I'm a 75 year old Living room Warrior and a Wes Montgomery style wanna-be. I have a Boss ME-70 but mostly I use a Behringer Analog Echo pedal and a Boss CE-3 Compressor pedal. I also use a Behringer TO-800 soft distortion pedal to sort of emulate the low level natural distortion of those guys playing clean through old tube amps in the 50's & 60's. For a Living Room gig, the stuff provides a rather luscious sound. I've been playing since 1960 and I've used the last 10 years to try to correct all my technique problems & improve harmony studies.
I started out using stompboxes. But, for the last 20 years have used multi-effects. I’m currently using the Helix with two stomp boxes in the chain. ( Boss SY-1 Synthesizer and The Electro Harmonics Ravish Sitar) I like using the multi effects pedalboards because I like having an array of colors and sounds to choose from.
On my board currently - I have a couple drives (Wampler Tumnus, Mesa Flux Drive currently), Phase 90, MXR Uni Vibe, TC Spark Booster, MXR Carbon Copy and a Wah pedal. Drives come and go...so does modulation. Depends on the songs I am playing at the time. This iteration works very well with my Marshall JVM410H. Rock tones for days!!!!!!!!!
Would love a video talking more specifically about why and when you choose the amps and effects you use for R&B and how you set them to achieve certain tones. Love the content
I Had a Boss ME-50. I liked it at first, but found that it limited what tones I could get. So, I gravitated toward pedals. Now, I have an illness where I continually switch pedals in and out of my board. It is such a fun illness, however. Collecting pedals is fun!
Hey Kerry it's Pat Romero I have a ME 80 I love it it's perfect I had a Boss GT 100 but I sold it to much trouble with it on stage the ME 80 is perfect for R&B and I play Latin Rock I use the Metal distortion setting you have a good day ☮️ Peace.
I really appreciate this channel. Been, subscribed for a while and I don't even own a guitar. That intro song alone has inspired me to pick one up soon. Thanks in advance Broski.
Great video! When I first started to play guitar I used multi-effects processors like Digitech RP 200, Korg AX1500G and Line6 Pod Pro Rackmount. Great effect processors! Then I moved up to pedals. I have two Pedaltrain JRs size pedalboards: one that I use for church and the other one I used for practicing at home.
This is what I'm talking about the guitar lessons and product reviews and it really opens your channel to unlimited variety Beautiful job you are going straight to the top please share some preset effects templates this was very well done CONGRATULATIONS
ME-80->Roland fa-06->line in on PC. I like to make beats on the keyboard and play guitar leads over em, all going through my computer, with good speakers. It's all for personal fun, only my kids ever hear my music lol.
This is one of the things I've been learning, getting the right sounds & tones that fit certain songs. From playing at church to clubs to wedding shows. Boss GT-100 does it all kinda like the helix, but a little more complicated
I use a few stop boxes. I have tried different ones and sold different ones. I have narrowed my sound down to only compressor, fuzz, phaser, preamp overdrive, delay
Playing since '73 a youngster I been through the small pedals mainly Boss. Since 86' into racks until Boss Gt10. Now I have both the Boss GT1000 and a Headrush.....
Hi Kerry thank you for that. I play in church at a sort of intermediate level 🙄( or maybe lower 😁) friend gave me an all in one very small box , with about fifty effects. I have so far found a couple I like. The sound technicians are just learning themselves , so we got a long way to go😊 we are an Anglican (c&e)🇬🇧. You give me alot of ideas and confidence. You are very humble and seem to know that there are people out there like me that don't know the language.👶🐒🐤😁♥️
I went all in with a Line 6 setup, Helix Floor, PowerCab +, Variax Standard. I’m done for awhile; GAS syndrome maxed out! Will have fun with this setup for a long time though.
i use the full drive 2 wampler paisley deluxe wampler ego compressor wampler tape echo the keeley caverns v2 ans seymour duncan line booster dunlop volume pedal .. love my board and your right it don’t matter what you have if you don’t know how to use it
I love using my pedal board because of certain tones, but its heavy. I also have the helix. I’m still trying to get the helix right thou, I just need a little help understanding presets and stuff.
