Great tutorial! Tip: i always out a lot of vaseline on my positive cast and whipe it off so my clay doesn't move around that much( water works also :))
Hi. Thanx for the video!!! I made a gelatine mask like this but its pretty heavy - half a liter of gelatin. But im having trouble glueing it to the face. I tried the same gelatine, which works good but dries up in just 10 seconds and its hard to work with. i HEARD PRO-Aide is the way to go, but can't get it here in bolivia. So I tried MASTIX from kryolan - which didn't work either. it only glued to the face and not to the mask. Do you know any alternatives to pro-aide?
flashmavi Definitely Pros-Aide, but spirit gum works really well too. Just keep in mind you have to buy a remover too. If you are wearing the mask for a coupla hours I say Spirit Gum, but for longer Pros-Aide.
with gelatine it really helps adhesion if you first spray the inside of the prosthetic with a make up sealor such as krylon fixer spray or ben nye final seal. prosaide should be fine then
How long will the finished product last and is it reusable? I made gelatin cubes with 2 packets and 2/3 cup water and it started breaking down after 24 hours.
Hey, you have to make sure to heat up the gelatin before you use it or put it to the side to use it another day and you also need to add glycerin. Make sure to check out the "How to make SFX Gelatin" tutorial we made th-cam.com/video/qYA8jm8jyXo/w-d-xo.html . The product you see in this video is still sitting on our desk right at this moment and looks exactly the same way as on the day we made it. Good Luck and don't stop trying! You can ask if you got any more questions. :D
Question. Is the gelatin-based prosthetic liquid more or less prone to tearing than liquid latex? I want to create webbing for my fingers. I was gonna use latex, but if my one friend is at the con, she's horribly allergic to it. :/
If I just wanted to make something look flat, and un-textured with a gelatin prosthetic, could I just put it on a flat surface, wait for it to dry, then peel it off?
ik u used water in the bowl so idk if that helped any but if u store ur clay in a large gabage bag with water in it or in a bowl in the same bag itll keep it moist and leave no need for the water bowl at ur work station but over all amazing talent
Hey, check out the " How to make SFX Gelatin " tutorial th-cam.com/video/qYA8jm8jyXo/w-d-xo.html . There we explain how to make it. And there is nothing special we used to turn the mold blue. It is just the plaster which is blue.
Hi there. Do you know how to make a prosthetic with cheap materials, but a hard one, instead of soft and gelatinous. I'm thinking of some kind of hard protuberance. Many thanks!
Yes, actually you can, we did it to. The only thing is that when the liquid latex dries it shrinks a bit so it could be that your not able to wear it properly.
Is the original positive face cast to build on generic? or one made of your face so it fits better? if so, is there a video showing how to make the original cast for my face, thanks
Hi, no its a custom face cast. We have a tutorial called "How to cast a nose" th-cam.com/video/9UNCPaVdJFk/w-d-xo.html you can watch this and apply it to your whole face.
Is it possible to reuse this prosthetic more than once if you're careful in removing it? I was also looking at latex prosthetics and they seem to tear extremely easily.
do u think it will turn out well if i used play doh and maybe like a mask they used on Halloween thats solid colors like blue, white, red, if you know what i mean
Hey, sorry i don't really know what you mean. :D But if you mean if you could sculpt with play doh and than cast the play doh sculpt, I would say you could try it but you'll probably won't get an as detailed sculpt. But if you got nothing to lose just give it a try. :D
SpecialFx Nerds i meant sculpting with play doh and i tried it. you were right. it didn't come out as detailed and some residue from play doh was in the inside of it
OK! yeah thats what I thought. But at least you tried it and know better now. :D Use oil based clay than you'll most likely get your wanted result. Check the description of the video! There you'll find an amazon link to the clay you could use.
Dingdongdiddlydick Thin washes of pax paint. It's just pros-aide mixed with some acrylic paint. You thin it down with some water and paint washes to get 80% of the painting done. The rest should be done after application so you can adjust and blend into your skin tones.
Hey specialfx nerds! Random question over here if you ever read me ( I love your stuff). I graduated in a costume design program at a renown school in montreal for its design program, and I've been looking to do work like this, as it is quite fascinating to me.. now, i've tried researching where I could work for a company that does what you do.. for the life of me, I can't find anything! Is there anything that I could use for my research? Thanks for your answer if ever you do!
Hey thank you first of all, appreciate it. Have you ever done SpecialFX Make up or something like it? I know there are a lot of great schools teaching it. I for my part am no professional in any kinda way. Im doing it for fun and trying to find and show cheap and easy ways to replicate things they do in the professional world. Didn´t do any videos the last few ... for a while now since they are a lot of work and I´m pretty busy with work etc.. But back to you if you intend to do it professionally I would recommend you'd do a course or school where u have the material to do such things and where they show you how to do it. Those classes can be very pricey though. But the thing that is very important about these classes is not just what you learn but the connections you get out of it. So there is one class/school/workshop which is really good its the cinema makeup school www.cinemamakeup.com ... but like I said its very pricey.... If there are any companies which are doing these things which you actually asked for ... I honestly don't really know but I would recommend .... you love watching movies ?? I guess so.... so watch the credits of your favorite movies if they have a lot of special effects in them for example "the lord of the rings" and look for the name of the "Lead MakeUp Artist", "SpecialFX Artist" or something like that, write it down and google it. Check out what they did and where they worked. Maybe that will help you a bit. :) Greetz !
how'd you learn how to mess with prosthetics and stuff? I'm currently in makeup school and didn't know if there was like classes or something for SFX :)
Hey sorry for the late answer. To be honest... learning by doing !!! Keep watching videos and experiment. There is an awesome show on syfy called "Face Off" amazing show fun to watch and you can learn something. There are some schools which teach such stuff but those schools are often very expensive. Just research a bit maybe you'll find a 2 or 3 day course where you can learn something like that. We will hopefully bring out a new video soon which you might like :). Good luck for your further journey...
amazing job but i noticed u end up doing more work cause of ur clay being so dry and brittle idk if that was the idea but i think u could cut some of ur work time with a more wet clay
Muy buen vídeo , te ganastes un like sos lo máximo , pero ayúdame dime cómo se llama esa masa que vos usas en el moldeo xfa ayúdame gracias x tu atención.!l
so you didnt make the gelatin for the prosthetic? also im only 2:48 min long into the video how long does this store for, if you are making it ahead of time for halloween?
Sharni’s Makeup Artistry & Beauty buy some aliginate. You can make a life cast using it and it's relatively cheap. Also plaster gauze for the shell of the mother mold and some plaster of Paris. All in all I was out 30 bucks with mine. You'll also need a friend to help.
if you put cling wrap over the clay and draw on wrinkles then it makes them more realistic
Great tutorial!
Tip: i always out a lot of vaseline on my positive cast and whipe it off so my clay doesn't move around that much( water works also :))
This is a perfect tutorial for me to make a Phantom of the Opera face prosthetic.
Thanks for making a great tutorial! The technics are terrific.
I like that intro…. “Hi guys today we’re gonna sculp again
THE FACE CAST IS NOW VOLDEMORT
Great tutorial! The noseless face cast actually looks really cool. Could be aged/textured and used as a prop or something.
I love the music. Makes it much nicer to watch! :)
This was very helpful! Thanks for sharing :)
I love it you are soo chill and optimistic!
Excelente, es muy realista, saludos desde Perú amigo.

