- Lyrics:
A bout of deep depression.
Can't seem to move it forward.
My lying eyes lie awake.
Not sure what I am after.
I never died before.
Can't help what happened yesterday.
I never stoned the crow, no.
Flip through endless stories.
A life of hand-written pain.
No one can share this hurt that is mine, mine, mine.
I never died before.
Can't be what happened yesterday.
I shouldn't stone the crow, no.
Ride on!
Same old city, same old tale.
No matter how I try,
No matter what I say,
I'm blamed, I'm shamed,
I'm judged unfairly.
So now I've died before.
It feels as bad as yesterday.
I never stoned the crow, no.
You too have died before.
I fought as hard as yesterday
I never stoned the crow, stoned the crow, no, no.
Seriously, this is the kind of music I wanna listen on the radio...Am I right??
Man, I just can't understand why radios don't play even radio friendly rock 🙃
666%!
@@yosenn radios are made to manipulate people, like tv and magazines
I agree but we are in the minority radio stations must be more middle of the road to attract more listeners so they can charge more for advertising. In America it's always about the money.
You could on Sirius.
The fact this was just something they did at the house just to jam together makes it that much better!! Shout out to anyone reading this and you from Louisiana 🖤🤘🏼
This is a great song, indeed! I will add another band that needs a shout out. I have played several of their songs for non-metalheads to great acclaim. The only other song that reach that was "You're sure" by Rumble Militia, although "1916" by Motorhead surprise many (especially those who NEVER heard Lemmy in an interview). The Louisiana band is Acid Bath ("Kite string pops" and "Bones of baby dolls" are generally well liked by a more general public). Dax Riggs has some GREAT solo work, too.
Louisiana strong! 🤘
Phil 1995 - ''Can't believe what happened yesterday''
Phil 2001 - ''Yesterday don't mean shit''
Тони Тодорова live and learn
Your quotes are wrongly dated.
this is probably one of the greatest hard rock songs ever written. It's really hard to find anything as legendary as this song. Few people know it, but when new folks here it they fall in love. It's just one of those songs.
Blacktooth Grinn Hard Rock? WTF
Falken2040 😂😂😂
Henry Krest What? xD
Falken2040 that dude called this hard rock 😂😂
Henry Krest Yeah, he's newbie in the Metal genre maybe
This is what I love about southern metal, you can still hear the blues in it.
Your right 99% of the people dont even understand what you're talking about.
Yep, you can hear a little bit of Skynyrd in it
Well that would be the home of the blues, the Mississippi delta!! All rock and roll stems from there!!
Yep, this is very bluesy for metal and it’s fantastic!
do you know any music like this? i love blues incorperated into hard rock/metal
I've been playing guitar for 46 year's ..... And this song DEFINITELY HAS THAT ENDLESS CONSTANT AWESOME GROOVE !!!! The kind of groove you just can't get enough of ....... At least for all the guy's I been jamming with 😆😅😆😆😆😆😆😁
Jam it !🤘😎
Gives my head goosebumps, a beautiful track 🍻
No matter how I try,
No matter what I say,
I'm blamed, I'm shamed,
I'm judged unfairly.
Isn't that just the greatest line ever? I was just saying a minute ago that that could be the tag line for TH-cam comment sections
@george kaplan - life's so unfair man, nobody understands my views. It's not my fault, it's not that I don't articulate effectively. It's them. It's them. It's their fault, not mine. Hate. Breeds hate.
geekrockrats Dude, I remember I first saw this video on Much Music and was astonished... here's Phil performing a classic, southern track that was unique from Pantera...I don't know how Down found the time to record such an amazing, personal album...as good as any rock album out there
you and me both, brother
George Kaplan welcome to being white
one of the best metal vocalist s hands DOWN!
i see what you did there...
Nice lol. He's the G.O.A.T.
Definitely in the top 5.
Go check out a band called The Sign of the Southern Cross. Seth's vocals are pretty close to Phil's.
Say it with me ladies and gents! UNCLE PHIL
Phil is great. I have a hard time putting anyone ahead of Mikael Akerfeldt though, his absolutely menacing growl contrasted with his angelic clean vocals is just unmatched. Who's your all time fave?
a touch of Southern Metal is always good for the soul :D
The Official Unoffical Pantera Fan Absolutely dude!!!!!
best kind of my metal my dude. the best kind
Maylene and the sons of disaster are fucking sick
This Bitch is Down... I ❤ COC!
The Official Unoffical Pantera Fan ohh!!!!! Fuck yes it is
That scream that Phil lets out while saying "Can't help what happened yesterday!" is so sick! I listened to this CD so much. This song, "Bury Me In Smoke" and "Losing All" are masterpieces of brutal southern blues-metal.
I can't believe such a young group of guys made such a mature album...from the lyrics too the music...grown, mature musicians making timeless music...amazing
Ricky G it was the mid-90’s and Pantera were coming off one of the biggest albums and tours of their career. Say what you want about Phil, but he is immensely talented. This whole band was loaded on talent, and it shows.
@@nathanmartin1850 ive met phil a lot living here in Louisiana . he is one of the most down the earth people you will ever meet . he truly loves his fans and thanks them all the time for giving him the chance to be where he is . hes a big hearted guy that loves everybody and life
I disagree this is all pepper.
My understanding is the actual songwriting is mainly Phil & Pepper. In any event, the deep dark heavy soulfulness, dynamic moods and changes, anti-hero inspiring harmonies so masterfully woven together makes this album not only a classic, but the perfect counterpart to Temple Of The Dog's legendary city /regional supergroup tribute offering. What a splendid 1A - 1B charged by a pack of alpha dogs who had who were inspired to step back and make more heart-felt, soulful, heavy but cathartic songs that could reach audiances well beyong even what they could have imagined. Yes, it's mature beyond it's years. So while great songwriting is crucial, even then, it's only a part of the entire equation to creating a masterwork.
Johnny lang was young he made a mature album when he was 16. Just saying
being drunk and listening to this is awesome
+Drug Addicted Pornstar Somehow, while drunk this song (and every other tune) just rolls up so fast I cannot even enjoy it... Miss some parts
thats what im doing right now lmao
+Drug Addicted Pornstar try being on heroin and listening to it
Bostin McKickass
why the fuck would l wanna try heroin?
That's the only way you'll ever truly understand it.
This song is so awesome! Learning how to play it on guitar now. We need more music like this in today's world.
for absolutely NO REASON WHAT SO EVER, I subscribed to you, your welcome now you have 3 subs, I guess the picture, I don't know but rock on... \m/
CHECK!!!
Bill Weed also just subscribed.
Bill Weed your doing that by learning it your keeping it alive this way,Rock on brother!!!
Tool logo, Primus name, listens to Down, awesome music taste
"No matter how I try,no matter what I say I'm blamed I'm shamed I'm judged unfairly" could be the tag line for the comment sections on TH-cam
Mgeekrockrats cuin
Lifelong Pantera fan but always refused to listen to DOWN until today because I resented Phil. But GOOD GOD WHAT A FUCKING GREAT TUNE
what's wrong with Phil?
@@kapoiosgr he bought the whole "abbotts were angels and never did anything wrong" schtick.
@@kapoiosgrPhil is a white supremacist.
One of the greatest songs of all time
Agreed. On par with The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and 2Pac's "Life Goes On"
NaSamymDnie hahahaha 2pac is the best musician ever

