :D
Lol, not going to disagree with you on that one!
You beat me to the comment...
Wants wrong with the auto?

THE BEST removal video in the entire internet. Thanks for the detail and tips sir! Now I can save couple of hundreds and do it my self.
Thank you.
Was stuck on the rain rail part, wasn't sure whether I could just tear that thing out and then I found your vid.
Thank you! Hail took out my miata’s soft top and I don’t have the money to lay for someone to swap it! Lifesavers!
Thank you, made the job easy as.
Peeling back the panel works really well if you have a rollbar /cage that prevents you from removing the panel.
I've heard these are a pain to remove but after watching this - I think I'll go ahead and do it myself. Thank you!
Just bought my Miata yesterday, this video makes it seem pretty simple! Now I just have to figure out which top to get lol
Great video! saved me a bunch of time and no needless damage. Here in rainy England, a working hood is a must have!
thankyou 👍
Far better than some that just play loud annoying music and no actual DESCRIPTION ON HOW TO ACHIEVE THIS well done for a good description. Thanks

Do the clips break when removing them? And if not, how can you avoid breaking them

Now you put a cage in it and go racing!

This is for an NB not an NA. NA owners click away dont waste your time
It's damn near the same though.
NA & NB hard & soft tops are interchangeable
