Cos all that off grid talk was fake. Jake was always using high power,expensive advanced technology tools of all sorts. And considering it was dark,gloomy and raining most of the time no way was he charging it all up from a solar panel on the roof.
It is so beautiful to see couples building their life and being so generative together, working on projects of all kinds. I am 50 and that has not been part of my life experience yet in this lifetime. It leaves a longing, a homesickness for something I've not expeienced and it is lovely to be able to watch the process as others progress on their journeys.

Cool dado grove in the logs. I did the same thing for my GF's super shed. Leaves more log showing than a flat/framing. You need a wood is good mallet tho;)

I think you’ve made the best choice. Your place would fall apart without you there, and they seem super capable. And respectful as well. Many blessings to you and all of your endeavors. I know that the decisions that you make are for the highest good for your dear family!
Curious as to how 'off grid' the old place is....very well established roads and power lines? I thought it was only accessible by boat, but perhaps not? Do they have power there now?
There is actually a village not far away,just through the trees,it's got proper houses and a church,don't know about a shop. J + N used to go across the lake in their boat,one of those rubber zodiac ones to shop in the town. The village is so near that a little girl used to visit sometimes,only a ten minute walk I think to play in the veg garden and pick flowers with Nicole. It's not remote at all.The trees are secondary growth as this area was logged out many years before and now has regrown.
good luck with that, its always a crap shoot with getting someone else to look after your place. Dont know why you would want to go to the tropics from the PNW though. I lived in Hawaii for 7 years but its awful crowded compared to the PNW, and hot!!

I think you guys got great people to keep you place alive!! Its so stunning there and it would be a shame if there were no people to keep the gardens growing and the yurt warm. This is so good! But I would be building a cozy shelter in the container. I suppose it's good for dry work now but it's so nice.
I am a little confused. Are the German couple getting paid for all their hard work? And why are they not doing this for themselves instead of caretaking for you. It is obvious they want to live the lifestyle, and they are super amazing, I just don't understand the dynamics of it all... Can anyone help me understand? I have so much hope and adoration for them and wish I would have taken a similar lifestyle back in the 80's and 90's. My kids and I camped outdoors in the mountains for a whole summer when they were 5 and 3. It was the best summer of my life, and my girls remember it fondly. I can still feel and smell the memories, and there is nothing better than being one with nature and the sky. We all learned so much about ourselves and what we are capable of doing. Sound and video was great for me. Using an H.P. laptop running Windows 11 and my browser is Firefox. I like watching the combination of both residences, and having them there will save you much work to bring it back around when you get back. Letting a place sit for several years, even with someone watching out for it can still be disastrous. But having them living there will make all the difference in the world.

Very similar to virgin nature. Very beautiful. In Finland, the first 2 days are only above 20 degrees Celsius, and usually it’s cold here.
