      I don’t want to be mean but: lol you have not been on TH-cam long have you? Go and see what ppl do with their travel channels...no shade to Thomas but this is amateurish at best in comparison.

    I went to Katmandu in 2001 in my early 20's as part of a round the world trip. I remember walking out of the airport doors scared as I've never been to a place like it. After three days I fell in love with Katmandu and Nepal and even now when I think about the place I have a smile on my face.

    Thomas: Neeh, there is nothing to photograph here.

    Nepal has sure changed since I was there - I can't believe how large Namche Bazaar and the other towns in the Khumbu region have grown. Back then, the Lukla airstrip was just a grassy field full of boulders...

    Thomas, you are one of the first landscape photograph influencers I have subscribed on TH-cam and you just made my day with this video and increase my urge to visit nepal and do EBC and annapurna trek. I am also a trekker and travel cinematographer and vlogger, my love for mountains is immense that I can't stay long in plains long. I always want to go mountains and experience the nature, the people the drama over there. I would like to share my photographs and videos with you once. I know you are super busy with your stuff but it will be great to share my thought and work with like minded people. Thank you, love from India

  • @ianslingsby682

    I think you’re being a bit harsh about the area around Namche. You might not have got that killer landscape shot but the area has so much potential. The people are fascinating to photograph from the little kids running around to the porters carrying the massive loads on the trails and the people in traditional Tibetan dress. If you happen to be there when the market is on that is also rich pickings. The Buddhist influence on the area with the Monasteries, Stupas, prayer wheels and Mani stones are also great photographic subjects. I don’t know if you went up to the Tenzing Norgay Memorial area but you have great views from there of the trail you take. You get Everest and Lhotse and Ama Dablam with Tengboche in the mid distance, watching the sunrise light up Everest and then the other peaks from there is magical and the long lens landscape photography is great. You also get the views over Namche to the snow covered peaks in the west. Sorry I just love Nepal and wouldn’t want anyone to think it didn’t have photographic potential. Looking forward to the rest of the videos. All the best Ian.

      @sushantbhandari7948 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agreed. There are so many things to capture around that area. And his timing of the visit is not that right as well. Himalayas are usually hazy during monsoon and late winter. Late September to Early November is the best time to visit the Himalayas. Hoping to see much more on the rest of the Everest videos. All the best.

    I think you had a bit to high expectations. There is loads to work with if you just forget the fact that you are among the grandest landscapes in the world. It is so big and beautiful that it is actually getting hard to capture it and focus on the small details that exist everywhere like small streams, weird pines and bamboo forests... Awsome video as always....

For example; I was just about to return my recently bought 135mm 1.8 because I couldn't find that big of a use for it, too long, way to expensive and I could have more use o a wide angle lens etc, BUT! then I watched your video about throwing away the wide... and I started shooting with the 135 the way you recommended and wow! I'm loving it! It's soo much more fun this way. So, Thank you! Best new years wishes from Sweden :D

    A nice treat for US people on Christmas day. Thanks for the video. At 17:58 you mentioned using F/9. I've been shooting landscapes with my X-T2 for 2 years. F/5.6 is generally Fuji's sweetspot for most of their lenses. I know you don't like to be technical, but if you're shooting landscapes, especially large vistas with no real subject within the first 10-20 feet, then F/5.6. Of course, you may of had to use F/9 for a slower shutter speed, (artistic choice). Not sure.

    Thomas, I knocked my iPad by mistake & off went my email. I was there only for a few days in early Dec. 1978. Enjoyed watching the sunrise & sunset from the roof of St. Xavier’ College. Kathmandu looks rather more developed now. Headaches not unusual there. I thought you were going to tell us how monkeys pinched fruit from out of your hand; they do it quite skilfully. I look forward to seeing more of your adventure.
