That looks like a good, high performance house. I see zip, lots of flashing, mounting blocks..very nice. I love that you kept the level of quality going. You never want to disrespect the work of the people before or after you!
Back in the day, there was a cement shake siding with asbestos in it made by Gold Bond. It came with a whopping 5-year warranty. I installed this junk on four ( too many ) homes. You had to be very careful or it would crack when you nailed it. We used a shear cutter that also trimmed cuts around elec boxes, windows, etc. If you weren't careful it could break off. Each pc was 36"x12", 5 bdls per sq. Each job was figured for 10% -15% waste. Couldn't be helped. Makes me sick.
@@sidingschool It sure was, I was glad when it was outlawed. That's when aluminum siding was still popular and vinyl siding was starting to make better gains in quality, styles, and colors to choose from. Today we need something new different and affordable. I know some subs that won't touch cement siding because it's too involved and can't make piecework, I agree. More immigrants are being hired, taught the trade, and doing some nice work.
@@ozziestrom9793 They certainly have a hard time finding good subcontractors around here to install fiber cement. I'm one of the few who will give it a go. I agree though, we need economic choices that are simple and easy to install and will last... It's only a matter of time before something takes away vinyl's long lived reign.

Absolutely! This builder does top notch work! 😊
Man, i loved the video. All 8 hours of it. Good info. No, seriously, you are a good teacher.
Thanks! I’m going to add bookmarks soon. Eventually I’ll do a shortened video. 👍🏼
do you rabbet a cut or channel under your window trim? or just run it flush to thr trim and caulk it?
I’ve been running flush and caulking them… rabbeting them out isn’t a bad idea though!

That’s a lot of waste and it doesn’t sound like a fun product to work with!

one solution for painting those ends would be a ketchup or mustard bottle.
That would be worth a try probably! I’m sure there’s better options than what they supply us with.
