    This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries batery.repair and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!

    So it spins, but what about the torque? Definitely going to try this, though I'm not sure what the process that is happening is with the cycling of power. Possibly the power on function is causing a surge in the battery shorting out the dreaded dendrites?

    With nicads, if a cell has gone down, you can achieve exactly the same result by 'zapping' it with a 12v car charger - BUT, the capacity will be down, and it will soon die again. If you try it with NimH, all you will do is make a dreadful mess. And don't even THINK about trying it with Li-po's, you'll have a major fire on your bench that you cannot put out. The fire doesn't last long, but it burns like a magnesium flare!

    May be it will work, when turning on and off like that if there is an inductor in the charger it is not good for the charger, any way a manual variable dc power supply can fix the problem of the battery by manually charged it, and discharge it with an incandescent bulb. Nobody mentioned here the quality of the NICD and NIMH batteries where made in china without any quality control. Years ago NIcd batteries were in good quality.

    I just did this today. My battery had to have been dead for no less than 10 years. I no longer have the charger for it and it's a 9.6 volt battery. So instead I used a small 12 volt wall plug power adapter. And trusted a different video saying that the center of the plug is positive and the outer of the plug to be negative since they are not marked. So I connected the negative to the battery with a rubber band to hold it in place then tapped the positive to the positive of the battery repeatedly for 2 or 3 minutes then left both connected for about 20 minutes. Running out of patience I tried the battery in my cordless rebar tier ( very expensive device ) sure enough it turned on but was very sluggish so I connected it back up to the 12 volt power adapter for a little over an hour (didn't want to overcharge it to 12!) and tried it again and it worked great! Very helpful information thank you so much!!

    I just buy a set of new batteries that are inside the battery pack and rebuild it, most times I can buy the more powerful batteries and turn my 2ah battery into a 4 or 6AH battery for only a fraction of the cost of a new Battery or kit. and it lasts longer than the original batteries, only takes a soldering iron and a few minutes.
    Batteries come postage free and very quickly, you can rebuild any battery pack for less than a quarter to eighth of the price of new ones depending on the quality of the new batteries you buy, they rip us off worse than criminals as they can buy their batteries at wholesale, I have to pay retail, I don't mind people making a profit but there comes a point :)

    Evidently the startup pulse that the charger puts out at start up was high enough to burn out the dendrites that short the anode and cathode. This method is quite hard on the charger, so I would suggest zapping the cells with a variable power supply, or a capacitive discharge.

    Ni-CD batteries are known for the long term memory effect. This is due to an incorrect practice of recharging. The old NI_CD battery needs to be flat dead before recharging,if you recharge the battery when it's,ie,50% charge,the next time you use it basically has lost the remaining 50% autonomy. An old trick we used, working with old 12v ni-cd Makitas, was to use the bundle offered torc lamp as a discharger for batteries, so, when we called the day, we put on the case the torc light up letting it discharge the battery overnight, the next day the flat battery goes on the charger for a 100% clicle . Now if the pulsing charge is able to shock some juice out of an apparently dead battery, it's very difficult it can "erase" the memory effect. Memory effect is a degenerative situation,in fact ,at any given new charge, the battery lives even less and you recharge it...again so the 50% becomes 40% and the next time 35% till the battery actually maintain a proper charge for no more than a couple minutes...

    • @joanneb9705
      @joanneb9705 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I knew this 20 years ago. Simply loosing power to the charger or plugging in the battery at the wrong time was always a problem; I am wondering if the new lithium batteries work by detecting total charge or battery memory; since so many people charge their lithium batteries at half charge.

    • @3dvorator
      @3dvorator 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joanneb9705 each single cell in a lipo battery or Li -ion Fe has a terminal connected to a control board which is constantly monitoring level of charge keeping balanced each cell. The same board goes into a storage level of charge when a given amount of days have passed since the last full charge. These kind of batteries need to be stored at 50% of charge not fully charged.Also lithium battery can’t be fully discharged cuz this can destroy the battery, vs the old NiCd batteries that needed to be fully discharged to avoid the memory effect

Its a 7.5V 1500mAh Battery and I am charging with 1.25Amp(12V DC) that means it should charge up to full in about an 1hour and a half, but my main issue is that it does not hold charge.... Voltage drop is not significant when it is full its about 7.9V and when its totally drained it is 6.9V. Do you know any method to solve this issue as well?

    common problems with nicad batteries is over time it tends to grow whiskers inside and it cause to short out only way to burn out those whiskers is zap the battery with a special circuit ive seen one in electronics magazine i cant find that info its the safe one with a one sec push button for that it has to have a voltage bit higher than it for example a 18 v needs about 20-24 v of burst

    Sorry Stephen but i've tried that one before because there's already a few you tube videos out there that recommend the same thing. Yes you can get some charge back into an otherwise dead battery by doing this, but it won't hold charge for very long under any sort of load and you'll end up throwing it away anyway. I wouldn't recommend it as a sure fix to others.

    Tried this on my Makita 14.4v battery. As my charger lights are different, I had to modify the procedure. Turn charger on light is solid green (charged) goes to solid red (charging) stays red for 70 seconds then flashes green red (bad battery). So I turned it on and turned off as soon as it went to solid red. Repeated this multiple times (approx. 1 min). 1 battery seems to be good and runs my drill at full speed for 30+ minutes. The other battery runs the drill slower on full speed setting. I'm still trying more things such as full drain before recharging and charging again after full charge is indicated.

    Awesome tip, i don’t have that many tools, but should my batteries die i will certainly give that a go. Out of interest, do you think the same could work for a dead car/motorbike battery? #coinringgiveaway

    It worked! I now have three battery packs. this matters because the hand saw sucks power. :)

    I have a 19.2 volt Craftsman drill that I got used for $5 at this consignment store. I got a charger for it because it had a battery in it. But when I plug the charger in and put the battery on it nothing happens No light no nothing. I don't have an extra battery for it and I don't want one. I was wondering if you knew knew of a way that I could fix it. I did what you did in the video but nothing happened. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks😁.

Can you flick as fast as the FETS inside the charger. what is this a dare or an poor taste joke at the expense of the watchers.. ?

The Problem is Its impossible, you know it, I know it and any Electrical engineers will agree. This is bloody amazing i've just try on one of my 10 year old batteries 24v ni-cd from a screwdriver/drill it went from 10.33v max charge to 25v right after the 1min flicking on/off, hats off, thank you so much :)

    At first, the "charging" light would occasionally flicker as I continued flipping the on/off switch on the power strip. As soon as the "charging" light fully illuminated (approximately 2 minutes), I left the power strip on -- and after an hour or so, the battery pack fully charged. Thank you so much for posting this information!!! I'm delighted to be using my sabre saw, again.
