  • Good morning! Today I'm going to show a thorough flip through of Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This is my favourite curriculum for teaching my kids how to read, as a homeschooling mom. I'll show exactly how I use the book, what I do and don't do, and give my review.

    Hi everyone! My name is Julie, and I'm a mama to FIVE! My kids are 10, 9, 7, 5, and 2. I post videos every Monday that are either mommy tips, favourites, homeschool curriculum reviews, birth/postpartum tips, hauls, or some other kind of 'mommy' video! Wednesdays are grocery hauls, full days of food, or what I eat in a day. I also post large family vlogs on Fridays. Thank you for checking out my channel, and I hope you subscribe so you can keep up on my videos! I love to keep in contact with those who watch my videos to find out what's going on in your life, so please comment below. I always read your comments! :)

    Taking my 2.5 year old through these & it has been a blessing. We are on lesson 8 and we do one typically everyday from Mon - Saturday but since the lessons have gotten longer I typically split them in half & restart the second half of the lesson with the sounds review. My daughter loves it & is progressing rapidly!

    I homeschooled 6 children and used this book for each of them. I found another great book to help them learn to sit for the lessons and also to build the skills needed to begin reading. It’s called Getting Ready to Read by Julie Shaffer. It works hand in hand with this book.

      Do you mean Jo Fitzpatrick? I have searched for Getting Ready to Read by Julie Shaffer and find nothing. However there is a phonics book by Jo Fitzpatrick of the same title. Thank you!

    The key is for the parent to read fast. Get familiar with the pattern and then do it fluidly. I also wrote the letter or word on the whiteboard instead of in the book with my last child. She's the only one who finished the entire book! I still drag my finger under the word.

    I just started with my 4 year old. Shes on lesson 30 in Reading Eggs right now, so the beginning steps in this book are very quick and easy for her. She can slowly read the first bob books. We are at step 7 so far in teach your child to read book. This review is very helpful. Weve been pretty thorough and yes it is repetitive but i figured do as they say and she will be successful! Im hoping she will be reading pretty good before age 5 which is 8 months away so plenty of time to reach that goal!

    Thank you so much for this because I did so many curriculums and now that I watch your video this is so helpful because in my mind I thought they had a read by five and my daughter is five and she wants to read. She tells me she wants to read and we read ton of read alouds and I read aloud to her and we have the bob books. We have Pete the cat books, learning dynamics set off Amazon, we did all about reading, ordinary teacher guide reading, abeka, sonlight .. like I thought it was the curriculum that wasn’t working, and then we have this, and it’s so much easier tbh but she still struggles with blending the sounds to make a word. And we have ton of books that’s on her level And we do a lot of rhyming books poem books and I got this and the same scenario as your situation is, she did very well with each individual letter sound but when it came to making a three letter word like Sam or mat she had no clue how to sound that out and put it together and it was frustrating and Now that I watched your video I’m just gonna continue to read to her and just go back to it. Thank you so much for this

    Hello, I have a 12 year old whom can't get the sounds to work together when he reads. Sounding out is almost impossible for him. Do you think this would be a good option to go back and teach him the sounds? He knows the sounds of each letter its when they are combined with others vowles and letters that he can't decipher the proper sound.

    • @canyonprincess
      @canyonprincess ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a year later so might not be relevant anymore, but the book "Reading Reflex" has been super helpful for decoding odd letter combinations for my kids. It presents the English language as a written representation of sounds. Some symbols or combinations of symbols can represent more than one sound, and some sounds can be represented by more than one symbol/combination. The book starts with the most common ones and goes through all 100-something possible combinations. When decoding a word, you try out possible sounds that the symbols could represent until you recognize it as a word you've heard before. It's really neat how it breaks language down into a linguistic-inspired system. The company even has a remedial reading program designed for teens, with teen-themed content so it meets them where they're st.
