Guy complains about the winner's channel being too small, then learns that his company is too small to get away with unethical and illegal business practices. Beautiful.
Ironic, the CEO claimed the small streamer didn't bring them a "single click", while he, himself, managed to single-handedly lose any clicks his company could ever get.
To be fair, it makes sense to not allow "affiliates" into the giveaway if they aren't providing any value in the slightest bit. His mistake was choosing to ridicule them
The best part is the CEO thinking that the small streamer wouldn’t make an impact…and his interaction with that small streamer impacted his entire company into not existing any more…sheesh!
Honestly, as a small streamer and a former ambassador for AB, it was kind of nice seeing people rallying for the small streamers who were talked down on. Its a shame to see good people losing their jobs as the result of one assholes actions. But it was nice to know that as much shit as i talk on twitter, they really went to bat for people like us.
@@ImperiaGin yeah a lot of people came together to make things right, did a lot more for them than AB ever did, as soon as the shit happened everyone started leaving the ambassador program en mass.
It's not 'borderline' illegal, it actually _is_ illegal. Giveaways in the United States are regulated by the same laws that regulate _lotteries and gambling._ Making someone _lose_ when they would have _won_ is called 'game rigging' and it is _super_ illegal. The "McMillions" guy got _37 months in prison_ and owes millions of dollars in restitution.
Man, the McMillions docuseries was so entertaining. I was watching that when everyone else was watching Tiger King. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, please do.
I feel so bad for the winner. Imagine the joy of winning a high end PC (even more if you're in a position where you cannot afford one) then the CEO just tears into you for not having enough clout. Like I'd be decimated
The streamer, KiaPiaa_, refused the pc after they had offered it to her; at that point the situation had blown up and they weren’t giving it to her to honor the giveaway, they just wanted to give it to her to make everything go away. Good for her for not taking a pity pc and standing up for herself.
is that who won originally? that's pretty strong of her, I don't know if i could say not to it, even after this. I guess I don't really have as much of a sense of self worth though... also I'd never be a streamer in a million years, ha ha. I mean unless i could get away with never having to show my face and also could disguise my voice.
@@laughtrack2269 well the fact that Jayz2centz built her a better computer than what she would’ve gotten had she taken the pc should show everyone that you should hold yourself to higher standards when others don’t. I don’t think she would be where she is now if she caved.
I wouldn't be surprised if he took the CEO to court. Technically he's refusing to honor the terms of an official contest, I've seen successful lawsuits come of events like this.