I like them all 😎. I would love the helix because I have guitar rig 4 at the moment and would love something more standalone.Just switch on and jam. Takes the step out of booting up my laptop getting out my rig floor controller plugging in, up dating drivers at times, getting distracted by notifications by people wanting money (jokes) Love the Analogue set up too but that can be very expensive. I looked on in awe when someone on TH-cam built a board set up for Raphael Saadig, l do love gear though. 😎🙏🏾
I'll add something I'm seeing alot now, especially with the guys in the various CCM groups I play with, are guys using a hybrid setup. Where something like an HX Stomp does their amp and cab sim, in conjunction with their analog board.
I tried that a couple of times. I end up getting buzz from activating the all in one box with analog board. Probably need a power conditioner for that to work. I haven't figure how to make that work.
Solid vid.. let me ask if you had to choose or suggest the first thing to change, when wanting to adjust tone. Do you recommend changing the stock pickups first, or investing in pedals?
I’ve grown up using analog stomp boxes and that’s what I’m use to. I like stomp boxes and pedalboards because it seems easier to adjust your sound....one box at a time. But, I’m thinking about going with a Helix because my pedalboard is getting heavy as I’m getting older and I’m ready to change my sound which means buying new pedals instead of dialing up a new sound. All those buttons at intimidating but I’m going to change up and see how it goes.
Hi there my name is Pat I was reading your comment I am 60 and I just bought a ME 80 there really easy to use and light I bought A Boss GT 100 and it was a pain to learn I suggest you try The ME 80 before you get into a Helix.
Hey Kerry I get some good nuggets from you brah ! I have a ME-80 digital board but I don’t know how to set it up yet ? I want to use it in church n solo musical settings . How do I start with it programming good professional sounds ? Thanks 🙏 I
This is a great video and thank you for reaching out to the guitars yes I love individual pedals but I really would love to have all-in-one pedal but I have a hard time using one I was thinking about buying the Fly rig from Tech 21
Kerry, greetings from Russia, I am a helix user and wondering about great clean and crunch sound for gigging. Could you make an introduction to your helix presets?
Just started purchasing some pedals while I learn. Nothing too drastic and at a good price. Just looking for quality clean cutting sound and a looper of course. Love the pedalboard! Any recommendations or resources for a clean price effective amp? Currently going out of a Marshall MG15CFX..Always seems like the FX are even after I’ve dialed everything back. Much Appreciated as well as the content!!!
What are the best pedals/effects to use to get that acid r&b / Neo-soul sound for beginners? I am a beginner and really want to capture that smooth reverb sound
Hey Kerry I use a Headrush board. Im still learning how to use it but I feel it's the most affordable option for me. Do u ever use rotary speaker effect and if so how do you dial it in?
You should model sounds off of other guitarists' sounds that you like and tweak it to your liking it. It's all about imitating and then make it your own...also knowing each kind of effects in what it does and what it produces----structure from compression/clean to overdrives/distortions to your reverbs/delays and then your modulation effects like chorus/flangers/phrasers..so on. Need to stack it like that. It's like painting but in the auditory sense
Don't know what sound you are going for. Awhile back I heard a band and the guitarist was using a Zoom multi FX and it was freaking incredible. Talking with the guy during a break he said it was simple and he ran a fuzz tone [ don't remember if it was a fuzz fave or a Big Muff ] --> compressor --> Twin Reverb amp --> board.
Anyone looking into multi-effects, please read.#1 IGNORE the presets that come with it your multi-effects unit whether its the helix or axe rx or a used 30 dollar zoom pedal. The presets on all these units are garbage. You have to program and fine tune your own presets. #2 multi-effects are just as good if not better than pedals. A Boss multi-effects pedal has all the same stuff as their individual boxes. Its the same stuff in different packaging. I only recommend, for what it's worth, using individual stomp boxes if your sound doesn't require more than 3 effects. If your playing in a genre thar requires you playing a clean tone most of the time like old school country, r&b or funk, just get a strat guitar, an old peavey bandit amp, a compressor pedal, a delay pedal and MAYBE an overdrive. Its all you need. Individual pedals get real noisey if you plug in 4 or more. If you want/need more than 3 or 4 effects just get a multi effects unit and a big ass solid state amp. Its all youll ever need.
