I know why Freeman was unaffected by the Mind Control. Cray had that Psionic power that completely nullifies hostile Psionics like Mind Control, Stasis, Mind Spin, and Mind Scorch. That and Freeman is literally god.
Ok so 1) are you really surprised that freeman, Gordon crowbar wielding gravity gun vaporising freeman, is immune to mind control? 2) your speech in the ending cutscenes was perfect, someone make an edit where that's actually in the game. 3) excellent series, looking forward to war of the chosen 😄

Well that was great, and hope War of the Chosen goes just as well. I think that Cliff hanger with the crack under the ocean is implying Terror of the Deep is next though i have a feeling that things are going to be a bit different this time around.

I know this is three years late, but I absolutely loved the part where you edited in your own voice and reacted to Bradford over the radio. So immersive! It's one of the best things about youtube playthroughs; a unique adventure for each series and a unique Commander with his own opinions and perspective on everything. Matthew Ketchen I swear that voice pack is sentient and it picks the most fitting lines for every moment. And that song is called "Shaken", its in the TH-cam Music Library in the creator's tab.
Freeman was immune because the avatar has Solace(?) which is an aoe immunity passive that protects them and everything near them from psionics, they’re 100% immune to mind control, panic, etc but not damage iirc, similar ability is Fortress(might be “fortitude”) that grants the psion immunity to all ground hazards, like burning ground or acid (like the andromedon leaves)
4:56 Interesting thing to note: Before Seth shut everyone up, the second Ethereal here encourages the Commander to keep fighting. Looks like we had an unknown ally throughout the game.
I'd like to think that when Freeman refused to be controlled, the avatar tried to get into his mind, but the G-Man denied the thing access to his thoughts. "I'm afraid I can't let you do.. that."

I think Freeman was immune to the mind control due him having the untouchable ability. It makes it so that if you kill an enemy the next attack against you misses. This also applies to mind controls, it happened to me with the avatar that spawns after skulljacking the codex.
Amazing ending, was bad ass and love every bit of it, I can not wait for war of the chosen, keep up the amazing work ( sadly my pc kinda had a brake down, getting it fixed, no news on mods and I will have to wait to play the war of the chosen,)

This was a great finale! A splendid mix of comedy and epicness. But the ailiens really seemed like pushovers at the final battle. You beat them without a problem. Psionics... Obliterater of difficulty!
So.. Seth. It has ended. *AND WHAT AN ENDING* Starting out by playing your own theme is quite possibly the perfect way to begin the end of the series. I've seen quite a few XCOM playthroughs, and I have yet to see anyone get as in-character as the Commander as you did. It made this episode unique: This is not the XCOM Commander taking to the field, oh no. This is *YOU* , and you owned that role; that speech at the end was b-e-a-utiful, and that is just the tip of the iceberg of what this episode has to offer. Now, as for Freeman shrugging off mind control; you might chalk it up to the Avatar not knowing how the hell to work with his drugged-up mind, or the G-man interfering, but when did the G-man ever directly provide aid to Freeman? No, there really is a far simpler explanation, and she is standing right next to Freeman; Cray. Cray is a trained psionic with the Solace ability, an ability which passively negates any negative mental status effects in a circle around her, the range of which is indicated by a faint purple ring with her as the epicenter. Now 'mind control' is definitely a negative mental status effect and as such Cray gets to give an *avatar* a big psionic middle finger as it tries to control Freeman. So now it's over, but as one thing ends another begins, The Chosen are here. They will test you to the limit and beyond. But we have faith in your abilities, Commander. And remember: *WE WILL BE WATCHING.*

Okay, there's this great moment where an Advent soldier about to get shot in the face turns to look at Freeman, then seems to look directly at the camera right before dying, as if to go "Well f*ck me."
You know how seths keeps joking about the speaker being "not a villain" well I heard a voice line from central in idle avenger chat and he was talking about how "the speaker gave up everything to do what he's doing, I'm just glad he's on our side" or something along those lines and I don't know how to feel about it anymore