This pains me because I know the feeling of carrying a cool company with a team of dedicated people and dreading the dumbfuckery of a jackass of a boss just living in their own bs mental space.
I think most of us have been there, sadly. I've always wanted to make my own company, and hire all the fucking AWESOME people I've worked with in the past, who were treated like shit, because you know they'd make even better employees for a boss that treated them well... Imagine the good vibes in that company! Too bad I'm a broke bitch...
I was partnered with Artesian Builds on Twitch and honestly they all seemed like great people, I was shocked about the whole situation and immediately ended the contract. Such a shame so many staff were lied to and lost their jobs.
I was surprised to see you join with them a few months ago. I actually bought one of their PCs and it's great, just sucks for the employees. Hope they didn't make you do anything for the partnership
The actions of the CEO not only destroyed his reputation, but the reputations of those who worked directly for him. It's a shame to see that the employees are now without a job that they were passionate about. The community that watched this unfold knows the full story, and I believe would fully support the employees should they ever choose to start their own company *wink wink*.
and that was probably the employees only job they have ever wanted, knowing how dirty industries are now a days, a job with people that also have the same level of passion and care is somewhat rare to have nowadays. Now they’ll probably have to apply to some other shady company.
I don’t think this damages the employees reputation that worked at Artesian. This was something done out of their control and done only by Noah. The employees just happened to get caught in the cross fire.
Well none are really clean of dirty actions they intentionally downclock comps to stop overheating from poor tower organisation, which should really have been a big tell before any of this
this is the DEFINITION of the online domino effect, i couldn't imagine being the employees sitting through this just watching this all go down in record time. i hope they all get new opportunities in a much better managed company.
unfortunately, a lot of companies do this all the time, they're just not stupid enough to do it on camera. some "giveaways" are literally nothing more than PR Packages, companies choose the profile with a decent enough following because they assume the person is gonna brag to their followers and name-drop the brand. the internet really facilitated a bad practice, and now we finally see some backlash
Yeah, it's almost like the meme (I dunno if it was an actual photo but I don't doubt things like that happen) where a guy was so lucky he won a lottery and the next day the love of his life appeared before him, so lucky! So yeah, no coincidences 😁
There have been countless companies like this in the gaming/creator space for a decade now. But most of them have gotten away with screwing smaller creators overs. It's never talked about because they usually hold leverage and the bigger creators are treated so well that the positive voices are too loud. It usually takes years for bad practices to surface, but usually when it's too late or the company is gone. We got to see this one in real time and that's insane!
Apparently more than just one incompetent act. Apparently the company was split between two offices across the country and one did actual customer builds with the COO managing it but that person left and instead of hiring someone new the CEO managed both. His prior experience was managing the division that solely build PCs for Twitch streamers. Unsurprisingly without a COO he mishandled taxes and got the company's business license revoked.
If the CEO used common sense, he would have known that he and his company would've been praised heavily for handing some of their best gaming PC equipment to even the smallest lesser known streamers of Twitch and those underdog streamers would've been climbing up while mentioning, even recommending, the company which would attract more customers and even raise revenue for the company. It's his own fault.
I was partnered too. I felt really grateful since other PC companies told me I wasn't good enough for them since I focused on cooking streams and community nights. Artesian reached out and was so nice. Can't believe this happened.
From a business perspective, the whole point of a giveaway/raffle like this isn’t for it to be immediately monetarily beneficial to you or for you to gain from that particular transaction. It’s purpose is to build goodwill with your customers. And it’s pretty obvious how important goodwill is considering how quickly a business can fall apart without it.
a good company doesn’t dissolve in a week due to losing some customer goodwill. Could you imagine amazon disappearing days after all of those people were killed in a tornado because they didn’t warn them? No, because its a massive company that does tons of business, and doesn’t have so much debt that a handful of missed purchases sinks the entire company. This is happening in record-breaking chip shortages and inflation - those certainly have a ton more to do with the company dissolving in a week then some tomfoolery by the CEO
I was part of their "ambassador" program. Basically they tricked me into thinking I'd be sponsored by them and get exposure from their social media. All they did was give me an affiliate link and throw me into a Twitter chatroom with 20 random people. Sure wasn't worth the thousands of people they got advertised for, I'll tell you that
The fact that this could've possibly been avoided if the CEO just said "I'm deeply sorry for what I said. I'm giving the winner their PC" is mind-boggling.
Or if the guy just said "Well, we probably won't get a whole lot out of it but it's not like a single PC is going to hurt us financially" and just sent her the fuckin' thing in the first place. Like it's just so petty and vindictive. This isn't a house or a ferrari or some shit. Even if it was literally the best computer you could put together right now, it wouldn't scratch their bottom line let alone dent it. Feel bad for the employees and everybody involved except the CEO.
@@youtubeaccount5904 I agree. I feel like the whole point should be that ANYONE can win, no matter the size or return. Besides attracting more people through give'aways, it's all about planting seeds of good will. The returns are the slowest, but the deepest rooted. If that small streamer becomes big someday the chances they will stick with that brand are much much higher. Good word of mouth is free money. Besides long term gains, why not enjoy life while making money? I'd feel much happier knowing I helped someone who really needed it than another Mr.Beast or whatever.
The stream wasn't the main factor as to why Artesian Builds went under. The company was under a tax fraud investigation and had to declare bankruptcy and let go employees after their assets were frozen. The CEO being a pissyboy was just the icing on the cake
So the winner, kiapiaa, was offered the PC...in an email. She posted it on her Twitter, she responded "no thx. Please remove me as an ambassador." She exploded after this, since her name was on the clip. She went from having 2k followers to 20k in about a day and is applying for Twitch Partner. Her success is the silver lining in all of this
girl even got a top end gaming pc, better than anything artesian wouldve given her from jayz two cents, winner of it all is her definitely, gets to take down shitty ceo and get a sick pc
If anything having a small streamer incidentally win this would have been great for their PR. It builds goodwill, and more importantly, confidence in their company by giving out a multi-thousand dollar asset to a riskier venture. If it was me, I'd rig the contest in favor of smaller streamers to get the PR benefits. The guy who thought this up did a great job, and deserves a better job.
The giveaways were indeed designed for small streamers to win, you had to be an "Artesian Ambassador" to enter, which are in essence all small streamers. The problem was that the CEO suddenly decided the winner was too small even for their program of small streamer partners, even though they had accepted them into the program in the first place.
I guess the CEO's thought was that a larger streamer = more exposure/publicity, compared to the benefits of building up rapport with their ambassadors and forming a good image of the company. Either that, or the CEO didn't think at all before making his comments lmao
This confuses me. This stream happened a week ago and now they’ve had to fire everyone and declare bankruptcy? If that’s the case then they had problems long before the stream. You don’t loose 1 week of revenue and sink entirely after
The COO had apparently left the company about a month ago and he was the person responsible for running the business so when he left the CEO had to do bunch of shady stuff in order to keep it running the stream was the nail in the coffin
@@Parth-Jain-04 thats one way to look at it. Another would be the COO leaving because the company was in deep shit and going to fail. Nobody here seems to comprehend how hard it is to run a tech business right now, you can’t buy ANYTHING, and if you’re forced to you’ll have to buy a component at, no joke, 1000x the cost it was a year ago. I’m certain these guys have been fucked from a whole lot more than “taxes” for probably over a year. And I think it’s safe to assume that a CEO having a breakdown on stream about losing a build to someone who won’t be a good immediate return on investment is a pretty massive symptom of that
"Anyone can win" is the point of *every* giveaway (even the goddamn lottery). It's not who wins that gets someone to recognise your brand, it's the fact that the chance to win FREE STUFF gets the all-important word-of-mouth flowing. Giveaways are not a replacement for a big content-creator doing an ad-read; they exist to boost grassroots brand-recognition. It is beyond me how Noah didn't know this.
@@MHScald Definitely not every giveaway. They made it apparent though that any one can win with them in the past till the CEO went mega brain on the stream.
Yeah that's what I'm saying. Under a good direction Artesian Builds would have milked the shit out of it "PCs are expensive during shortage so let's give a chance for anyone to get a PC free of cost", that's how you build fidelity and brand awareness !! 2k isn't gonna affect your finances, but it's definitely a cheap amount to pay to obtain people's trust.
To be fair they did say it was a giveaway for their ambassadors. The person who won was an ambassador but didnt do anything within their means to actually work as one. Now, does that make it in the right for the company? No not really because no one was really aware of that I don't think. It honestly would have been avoided if the guy didn't come off so snarky. Most people are throwing vitriol because he seems like he's being an asshole. If this was all done behind closed doors with no one knowing anything, nothing would have happened. That probably does speak about the dude's ego though. At the same time, I don't think this one thing should mean the whole company should crumble and collapse entirely. However there's also a point to be made that it having caused that in the first place would deter other companies from doing the same thing. BUT, that could also possibly make it known to make sure instead to do this kind of thing behind closed doors, enabling the issue anyway. It's a really funky situation.
@@StormierNik Artisian Builds chooses their ambassadors. They reach out to the creators they want to sponsor, not the other way around. They chose the person to be an ambassador. It's not that streamer's fault their community's so small no one in their audience had made use of their affiliate code, which they've only had for 3 months - not a long time as a small-time sponsor for anything.
To be clear: losing the business license was due to tax fraud investigation and the company collapsed because of huge mismanagement. I'm sure the recent community backlash didn't help, but it wasn't the direct cause of the company going under.
The livestream fail was the opening regulators needed to go in and investigate- the act of turning down a winner by changing the giveaway rules is itself illegal. So in a way, it was the direct cause because once regulators went in, they discovered even more illegal/unethical stuff.
@@caprimann87 uh taxes and “law” what they did was illegal. Not just that. By saying that the creator was to “small” is a huge give away to why they needed a “huge” creator.

