The northeast is super hot most of the time, so meat goes bad fast. So before freezers were common they salted the meat and putted in the sun to last longer. So people grew common to make everything with dried meat and meat will always come well done too because they couldn't be sure if the meat were fresh or not in the past.

@@JetLagWarriors You welcome :) My mom is from Piauí, a lot of food from there is quite dry and salty, and also fry too(stuff that can last a long time without a refrigerator), specially if is far from the ocean. Near the ocean you will see more seafood and fish. Is all quite heavy but you guys will need the extra calories because of the heat, raining season is almost over and then is just pure heat. You can even (for real)fry eggs on the floor there somedays of the year depending on the city. Drink a lot of water and abuse the sunblock haha. Good luck, is a beautiful area. I have been to almost all the famous places in Brazil and I would say that the most beautiful natural beaches are in the northeast. And if you can, go to Jericoacoara - CE, is a tiny beach town that is famous for being in the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world in a bunch of worldwide famous ranks.

@@JetLagWarriors the best carne de sol is served with manteiga do sertão (liquid butter that comes in a bottle so you put on the meat). Rio Grande do Norte has some of the best carne de sol restaurants. You guys should try the paçoca de carne de sol which is made with cassava flour, onions, butter and coriander. By the way, you guys can still find churrasco in the Northeast, just need to go to the specialized houses. Churrasco is loved and savored in all Brazil.

I second the recommendations for visiting the Lençoís Maranhenses, with the caveat that it's not the best time of year to do so. But your experience with the suddenly unpaved road - and the speed bumps! - reminded me of the time I visited them in July 2014. On the way back from the Lençoís to the state capital, São Luis, we encountered a massive traffic jam, due to a collision a mile or two ahead. A bunch of drivers ahead of us decided to leave the road and drive on the dirt track on the other side of the nearby rail line. We followed suit, and our rented Ford Fiesta got seriously bumped around and covered in red dirt. When we finally got close to the city, we went to a gas station to fill up the rental. I asked a lady who worked there if they had a car wash. "No, but we can wash your car by hand." "Ok, how much will that cost?" "Nothing." "Nothing, really?" "Well... maybe you can tip us so we can enjoy a few cold ones later on," she said with a wink.

I remember first finding out about you guys on your third video here in Brazil, in my hometown Sao Paulo. Ever since then I've been following both of you all around - in and out of Brazil. When I found out you were coming back I was so happy! And it has been a true joy watching you on this second part of your time here. I reckon yous being doing a way of traveling that I'd do as well: slow and steady, figuring things out as you go - and it clearly has worked out.
You both already know so much about our country culture, language and quirks that I've found myself outright smiling through most of this video. It's crazy the kind of empathy you can develop watching strangers that have no idea about you, hahaha
Definitely the Sunday lives help so much! Ever since I started watching (most of) them I truly got another sense of appreciation for the channel, so much so that I became a member for the first time here in YT.
Some observations about this specific video:
    - First, what a beautiful place. I've never been there and now I wanna.
    - The whole ordeal of ending up in the wrong spot for the ferry (Google Maps ain't the most reliable option in country-side Brazil) and then managing to get (and comprehend) the info and getting in it just in the nick of time was quite fun to watch. Thanks Ivana for getting that on record! And Steve, as someone who has traveled the world quite a bit like you, I agree that these moments are among the best there is. Sometimes people think 'adventures' are something grand and wild, when in reality you can find adventure in the most tiny and uncanny places.
    - I've mentioned already but wow you guys are rocking on your Portuguese. It's pretty nice seeing you trying to and figuring out things and words you come across.
    - You both seem so much more relaxed in terms of security, as well. I know you are still paying attention to your surroundings at all times (as you should, sadly), but it's nice to feel the confidence.
    - Steve, you really want to break thru with the Carne de Sol thing, huh? hahahah. Personally I'm not a big fan either.
Whenever you're back in Sao Paulo I'd absolutely would love to take you anywhere you'd like!
    Cheers MUITO BOM

Nordeste is really the best place to choose to make trips like this. You can travel between States easily, there are a lot of quiet places with few buildings and stuff, mainly just small houses and a lot of beaches to stay. I'm from Brazil myself, but I had never gone to Nordeste before, then I did a trip with my father back in 2019. I traveled the world before, but the trip to Nordeste was really high in my list, because we usually don't realize what we (Brazilians) have on our own country, since we just look for the other countries from Europe and such, so to know that we have such a great place so close to us...is amazing!

And yeah, Carne do Sol is very popular in the Northeast, but not everyone does it the same way and there are variations in quality. There is such thing as a tender Carne do Sol! 🤤

It is good to check the way on Google maps before the trip, because some times the GPS send you to a sand road when there is a better way just because it is the shortest way. Nice trip, good luck.

16:10 carne de sol is waaaay more typical in northeast than churrasco, unfortunately (for Steve because I LOVE carne de sol), he has to get used to it. I live in São Paulo and if I could I'd eat carne de sol every week, but it's not easy to find it here =/

"Adiante que ela tá lá". Meaning: 'Corre senão vc perde a balsa'. Meaning: 'Hurry up or you will miss the balsa'. Haha I'm Brazilian and that was the first time that I heard that message that way. I love the people from Northeast. They are very friendly. And all the time saying 'pronto', which is like 'ok', or 'that's it'. Here we would say 'isso' or 'é isso aí'.

Another great vids guys! Steve, ask for "manteiga de garrafa" to make your carne de sol better its like melted butter in a bottle! I would say in this region seadfood is the best way to go. Sometimes is good to ask to the waiter what is the suggestion of the day.
