Yes, he gave Houston's smooth head a little massage. But it wasn't hard contact and I think maybe that's why it wasn't called. But I could certainly see how that bristle of his head could still affect the shot, that's your equilibrium right there, but Allan found a way to make it go in even if it wasn't the most conventional shot.

Even though San Antonio won their first title against my Knicks on my graduation night on June 25, 1999, I was proud we went this far and were never even suppose to be anywhere near the Finals. The first and only 8th seed to make it all the way to the Finals. Sadly, we have NOT been the same since. Especially with James Dolan in power. I miss these days! The NBA and defense and foul calling by referees now are a JOKE! Littlest thing and you get a foul called.
An injured Ewing outplayed Alonzo Mourning the whole series. What a warrior he was in 99. Every Knicks fan was heartbroken when he got hurt in the ECF. I don't think the Knicks would have beat the Spurs with him, but it would have been more than a five game series. Jordan's beneficial officiating kept four of the greatest players ever from winning a championship. (Ewing, Stockton, Malone and Barkley)
Would've been great to at least see the Knicks play the Spurs with Ewing. Of course when you're talking Duncan and Robinson, Ewing woul'dve made a huge difference. I just remember LJ D'ing up Duncan. That was a tough match up. Another regret, especially after watching the Last Dance. The 96' squad was the best Knicks team of that era, had the tough D still, with the offensive fire power... unfortunately derailed by the Miami coming off the bench fight.

I came back to look at this because I remember this as maybe the most tense, sphincter-tightening basketball broadcast I have ever watched. Just looking at the last two minutes of play, between the ominous tone of the announcers and the crowd noise of the Heat fans, this just felt so much bigger than a first round series has any right to feel. It felt to me like playing in Miami Arena against this Heat team that played them so evenly, against their former coach, a younger, stronger counterpart to Ewing, a dangerous trash talking point guard who could make a shot from anywhere on the court at any time, and a 2-guard in Majerle who could do likewise, with the black and red court aesthetics and the hoop flame at half court, it's like the Knicks were trying to win in a boiling cauldron. Or Hell.

Like usual, the refs have influence on all calls and decisions in a game. Deep down the NBA wanted the Heat to win that game.

Obviously they hated each other but I wouldn’t call it as bad a rivalry as people think. The Knicks dominated them. They met 4 straight years with the Knicks winning the last 3 series. And if it wasn’t for the Knicks whole team getting suspended in 97 the Knicks easily win that series as well
