LEGO Bionicle | Pomelo Retro

On the island of Mata Nui, the evil Makuta rules and times are dark.
The residents of the island, the Tohunga, have put their faith in a legend that says that six heroes will come to restore peace. One day, six canisters drift ashore containing six mighty figures. The legendary Toa have arrived on Mata Nui.
To defeat Makuta the Toa must find the Great Masks of Power. On their quest to rid the island of Makuta's evil shadow, the Toa must overcome many dangerous challenges.

Another tibit about Bionicle was that, when it was introduced, while unbelievable now, LEGO was on the verge of bankruptcy. Star Wars was keeping it afloat, but with things like licensing fees, wasn't good in the long run. Bionicle was the theme that gave Lego back its legs and let them know that a theme that has story behind it is sellable.

You're right, I'd forgotten about that. And Bionicle was off the back of two fairly unsuccessful Technic toys that preceeded it.

The Bionicle movies are one of my guilty pleasures. I never got Lego's when I was younger but my parents bought me 1 bionics set after months of begging and when I found out about the wider universe they had created I became obsessed with it 😂

What did you mean by Bionicle was Lego's first Toyline? The Throwbots were a few years before the Bionicle sets

Not the first toy line - it was the first to be fully story-backed, with a deep lore. One that was their own and not pulled from a wider franchise like Star Wars or Batman.
Roboriders tried it, and Slizer did a little bit - but it was short-lived and unfinished. However, they went all out with its replacement- Bionicle.

I couldn’t stand Bionicle as a kid, because I saw no reason for them to branch out. But now I appreciate it for being Lego’s first foray into TV and film. Would we have a Lego Movie without Bionicle? Maybe. Is their studio behind the Lego Movies? Minimally at most since they’re from Warner Animation Group for a reason. But this clearly did something
