How do I use the RA setting circles in a manual mode. I don't see it moving with the mount.

Have you had any problems aligning this mount. I have tried to align using the polar alignment scope i purchased but it feels as though the more I adjust the knobs, I feel as though it doesn't have any room to go any further. Also, I feel as though I'm looking under a car to be able to see through the polar scope.

Hi Adrian. I actually don't have or use the polar scope. I just eyeball it and then use the polar drift align tool in PHD2. It takes about 10 minutes, but is very effective. Also, make sure the mount head isn't cranked down too tight to the tripod, causing too much tension to easily turn the knobs.

Hi Adrian - I use Sharpcap Pro for alignment - I have no experience with PHD2 but I bet it is similar. I have had alignment success by moving the entire tripod in one axis (lateral) and using the knobs in the up and down one. You can approximate by knowing your local latitude. Sorry I am pretty new to this so I don't know all the terms.

Thanks for the review. Now that you've had the mount for some time, how is it holding up? I'm comparing this against the Celestron AVX mount. I grew up with Meade, looking to upgrade my current setup but a little concerned with their whole bankruptcy/lawsuit thing going on. My biggest worry is DOA or issues down the line and no warranty support. Thanks!

I’m in the same situation as you. It’s either the AVX or the LX85, still not sure though haha

@@Jam_66 @chrisorah - Still holding up well. I have it dialed in and I'm usually guiding with an RMS of about .5-.7 arc seconds and shooting 10min subs with no issues.

When you say you don’t use a guide scope - you use USB for auto guiding - What does that mean? How do you do that? Seems like a way to save some money?

Hello. I use a guide scope. I just don't use the ST4 port on the mount for guiding. I go direct to the PC via USB for the guide camera.

Hi Dean, I believe he is referring to this cable which plugs into the hand controller from the PC ( usb connection) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087CYBS3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Which is also what I use

Hey what was your setup in PHD2 for mount selection? I'm using the Mac version of PHD2 can't see an ASCOM selection. thanks in advance!

Hey, I'm sorry I'm not very familiar with OSX for astro stuff. I know some run everything off a Mac, but most end up buying a cheap windows machine just for mount control and data acquisition due to software and driver availability, and then use the Mac for all of the processing.

Thanks for the video. I am seriously considering this mount with the 70mm quad astrograph. It will be my first foray into astrophotography. What do you use for your polar alignment routine? Do you have the Meade serial to usb cable? I am wondering if a 3rd party cable would work.

Hey no problem. I'll have a full review soon. One update, I found that the "quirk" of the initial sleep was related to a bad USB hub I was using.
I use the Polar Drift Alignment routine built into PHD2. You have to be close to start, but it's very accurate. If you're just starting out, I'd recommend the polar scope.
I have the old-style RS232 to USB adapter with the Meade 505 cable. It has worked for 15 years! I would go Meade specific on the cable tho.
The 70mm is a great scope. I just went with the 80mm and flattener/reducer for a little more light gathering and similar field of view. The price is essentially the same when you add the flattener.

I am at the limit of my budget, so I will be using a Canon T3i that I have had for many years. The AstroBackyard review of the 70mm specifically used the T3i, and it seemed like a good match. I am going to start unguided, but that will be my next upgrade. I think I will have to get the polar scope.

@@AviationAstro I have the LX85 and Quadruplet - I use Sharpcap Pro for polar alignment - Works pretty well. I am still struggling with tracking though.

Can this mount use the QHY Polmaster?

Looks like it uses the same adapter as the CGEM and EQ6 according to Agena Astro - QHY Part Number 020024 - agenaastro.com/qhy-pole-master-adapter-celestron-cgem-mount.html