But does it tire of you? That is the question you need to ask yourself...
emokiller907 That depends...is he playing this on cd? Mp3 player? Strictly youtube? What if the internet can wear out? What medium is he playing the music from? Perhaps it is getting worn out too?
I never died before
I haven't heard this song in close to 20 years but it randomly showed up while listening to Pandora and I recognized it instantly. Had to look it up on youtube to hear it again
Brian M dude same here bad ass band was on my iheart at the gym youtube it si fast
Exactly the same scenario for me man. 🤘
Yeah. It's great shit, huh?
Why were you listening to jewellery?
Cuzins in LA,, they're all the Best J. And Just,, Love you..big Brian..#12
Phil has always been in my top 5 metal vocalists, the dudes range and passion is off the charts, yea he's got issues, but fuck we all have some skeletons in the closet, some have whole graveyards.
AMEN BROTHER
Phill is a really nice guy and he's not top 5 he's Numero one.
@@jakemcginnis9872 That would make him top 5.
Best comment, graveyards 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
We're not all racist as fuck though, are we
You eitherunderstand the lyrics, and realize you are not alone..or you might be fortunate enough to have no idea wht any of these words feels like
and in related news( i sound so oficial, but im just reading a qoute from an interview on a radio staionw/ Phil Anselmo)..and yay!! another Superjoint ritual is coming our way soon.cannot wait:)
either way we'll see both kinds in hell
A fucking men.
Hearing them loud and clear. If anyone don't get it, I'm happy for them. I hope they never do.
Metalelissabeth well said. I'm one of the unfortunate ones
I love this song ... the combination of peppers Riffs and Phil voice .. the drums awe some ..bass so good ..
I'm a 10 year old and I love metal music like with phill anselmo he sings this. I love this song
This song keeps me keepin on in this big bad world of sadness
when the volume needs an eleven.

one of the best songs I ever heard this record is insane good,
The genius of Phil Anselmo never dies !!! I love you !