I may have accidentally been watching this series while not using an account, but I'd like to say this has been an amazing series. I started watching when Freeman first came in, and I decided to watch the ones before it. Thank you for the amazing series, the XCOM 2 gameplay by itself, accompanied by your commentary has made this one of my most favorite XCOM video series ever. The Avatar fight along with the undertale fight music seemed kind of off for the first second, but ultimately made me feel excited to see the ending of this. That's about as much as I can say, and thanks for this amazing series.
ShadowMaze Honestly this has become one of my favorite series which is also, ironically, one of the hardest ones for me to make. It's gameplay isn't exactly as easy to edit around as Dead Cells and other games, but it's been an interesting challenge to fit this game into my style and I think each video in the series feels significant because it's always such a challenge. Hopefully WotC and any eventual sequels go just as well. I gotta say, I've been following your channel since the first episode, and every single time, you impressed me. I'm extremely glad to see you make it through, and I cannot wait for you to boot up WoTC- I can tell you're going to love the Specters.
That little end scene with the ADVENT troopers makes you forget one thing: the ADVENT mag guns kill whomever uses them if they are not ADVENT. Some SCOM operatives are bound to die to rookie mistakes.
What went on at 12:30 was Gordan Freeman was near Psionic Cray, who I can tell has Solace, which gives anybody and everybody near her immunity to all mental impairments, including the Avatar's Mind Control.
StealthT Yeah I only noticed that during editing. Still, fitting considering Cray has been the thankless support pillar of the group so far, never really standing but always the one making sure the others don't get killed. Or in this case Mentally Hijacked.
Someone needs to make a Sethorven voicepack. The cackle you did when you mind-controlled the archon is straight out of one of the vanilla soundbites. Same for the Gatekeeper. And then Megalovania was such a fantastic choice for the final battle.
You are going to favs after this great battle. Good work,Commander. And i almost could hear a "hadou's theme" from Street Fighter 2 anime in the end against the Elders.

Starting out by playing your own theme is quite possibly the perfect way to begin the end of the series. I've seen quite a few XCOM playthroughs, and I have yet to see anyone get as in-character as the Commander as you did. It made this episode unique: This is not the XCOM Commander taking to the field, oh no. This is *YOU* , and you owned that role; that speech at the end was b-e-a-utiful, and that is just the tip of the iceberg of what this episode has to offer.
Now, as for Freeman shrugging off mind control; you might chalk it up to the Avatar not knowing how the hell to work with his drugged-up mind, or the G-man interfering, but when did the G-man ever directly provide aid to Freeman?
No, there really is a far simpler explanation, and she is standing right next to Freeman; Cray. Cray is a trained psionic with the Solace ability, an ability which passively negates any negative mental status effects in a circle around her, the range of which is indicated by a faint purple ring with her as the epicenter. Now 'mind control' is definitely a negative mental status effect and as such Cray gets to give an *avatar* a big psionic middle finger as it tries to control Freeman.
So now it's over, but as one thing ends another begins, The Chosen are here. They will test you to the limit and beyond. But we have faith in your abilities, Commander.

I may have accidentally been watching this series while not using an account, but I'd like to say this has been an amazing series. I started watching when Freeman first came in, and I decided to watch the ones before it.
Thank you for the amazing series, the XCOM 2 gameplay by itself, accompanied by your commentary has made this one of my most favorite XCOM video series ever.
The Avatar fight along with the undertale fight music seemed kind of off for the first second, but ultimately made me feel excited to see the ending of this. That's about as much as I can say, and thanks for this amazing series.
ShadowMaze Honestly this has become one of my favorite series which is also, ironically, one of the hardest ones for me to make. It's gameplay isn't exactly as easy to edit around as Dead Cells and other games, but it's been an interesting challenge to fit this game into my style and I think each video in the series feels significant because it's always such a challenge.

That little end scene with the ADVENT troopers makes you forget one thing: the ADVENT mag guns kill whomever uses them if they are not ADVENT.

What went on at 12:30 was Gordan Freeman was near Psionic Cray, who I can tell has Solace, which gives anybody and everybody near her immunity to all mental impairments, including the Avatar's Mind Control.
StealthT Yeah I only noticed that during editing. Still, fitting considering Cray has been the thankless support pillar of the group so far, never really standing but always the one making sure the others don't get killed. Or in this case Mentally Hijacked.
Someone needs to make a Sethorven voicepack. The cackle you did when you mind-controlled the archon is straight out of one of the vanilla soundbites. Same for the Gatekeeper.
And then Megalovania was such a fantastic choice for the final battle.