The Bandits get overlooked a lot because, the are solid state. These are seriously nice amps for the money and are versatile. Those of you that use em know what I'm talking about.
I purchased a ME-80 for church functions it’s sitting in the box I need a little help setting it up ? Can you refer me to someone I’m in Grand Rapids ,Michigan my name is Eric (Big E)
The best way to learn is just think of it as stomp boxes and you can get Google it on u tube they have free videos say you are on your distortion dial it in a find a delay that you like don't be afraid you are not going to mess anything up so anyway fist dial in your distortion then your delay then press wright a light will blink then press the pedal on the Left then press wright again and then say you want a clean sound with alittle chorus so dial in your chorus then press wright till it blinks then press the the 2 pedal then press wright and that's how you save your settings it's easy just dig in to it good luck.
I’m not gonna lie. Multi effects does scary me. The stomp effects I use, do get used. Always wanted to go into the multi effects because the church I’m at want to use less amps. Right now when I play, I use a simple am di box but it doesn’t carry the tone I want much unless I’m there two hours before
fuck the pedals. it's only "practice" make your own sound, not the pedal. pay more attention to your playing, espacially "rythm" "chords" "melody", that's the MUSIC pedals are just the spice btw, i love my KEMPER :)
What effects do you use? How's it working for you? Post below. Thanks!
I use the Boss ME 80 and Bias FX2. I also have a small pedalboard. What effects do you mostly use the Line 6 M5 for?
Boss ME-80 works really well. Want to upgrade to the Helix.
I'm a 75 year old Living room Warrior and a Wes Montgomery style wanna-be. I have a Boss ME-70 but mostly I use a Behringer Analog Echo pedal and a Boss CE-3 Compressor pedal. Bro you should make a video explaining how you set up your helix patches for a live gig that would help a lot, by the way love your videos👍🏼
Would love a video talking more specifically about why and when you choose the amps and effects you use for R&B and how you set them to achieve certain tones. Love the content
Came to write the same - would like a deeper explanation of the way you use each pedal or setting - particular interest in the main board
I Had a Boss ME-50. I liked it at first, but found that it limited what tones I could get. So, I gravitated toward pedals. Now, I have an illness where I continually switch pedals in and out of my board. It is such a fun illness, however. Collecting pedals is fun!
wizaxed haha gotcha
Def should drop some of your patches for the ME-80
I agree whatever you are comfortable with and gets the job done. Props for the D&M Drive!
Hey Kerry it's Pat Romero I have a ME 80 I love it it's perfect I had a Boss GT 100 but I sold it to much trouble with it on stage the ME 80 is perfect for R&B and I play Latin Rock I use the Metal distortion setting you have a good day ☮️ Peace.
boss me-80 is a beast
Can you share your Helix Patch? Great Video!!
I’m sold on that Boss me 80. Just ordered one.
Good advice Kerry I got the ME 80 for church gigs

I have really been thinking about that boss me 80. Thanks for the info.
Mr Kerry, can you make a video entailing how you set up the effects on Me80?
This is one of the things I've been learning, getting the right sounds & tones that fit certain songs. From playing at church to clubs to wedding shows. Boss GT-100 does it all kinda like the helix, but a little more complicated
Z Dawg same here....I achieve all I need with the gt100
I use a few stop boxes. I have tried different ones and sold different ones. I have narrowed my sound down to only compressor, fuzz, phaser, preamp overdrive, delay
Kerry 2smooth Marshall can you do a patch tutorial for the helix? Trying to dial in the amp close to a real amp as possible
I use a ME 70 or pedal board. Can't afford Helix, Kemper on a budget (bills come first) But Tone is Everything in my opinion. J.S. ☮️ Peace Brother
Playing since '73 a youngster I been through the small pedals mainly Boss. Since 86' into racks until Boss Gt10. Now I have both the Boss GT1000 and a Headrush.....