Verry helpful thnx for sharing 😇
Dude plz make mor video ommmmmm this is awesome!!!!
Amazing !
Very interesting video!
ah, that sucks that your face cast broke. You could have just used some powder or olive oil in place of release spray :(
PAM spray!, also blocks of clay on the sides to give you pry points.
We all learn
.
Loveeee love your channel
Are you going to do a video on how to apply the prosthetic?
Also great job!
Very cool!!!
That is so interesting! I need to make these for some of the transformations I do.
nice work! can't wait to see more!
a tip for wrinkles.. draw them over top of a a plastic sandwich bag itll make smoother lines and they wont be as deep
He literally does that
Fantastic tutorial, thank you!

flashmavi Definitely Pros-Aide, but spirit gum works really well too. Just keep in mind you have to buy a remover too. If you are wearing the mask for a coupla hours I say Spirit Gum, but for longer Pros-Aide.

AHA. THANX!!! i will try that
for plaster to plaster separation use washing up liquid 50.50 % water tip from dental lab technician

great video! Thanks!
Thats a good idea thanks! Next time :)
Hello,what is liquid ?
If I just wanted to make something look flat, and un-textured with a gelatin prosthetic, could I just put it on a flat surface, wait for it to dry, then peel it off?
Yeah for like wounds
Could you use builders CLEAR SILICONE instead of the gelatin ? Brilliant job 👍😆👍
wow awesome video! did you also make the face cast? do you have a video showing how you made it? thank you for this!
we have a tutorial called "How to cast a nose." th-cam.com/video/9UNCPaVdJFk/w-d-xo.html you can watch this and just apply it to your whole face.
Use plaster bandages into your face. But firt vaselina then wait for it to dry.Remove And u have it
hey! love the video. I was wondering, with the face cast can you re-use them? thanks
Yes you can.
thanks for this tutorial you are absolutely correct you the artist has to like what you sculpt
ik u used water in the bowl so idk if that helped any but if u store ur clay in a large gabage bag with water in it or in a bowl in the same bag itll keep it moist and leave no need for the water bowl at ur work station but over all amazing talent

