  • Hi, I'm Paul Browning!
If you don't follow me on Instagram, you might not know me.
I'm a Sony Alpha photographer from Surrey in England and travel ( mostly ) around Europe photographing wildlife and nature, following the seasons and migrating patterns of the amazing wildlife we share this planet with.
This is my first vlog video of my 2024, made from my winter visit to Spain to film and photograph the raptors and vultures that come up from Africa in the late winter / early spring.
I've finally invested in making a home studio to produce, host and present my content online and have self educated myself in producing long form content, all the equipment and software needed for you to all enjoy not only my photos and videos, but to enjoy getting to know me and my adventures.
As well as the VLOG series, I'll be creating fun fact / documentary style videos about the wildlife and nature I photograph, I'll also be sharing editing tips and tutorials, plus I'll be going LIVE on Instagram, TikTok and here on TH-cam.
I'd love you to support me, and I'd also love your feedback on my first video of this style.. so please let me know in the comments how it looks, sounds and flowed for your enjoyment!
In this first VLOG I dive into the heart of Spain's natural beauty.
I went this year to Spain, with two birds on my bucket list and needed the help of an expert, which is where I found Steve at www.birdingins...
We spoke for nearly 6 months planning this 4 day trip into the Pyrenees mountains, because I was in search of the mighty Goshawk and the Bearded Vulture this year ( everything else would be a bonus! ) .
Oh boy! Did he deliver!! :)

Great video of some amazing birds. Vultures are misunderstood by so many people!

people see them as just a scavenger but they rid the air of the smell of death, they help stop the spread of diseases and when at rest their core temperature gets too low for many viruses to live including rabies.

Thanks! Yeah they’re amazing birds, unbelievable to see a 3 metre wingspan bird of prey .. it’s like seeing a dinosaur!

Lovely photos and footage. Spain is so scenic. Especially enjoyed the Bearded Vulture shots. I hope to return to Spain soon for birding.

Really amazing footage you captured, Paul, and so well put together. What a treat!
Are the vultures being fed by the rangers? And how about the raptors in the first sequence, Red Kite & Co.?

Hi! Thanks for watching. The raptors in the first part come to a watering hole to drink and preen. There’s small bird feeders to bring in small birds as an attraction but the place was over run with rabbits that the farmers kill using minks to flush them out ( which is why they gather there mostly )
The vultures up on the mountains do get the culled animals or carcasses of the sick and injured animals within the conservation area , which is usually deer and boars which they have to keep the numbers at a level .
It’s not a case of killing animals just to bring the vultures in, it’s a government environmental agency so it’s a bit more like managing the ecosystem of it all- which I found fascinating. The rangers on the green trucks in the clip we met on the way up were the ‘hunters’ and they would pass over any culled animals to the ranger who took me up and was in charge or the vultures area. I was gutted I didn’t see a golden eagle or Egyptian vulture when I was there. I was about 2 weeks too early apparently.

@@paulbrowning.photography Thanks so much for getting back to me. And super interesting. I had head of other national parks doing their big mammal management in a similar way and using the carcasses in turn to feed wildlife; as it is designed by nature after all. It's ironic that humans started "cleaning up" dead animals from the countryside when the vultures are (would be, if they were allowed to...) doing such a great job. If I am not mistaken, it is illegal in Europe to leave a dead cow/sheep/goat/etc. out on the fields... oh well...
And don't feel bad about missing the Goldens. The Griffons, Bearded & Black Vultures sure seem to have made up for it, not to mention the Goshawks. Plus, there's always another time... ;-)

You’re welcome dude! I’m new to TH-cam so it’s nice to get some interaction, I spend most of my time answering comments on instagram! .. yeah you’re right .. there’s always next time. You can’t predict wildlife!