I have the ME 80 also, great board for the price
Hi Kerry thank you for that. I play in church at a sort of intermediate level 🙄( or maybe lower 😁) friend gave me an all in one very small box , with about fifty effects. I'm rockin' the old school Digitech RP200... lol
thanks for this video :) so much more helpful, r&b doesn't have many videos so this was very helpful
For funky sounds I like Boss Cp1x compressor, Phase 90 script, and Dunlop Wah. And my secret weapon is the DigiTech Dirty Robot - just for fun 🌴
That boss me-80 is nice. Can you do some instructional video on the settings you like?
I went all in with a Line 6 setup, Helix Floor, PowerCab +, Variax Standard. I’m done for awhile; GAS syndrome maxed out! Will have fun with this setup for a long time though.
I use stomp boxes but also LOVe my M9! it is still the best
All in one pedals I have a Boss G1 can't justify upgrading right now but it gets the job done thanks great info and advice as usual God bless.
King Brown good deal.
I use pedals because I like to be able to switch them out to get very specific sounds. Also multi effects are harder for me to use in a live setting
Your stomp box pedal board is the most dependable and can fine tune in a blink. Line 6 have to double check all the time
i use the full drive 2 wampler paisley deluxe wampler ego compressor wampler tape echo the keeley caverns v2 ans seymour duncan line booster dunlop volume pedal .. love my board and your right it don’t matter what you have if you don’t know how to use it
Love Boss multi pedals, I’ve been using my Boss ME-50 for almost 20 years!
Might be old (me-80)but it is so well thought out it really shows.
I have a Digitech rp300r and it makes me feel like a rockstar.
I love using my pedal board because of certain tones, but its heavy. I also have the helix. I’m still trying to get the helix right thou, I just need a little help understanding presets and stuff.
I use all Boss Pedals, Ernie Volume Pedal, and a CryBaby Wah. Im gonna get Boss ME80 one of these days!!!!
The one thing I learned is that if your multieffects gives out all your sounds gives out with you but its super convenient.
I would love to try out one of your Helix presets!
I like them all 😎.
I would love the helix because I have guitar rig 4 at the moment and would love something more standalone.Just switch on and jam. Nathan Kim Yeah I haven't actually tried it myself, I just run a multi-fx into a tube amp and call it a day lol
Thank you for sharing. Can you do a review on a ZoomG1Xon
Immensely helpful kind sir!
Sir Timothy Larry you’re welcome

Hello, kerry do u use the 1200 petal it not the 1200.
Hey Kerry I use a Headrush board. Im still learning how to use it but I feel it's the most affordable option for me. Do u ever use rotary speaker effect and if so how do you dial it in?
Hey Send out your presets and settings! Did you download any new presets into the boss?
Do u have any patches suggestions for the boss me 80
Is that a TC Electronics Flashback delay and looper you got there?
i got the m5 and the dunlop volume ans wouldn’t mind having the aria
Quick production thought... move as far away from the black background that you can.
What envelope filter u use?
What is the song in the background?
What is that background music
Do you have helix line 6 patches that we could download?
I Struggle finding a good lead sound for church do you have any ideas . I the Hx effects line 6 thanks

Darryl Rogers the problematic tones may be solved by using a cab simulator, or an IR box......unless the di picks the sound from your amplifier
Victor Edem Setordjie it’s like an ir box but it’s has limited adjustments
Darryl Rogers ok. Look into the “moor radar”..... you’ll understand what I mean
Victor Edem Setordjie yeah that got more of the range I’m looking at.
Boss GT 10
You to get headrush also
for practice I only need an amp with a reverb and a Ditto looper :)
NeusserJung cool
I have the Line 6 HD500x
Taylor dope
I have boss ME 80 ( I got it last year used) but the input stopped working 2 weeks ago. What can I do?
Femi Brooks idk, sent it to boss maybe....🤷🏾♂️
@@Kerry2smooth that will cost more than the pedal if am sending it from 🇳🇬 . thanks for your time 😊
@@Kerry2smooth hey Kerry!! I tried the factory reset, it worked!!!😁😁
Haircut clean bo
lmao @ yall tryna steal Kerry's patches
fuck the pedals.
it's only "practice" make your own sound, not the pedal.