Not sure what I M after
Yu A. Exit at 3 not 12
Yu A. Yeap
I can promise you it's a life altering experience
Nothing better than cold beer and this album on repeat.
Best song to have playing while casually walking away from an explosion...
Nah that's Damage Plan and "Pride"
Righteous southern deep fried metal.
I remember my hot blooded 20-something years with this song. If this didn't motivate me to keep moving nothing else would.
Southern Rock. One of the greats right here!
The fact that Phil could actually sing really stood out for me!!! He showed some promise on a few Pantera songs but his work with Down is truly amazing!!!
For me, Down will always be the best of Phil's bands. I love Superjoint Ritual, and of course Pantera, but Pepper, Kirk, and Phil are such a perfect combination.
ryanspears1986 hard to find an argument with that logic....pure awesome magic
Peppers the Coolest Cat Ive ever met
Fanks for givin a plate to eat . Msg me these bands so i can learn man
That ain't no shit
Better than Pantera? Na cuz
One of the best singers of hard rock/metal
Man that intro is just... awesome... :)
Does not get much better...this song kicks ass!
What a groove, nothing like it in metal.
currently rewatching sons of anarchy and i suddenly felt this strong urge to listen to nola again
When I was young I heard Phil and this remind me of Pantera. Now older and appreciate music differently I hear Corrosion of conformity more
4:04 that is some god tier riffage right there.
+aaron Hell yeah this album is full of badass riffs
Terror Regime oh yeah, every song has a face melting groovy riff
At first few seconds, I was in like flynn just for the jam. Then I replayed it a few times, it's quite powerful. Bravo folks. Bravo!
And this is one of my personal anthems.
I love some pantara but this band is awsome to very good song i love it
this song is like a drug for me.
If you took metal , southern rock and the blues mixed that shit up ,you got this !
This song is so perfect! The acoustic version is actually really good as well. Both are great!
I remember this playing in tv in 90's instead of commercials.. That was beautiful time!
Amen, Jesus. Commercials for powerful addictive medications and booze. Thanks government. Thanks world. Opioids and booze. Only. Pot is for scum. I am scum.
Saw them yesterday....Holy mother of god, best gig I have ever been to :O
A masterpiece, one of my favorite DOWN songs. I like the fact that you can actually hear when Jimmy hits the drums with power and anger just like in "Temptation wings". I neeever stoned the croww no noooo!!
This album is a masterpiece, I saw them play it live in 2011.
Right on man. Lubbock 2x, Austin 1x
I can't believe R. Budd Dwyer arose from the grave just to bring some NOLA Down! Phil has had ups and downs but the art the lyrics are what will stand time beyond!
" You don t throw stones at crows ". stones are words. Anselmo is an extremely spiritual person. Song is about throwing words at people. preferably negative words. crows are known as messengers from the other side of the world. they will FUCK YOU 👆!!! Known as a murder in a group. Symbolistic of Norse God Odin. hugin and munin. Thought and desire. Head and Heart. Also associated with magic. Magic which Anselmo posesess. Highly talented musician. One of my favorites!!!!! Saw them live. AWESOME BAND!!!!!
SOMEONE FINALLY GETS IT

My boss turned me on to this..this band is awesome I can't believe I haven't heard of them till last week love Phil Anselmo and Pantera..this song is my favorite and then bury me in smoke is heavy as hell love it too! Phil ain't ever lost it!

Hell yeah man..I remember being in Alabama and Louisiana on holiday and I just listened to everything Pantera..down...
Crowbar..super joint ritual and really got into the southern life before I had to fly back to the UK...good times man..peace..rock on man
Y'all should check out Rory Gallagher's track 'Bad Penny'. Not suggesting Down copied it or anything, I just always got a similar vibe from both great tunes and if you like this you might dig Rory's too. Enjoy
Graham Martin rory.best guitarist nobody has ever heard
It does sound strikingly similar to Rory's song PENNY hmmm ?

Pure badassery
Mason Crosby unadulterated
Such an underrated song Phil's range in his younger days was unmatched
HIS RANGE HAS DEEPENED

As a good friend once told me, " Sometimes down is better than pantera."
Corpse fans need to bow to what can be done with a voice like this.
4:05 made me fall in love with down, reminds me so much of The Sword, if anyone knows a better riff let me know!!

**EDIT** Hahaha, I just noticed this song was uploaded TODAY, six years ago!
One of the best stoner songs ever!
the whole NOLA scene is awesome, it's almost blues but heavy as fuck
This song helps me cope and feel out my failed suicide attempts. Helps make the days easier.
Don't take that journey please. You will only travel half way to the spirit world and be stuck on your journey. We all go through difficulties but when the time comes the great spirit "ask what do you with the gift of life I have given you" how would you respond? Would you say "I wasted my time and took my life" life has many great opportunities and challenges. The great spirit only puts these obstacles in your way to make you learn lessons. When your life is complete you will be able to answer fully by not saying you took your own life. It's like if someone gives you an amazing gift but you only turn around and throw it in the garbage. How would that make the other person feel after they took the time to think of you and look out for you.
Dude this is like pantera and zakk wylde at the same time^¬^
Pepper Keenan can play some great licks
Close Pantera & Corrosion of Conformity
I'm no fan of Phil as a person but, goddamn it, this song is amazing.

Why wasn't this song used in sons of anarchy?

listened to this for the first time a few days ago and it instantly gave me SOA vibes
He probably didn’t know this one sadly

Mainstream producers of big TV shows are generally out of touch with the good shit. It's the same reason why a hack like Billie Eilish is given the James Bond theme song over bands like Ulver, Radiohead
Amazing lyrics and Perfect Touch of Sludge Metal
So... I had just started summer break and my parents are both at work. Seeing as how I was alone with just the dogs, I figured "why not try singing along?". My throat fucking hurts now... How the hell does Phil do it?