Honestly, when Charlie kept saying it was because he was small, I imagined he was like 4’ even and he was literally too small to properly use a comically large computer/keyboard. Lmao
So Artesian Builds holds the world record in speedrunning bankruptcy now. This is exactly why everything can go to shit when you choose the wrong CEO or leader for any company.

Yeah I'm surprised too about this. Most of the time there's a big enough chunk of apologists in the fanbase that the company can continue to have bullshit practices and get away with it each time. So I'm glad that for once enough people just instantly boycotted them that they couldn't even continue operation. This is first time I have seen something like this. I'm proud that the fanbase realized the power that they have as paying customers/supporters and did a group effort to shut this bullshit down. Good job!
@@zebnemma I think it also depends on company longevity and size. A company as large as, say, Activision Blizzard, would still have a loyal fanbase despite all the controversy they generated because, in addition to their aforementioned size, they've been in the industry for a long time and have garnered a nigh-ironclad, mostly positive reputation. I don't know enough about Artesian Builds' history, but something tells me they're a small player compared to competing brands like Falcon Northwest, NXZT, or Digital Storm; and the thing that sets them apart is their whole giveaway and live streaming shtick. When they're that small and that young of a company, they can't afford any PR disasters like what their CEO did because their core customer base hasn't connected with them long enough for them to forgive any wrongdoing.

