I used to love walking out to Gate 2 Street and eating the most delicious meal down the road..Yaki Sobe... plus having great social military friendly clubs to hang out at.
I was there from 81-83. They’ve totally Americanised it since then. There were tons of bars, but very few had English names. There were also a lot of audio stores there too. Every brand had their own store. Pioneer, Sony, Akia, JVC, etc. I’d probably be disappointed to go there now. On the second side of the street you were on was a place called The Paris Steam Bath. It was amazing what you got for 15 bucks.
I was there in '74 when the Japanese were taking back control of the island from us Americans. Armed Forces police took care of trouble for the most part unless you crossed paths with the Japanese Police 3 man walking patrols. Gate 2 street was fairly empty when we Marines got paid and took in the strip clubs on both Gate 2 and BC Street. Much has changed in these 50 years.
There's the military I remember , where's gate 2 , my favorite town was outside Kadena , I think It was called Koza , not really sure it's been 51 years ago .
I was there in 71-72. Spent most of my time on BC street. Found a niche in hustling pool there and made some cool friends. Gate 2 street was more Air Force guys.
Was stationed at Schwab in 1992. Used to go here every now and then. Looks nothing like when I was there. I don’t see any Filipina hustlers. My main haunt was Kinville at Hansen, but I saw a video of that recently and even that isn’t the same anymore. I don’t think I would have any fun if I was stationed there now.
It used to be considerably busier... 1970... returned from Vietnam. Had the occasional fight, but it was broke up quickly so the MP's ..and JP's didn't get there. Lots of local ladies to invite you in for a drink. But I look at this and I see either a lot of civilian dependants or civilians who just live there now... otherwise the standards for civilian attire has gone away. You would not have made it out of the gate looking like they do here. That's sad really. Okinawa was a great place. But military standards were very strict. In uniform and out. Especially since you had a mammasuan in every barracks who washed and ironed everything. The barbers were the best and so good you got a haircut once a week. If you weren't in the field, you were in the gym and or running. And in between you were in the ville. This was sad to watch.
Western culture turned degenerate around the mind 1960s and continued to be more and more degenerate. What you see in Japan is simply western culture being expressed in the far more developed culture of the east. Western culture used to be great.

Thanks, youngblood. It's been 18 years since I've seen gate 2 street, and not much has changed... lol. I used to bounce at a spot down there while I served and miss Oki dearly.
Yeah I love Philippines. I wish I was vlogging before I left there. I can only imagined what Gate 2 looked like back then. There’s a Japanese side I may film that later and release it. Please stay tuned and keep up with the suggestions!
This is right outside of Gate 2 Kadena US Air Force Base. Remember the US has a HUGE military presence on Okinawa. A lot of US Air Force, US Marines, US Navy and some US Army personnel and married spouses are in this video. I was a Marine stationed on Okinawa back in 1995 and we would spend a lot of time on Gate 2 Street and BC Street in Koza. If I remember correctly a lot of the businesses accepted US dollars 😅
Damn it looks so boring now. I was there in 2010 and was way more popping than this. Where are all the hot chicks walking around? Why are there so many old people and civilians?
I was there from 72-74. Gate 2, BC (Bring Cash) street was way different back then. Anyone remember MA1A alley?

I was there 1987 in the BC.street Mickey club.a lot of memories in Okinawa Japan.
It’s truth that it has changed a lot.. early late 2000’s was awesome!
This brings back memories I was stationed there in 75/76. Looks like payday night on Okinawa
I was there in 96 on Foster. Gate 2 was one of my favorite areas and I did slip over to Whisper Alley. 😁

55 years ago it was so different, but at the same time, it's kind of the same. Better back in the day.
I was ther in 72.
@@frequentflyer56 agreed , it was the place to be .
Thank you for this video! I miss Okinawa so bad!! The videos I have watched it helped me a lot to bring this beautiful place memories back.. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!

Man I miss Gate 2!
It looks like all US servicemen and only a handful of Japanese. Crazy. No wonder the natives chafe.
There’s another side where’s there is mostly Japanese. Video coming soon
Never would have thought Okinaw was so ghetto. My dad was there in the service years ago cant imagine it was like this.

Gate 2 actually hasn't changed that much since the 90s. Some of the same clubs. I've heard BC street is dead though, as is Kinville up by Camp Hansen.

You should definitely come take a trip back out here. Way more developed now
Why is it so diverse? Is it a military town?
Wow bro, big changes from what that place looked like in the 80s and 90s. It looks like angeles city Philippines now
Yeah I love Philippines. I wish I was vlogging before I left there. I can only imagined what Gate 2 looked like back then. There’s a Japanese side I may film that later and release it. Please stay tuned and keep up with the suggestions!
