Being materialistic complicates your happiness 3. He is never insecure about himself no matter how he looks 4. No matter what shit happens to him, being mixed up with thugs, having his carpet pissed on, or getting in a car crash, he always just tries to go back to that zone of tranquility. Sure he gets stressed but he never really let it get the better of him
This is one of the reasons why this movie has such a big following. People are jealous of this character and how he lives. There's a lot to learn from him. But people would categorize him as a loser. Because that's easier than changing yourself right? Path of the least resistance. But that makes everyone thinking like that a loser themselves, ironically. But since the majority is brainwashed, grinding work hard, consuming products left and right, throwing away stuff that's still functional... It's pathetic. The dude abides and uses his trashed up car until it's really in flames. That's durability right there if I've ever seen one. Sure you can say he doesn't have the money to buy a new one but it's a better lifestyle than all these motherfuckers like us do. The Coen Brothers really wrote their masterpiece here and I love all their movies. Great directors and writers, equally great actors, cinematographers etc.

In particular, the scene where Lawrence character is speeding through traffic, and he yells out over his speaker, “Move your busted ass vehicle!...” Look it up!! It’s definitely The Dude’s ride. A 1973 Ford Gran Torino. The exact same vehicle used in this film. Same paint scheme. Exact same markings. Bumps and bruises. Could be The Dude driving! Getting hassled yet again by The Man!!