The whole point of giveaways is to benefit the company in the long-run. I'd support them not allowing the creator to win because they were providing 0 value as an affiliate. They messed up by going on and ridiculing them
This was not just because of that lifestream, when they signed Stream Partners they already lost their license. The only thing, that noone ever bothered to do, was to check the actual company.
My brother was sponsered by them and got hosted by them on twitch many times, super annoying that theyve done this and turn out to be scam artist. He spent $3k on a pc and still hasnt received it so hes fighting to get a refund asap.
Beside all of that, it wasn't just 1 small streamer he denied. He drew multiple times, and roasted all of the draws that were "unworthy" in similar fashion before the end of the stream.
I'm a now former Mod and Ambassador of Artesian builds, they removed my mod because I backed KiaPiaa and the 2 others poor streamers that got done dirty, I then terminated my contract. I'm actually embarrassed to say I own a PC from them. Then the 3 attempted apologizes from the CEO were laughable. Also the company's FTB has been Forfeited according to records discovered by another person on Twitter. I spent 20 months with the company as a Ambassador and was mod for over a year. I was one of the first 50 followers on their Twitch, nights where the CEO Noah was streaming with no viewers except me. I kept him company so he wasn't alone. Technology has always been very lucrative and its a shame how we get funneled towards those that have been established and on top of the market for years.
My friend was partnered with them and ended her work with them after the news got out too. Seeing how quickly the news spread and how quickly their reputation tanked nearly gave me whiplash. And then the tax evasion got out. What a story.
They fecked up so much that Intel was involved the same exact day. Its one thing to get the community upset but you also got your sponsor upset all in a single day.

They did end up honoring it well after the fact, but by that point the damage was already done and the streamer rightfully told told him to basically fuck off and that they didn't want it.

Correction: the giveaway was held for Artesian builds "ambassadors" which are streamers of any size that had an Artesian builds ad on the bottom of their stream. Which is why the CEO was so mad that such a small streamer won the giveaway (by no way am I justifying this)

This should be a lesson to other asshole executive types like this guy. They forget how important the consumers really are, along with their employees. Especially in the digital age where they get held accountable on a larger scale.
Yeah for sure. Apparently more than just one incompetent act. Apparently the company was split between two offices across the country and one did actual customer builds with the COO managing it but that person left and instead of hiring someone new the CEO managed both.

@@youtubeaccount5904 I agree. I feel like the whole point should be that ANYONE can win, no matter the size or return. Besides long term gains, why not enjoy life while making money? I'd feel much happier knowing I helped someone who really needed it than another Mr.Beast or whatever.
Agreed. He could've apologized and given the winner a pc or even a upgraded one and kept like 8/10th of their popularity
Artesian Builds actually lost their business license due to a tax fraud investigation, so that wouldn't have helped much
The stream wasn't the main factor as to why Artesian Builds went under.
Please remove me as an ambassador." If anything having a small streamer incidentally win this would have been great for their PR.
That's the point of give-away anyway. In the end how the hell did that Noah dude become a CEO.
Rigging a contest? Or just make it so large streamers cannot enter? The former is corrupt.
@@joshuademesa4254 I heard his parents funded the company. Didn't look in to it so dunno if its true.
You don’t loose 1 week of revenue and sink entirely after
Before the live stream, they had their business licence revoked due to unpaid taxes, so it was inevitable
The COO had apparently left the company about a month ago and he was the person responsible for running the business so when he left the CEO had to do bunch of shady stuff in order to keep it running the stream was the nail in the coffin
They were already in deep legal troubles having lost their business license, this was just the final nail in the coffin.
They had tax issues way before, you're right that to lose one week of revenue didn't cause all their problems.

To be fair not "every" giveaway. There are giveaways with only certain people can join, but yeah this was a shitshow.
I'm sure the recent community backlash didn't help, but it wasn't the direct cause of the company going under.
yea but the streamer story is so much cooler so lets just blow that up and go with alternative facts 🥺🥺🥺
The livestream fail was the opening regulators needed to go in and investigate- the act of turning down a winner by changing the giveaway rules is itself illegal. So in a way, it was the direct cause because once regulators went in, they discovered even more illegal/unethical stuff.

One small silver lining is that the streamer who was supposed to win the giveaway has gone from 2k followers to fucking 23.5k so yeah. Actually that number might even be outdated I just saw it on Linus's video
Apparently there's some tax fuckery going on with the company as well. Makes me wonder if they were hesitant about the giveaway's winner because they needed to ensure it would make them more money that it was worth. Doesn't justify or legitimize their bullshit on stream, but it might explain the poor decision-making.

Also the company's FTB has been Forfeited according to records discovered by another person on Twitter. I spent 20 months with the company as a Ambassador and was mod for over a year. True. Think of Jeff Bezos or Zuckerberg. Titans so great they are virtually invincible.
Technology has always been very lucrative and its a shame how we get funneled towards those that have been established and on top of the market for years.

If more CEOs of companies in general did casual livestreams, many more of them would be outed as insufferable people who despise their customers and their employees/partners.
This should be a lesson to other asshole executive types like this guy. They forget how important the consumers really are, along with their employees. Especially in the digital age where they get held accountable on a larger scale.
Yeah for sure. Like obviously some companies can get away with doing bad things but if you're not a huge company that has millions on millions of people buying from you- your actions can decimate your company and your brand. Sometimes bigger companies also get a good spanking from doing bad things, but if someone runs a small or niche thing, they really should be pretty damn careful with how they handle things.