Hey, check out the " How to make SFX Gelatin " tutorial th-cam.com/video/qYA8jm8jyXo/w-d-xo.html . There we explain how to make it. And there is nothing special we used to turn the mold blue. It is just the plaster which is blue.
his red sleeves remind me of the childrens artattack tv show
are you from italy or did they show that abroad too?
great job!!
What is your face cast made of? Do you have a video on how you made it?
Hi there. Do you know how to make a prosthetic with cheap materials, but a hard one, instead of soft and gelatinous. I'm thinking of some kind of hard protuberance.
Many thanks!
How do you make the gelatine edges thinner ??
Vaseline makes a good mold release as well
This was awesome subbing 🤓
can yo do the same thing but use liquid latex instead of gelatin
Yes, actually you can, we did it to. The only thing is that when the liquid latex dries it shrinks a bit so it could be that your not able to wear it properly.

Love your videos!! Where do you get the face?
good video, just wanted to ask how did you create your face caste? Is there a video?
check out this video th-cam.com/video/9UNCPaVdJFk/w-d-xo.html and ally it to your whole face.

Kool but why didn't you do the hole face the mouth and chin are missing.
Question why can't you put the gylentin right on the scult why do you need the plaster just saying ..and can you if you have no plaster
Is it possible to reuse this prosthetic more than once if you're careful in removing it? I was also looking at latex prosthetics and they seem to tear extremely easily.
If you are careful with it you could probably reuse it, yes.
nice tutorial video thanks
Showww😍😍😍😍

SpecialFx Nerds lol, it was a cool learning experience. ill definitely use the oil base clay next time.
Amazing
once its done, how do you best attach the gelatine mask to the face ? with more gelatine?
would you mind giving me the list of the materials used in this tutorial?
In the description
What kinda clay do you need to use for when making face sculptures any kind of clay or a specific kind
I would use oil based clay
Que material es el color violeta? Alginato? Escayola ? Gracias
I love it i love u
Would love to see it on an actual person. I wonder how you stick it to someone's face, how does it hold???
Amazing.
Hello! Nice video! The blue paster you used can be any other plaster? (white, paris plaster...) Thank's !
The blue color has nothing to do with the abilities of the plaster :D its just normal plaster so I guess... yes u can
Nice thanks
Is there any way that you can prepaint this product before application? and what paints would i use?
Dingdongdiddlydick Thin washes of pax paint. It's just pros-aide mixed with some acrylic paint. You thin it down with some water and paint washes to get 80% of the painting done. The rest should be done after application so you can adjust and blend into your skin tones.
What is the "Release spray" you make reference to? The one that is used on the cast so that the plaster doesn't stick to the base cast.

so you didnt make the gelatin for the prosthetic? also im only 2:48 min long into the video how long does this store for, if you are making it ahead of time for halloween?
Thanks sir for this
Can you use foundation to add color to the gelatin?
Are you using the gelatin but calling it clay? If so. How did you make it?
No they are using clay they have a video on how to make the gelatin go watch that
thanks for the encouragement through the video
Can you realises a video to explain how to do the face cast? pleeeease
How long do these gelatin prosthetics hold their shape
Neat!!!
what plaster do you use and why can I buy some?
How long does sfx sfx gelatin stay good? Like does it ever rot?
Nah don't think so
If you can’t get a lifecast of yourself where could you get one from - australia
Thank you
Can u do a video on how to make a face cast? Or does anyone have a good video on this? Thank you.
John Mirabile ellimacs has a good tutorial on it
I miss your videos 🥺
and that my friends is why you use a release agent
Do you have a video of your face cast process?
hey, how much time the gelatin takes to get dry?
depends on how you mix it together but round about 5-15 min. ( you can also put it into the fridge)
What do you use to soften the clay? Naphtha?
is the clay reusable after you cast the gelatin?
Yes
Hi
I have a little question: What dou you need for the Form in (8:25) It looks like alginat
is that right ??
+Dream Maker Hi, sorry for the late answer. You could use alginate but we used plaster. This way you can redo your prosthetic over and over again.
SpecialFx Nerds okay thanks
What types of clay did you use?? Was that oil based clay??
can you also use a normal face mask instead of a face cast???
I have never tried it but you can give it a shot. Might not be as stable as a real fase cast out of plaster.
Any special kind of clay you have to use?
+Alyssa Lee No, nothing special. I would just make sure that it does not dry to fast.
What about the clay that kidds use to mold? Is that okay to use?
How do you make the face mold though?
What do you use the tooth brush for?
to create some skin like texture
