He’s right! I just took the FSOT without studying and passed it easily. The test itself is probably the easiest part, I imagine.

Not that simple for everyone but taking it once just to see what it encompasses is always encouraged.

It isn’t free it’s five dollars. Bombed the written in 2001. Passed it in 2002. Invited to the all day oral exam in 2002. Divided into three sections. A very hard group exercise with 4 observers in the room. A written exercise, and an oral interview. 3 out of 25 passed. I didn’t.
I did a different career for 15 years(forensic psych exams) I just took the written this last Saturday. Bombed it. I’ll take it again in 2020. Never give up.

Does FSO take into consideration of your background strenghts before assigning you to a certain nation or do they just send you to wherever you are needed at the moment ?
For example if you speak Spanish, would they priorities you to a Latin American or a Spanish speaking country over other choices? Or in my case, since I'm a Korean descent with familiarity with the nation, would they try to fit me into Korea, Japan, or another East Asia before somewhere else?

      Sorry for the late reply.
      1. Sign up for the test here: home.pearsonvue.com/fsot
      2. You have to be 18 to 60 years old in order to take the test, go through the process and be selected as an FSO.
      3. More info on specialists. My page talks about being and officer.

Question about the guy who took it 9 times.. if you take the FSOT exam and pass it and get to the oral and fail that, does that mean you have to take the FSOT again?? Because if that’s true that makes no sense.

I see in the website that you can go multiple directions in this job, as for example: public diplomacy, economy etc. Do you know how it works? Will I work at the embassy? What’s the country you are serving? And last question, how are you planning to progress after this? Just asking because I saw there is a 5 years limit. Thank you for the video.

Hi Rob, question: for current Civil Servants of another agency with years of experience at the GS-11 level, if transitioning into the Foreign Service Specialist, what are the salary requirements? For instance, will there be a pay cut, or if you're choosing a specialist for which you have many years of experience, will they pay you accordingly, or you'd have to start from the entry level of the Foreign Service Pay System?
