I always play Mycareer, and the prelude was pretty good. It's definitely a step up from last year, and I can't wait for this game to drop

For everybody that wants that old 2k13 myCareer experience. Just create a player, copy him into a myLeague roster, and use player lock. Now you can imagine any career you want. Ive been doing it since 15.

@@nataliatziaki Create a player in the options menu, make him however you want, put him on any team you want good or bad. If you wanna feel like the first pick or a late pick(or get drafted at all) make the player a 85ovr or a 70 ovr and put him in the next draft class and skip the first season so he gets drafted then go to the options menu when you start myleague and there's an option that says player lock pick the team your made player is on, then pick him as the locked player. You'll only play as him so it's like mycareer but you have control of everything.
If create a player had facescan I would do that every time cause you control everything and can update rosters throughout the season but the facescan is very crucial for me.
Honestly I would prefer if the mycareer just had plenty of realistic options altogether. Being able to choose however many years playing in college, going overseas by choice, being bad enough to be in the D-League, or just have something like Donovan Mitchell's rookie season. It would also help a lot if we were able to import rookie classes, that way we actually have competition that lasts a long time
My vote is for 2k to do what EA sports does with FIFA and Madden now.
Have 2 career modes.
One that is mainly story like with Alex Hunter in FIFA where you play through a story
One that is basic and more barebones career mode where there’s no story and just some fun career gameplay.
This allows those who want story to play it out and those who just wanna have fun and play as themselves and dominate to their enjoyment.

Maybe they should take the EA Fight Night Champion route. In FNC, there were 2 career modes, one called champion mode and the other called legend mode. Champion mode was a career mode that was story driven with cutscenes and all. Legend mode was a career mode that simply wasn't story driven and completely customizable to the users needs. I played legend mode a lot more than champion mode but I also enjoyed champion mode despite not fully finishing it due to the difficulty.

Honestly just miss the old draft combine/summer league/training camp in 2k10 and 11 it was like you said challenging to the point where if you struggled you were sent to the D-League. I Even prefer that endorsement system and press conferences. Once the VC got introduced it became a a cash grab and a cringe and constant reach to show they were up with the current trends. Especially in 18, I honestly preferred live 18s career because it gave me those old feelings kept it simple and was the most fun I had in a career since 2k12

not just that, in 2k11 and 2k10 it was actually exciting to hit a three or make a dunk in the combine/summer league because your player at that time would still be ass.. now i played the prelude and im making everything while having a 3pt shooting at 49 like wtf?

I dont feel the need to skip the cutscenes this year, the story is mildly entertaining which is all I'm asking for. No booboo or lil b fresh to ruin your experience and personnally I didn't cringe this time. I don't think you can expect a single player mode to keep you playing for more than 1 month or 2 which is fine. Like you said, once we get bored with MyCareer we go to the park and that's ok.
The reason is if they're making a new player and they don't want to see the scenes then they can skip it so they could grind

It's simple why you can never get through my career, it's repetitive as hell. My career mode as a whole is not even fun, especially with the micro-transactions that make you not wanna work for the VC and player upgrades.
I started running 2k in 2k11, but my first my career was in 2k12, I got through 5 seasons and it was great. From then on I never played more than a dozen games in any my career after 2k12. It's just not fun, I enjoyed modes like blacktop for my career in 2k13 and the crew version in 2k14, also somewhat enjoyed park in 2k17 but getting through seasons of my career playing with the AI is just far too boring and repetitive at this point.
This guy gets it. I miss the old 2k's they did the career right. I miss the customization from back in 2k11
Xevious vS. Blackmanta yea I get that too and on top of that when you break it down, the game mode is too basic and simple and NO corny story mode or simple adjustment is gonna fix that. You're just playing the CPU year after year and the challenge gets easier and easier each year. For people who've been playing the game for nearly a decade you gotta ask yourself if it's really worth going through seasons of my career 2k after 2k. Definitely lost its touch for me after just one year of grinding the mode out.
At this point all these cheesy stories and what not are for all the new players that 2k hopes to draw in with all its flashiness. For people who have been around and playing for more than a few years, all of this is pointless and a complete waste.

This Prelude is probably the best one that they ever had.
I just stopped playing my career when the story lines were added. It’s not what I’m here for, I’m here to play a basketball game not watch a show that they try to make me believe is up to me but it is obviously pre determined what will happen for all characters. The park and pro-am are ok but it gets to the point where nobody plays proper basketball and decides to always set a screen or always hangs under the basket. Then there are those people that decide that the game is made for them and they should shoot eveytime they get the ball.
As Dom said my career has been easy recently and it seems like I have to play on 5 minute quarters just so I don’t average 60-20-20 with my small forward. Even then I damn near average a 30 point triple double as an 86 overall rookie and lead the lakers to a championship.
The whole undrafted thing is just overplayed, you don’t even play a game and they throw you in all depressed and shit then have to follow their story to get on any roster you choose like it just happens.
Now how does 2k fix this?
My opinion is to start everybody out with a 70 for every stat no matter what position. If you do well in an area you get gifted a higher stat for that area, if you don’t use it you lose it. Then the player is purely yours and very hard to replicate. Do this over college and combine games and drills. Max rating a player can end up with is 80 (and that’s very rare), lowest rating is a 60 (if they are just terrible). Then a team may draft you based on team needs and the assets you provide. For example you earn yourself a 73 overall and you pick to be a power forward. A team like the hornets may decide that they will pick you in the late lottery.
A lot of people love the story like smoove gento STG some other youtubers like tmartn just plays my career and along with casuels gamers and youtubers just play the story . But for 2k19 its a good story and I enjored it but I agree with the difficulty problem but saying lives the one is better is tbh kinda a stretch idk but the one is also good too

I don't know why 2k wants to make a story so bad. It's a NBA career there isn't a way you can make a story to it. We are all achieving one goal and that's to get to the HOF. there's no need for a story.
The choices we get are meaningless. The only real choice we have is what shoe deal we want. After that nothing matters. Not what we say at the press conference or whatever. Nothing serves any relevance.
This is why ive always been against the whole story idea. Because it's just there and serves no point. And it's always THE same like I was saying with the choices there is no customization
zavier Jackson I like the concept of a story, but they never execute them well enough (although this year’s story is slightly interesting). Like you said, the biggest issue with MyCareer stories is that they don’t hold any weight and they don’t matter. There’s rarely any choices to make, which hinders engagement for the gamer, and when there are choices, they don’t affect anything. If 2k wants to make a great story, they need to engage the player with constant decisions that actually affect the story, your player, and MyCareer gameplay. I don’t believe that 2K should scrap stories altogether since it would be a step back, taking the extra spice from Career mode, but they definitely need to give us more control in the storyline.
2k stopped the custom rosters because people used to edit EVERY player to being 5-7 50 overalls so they could easily dominate my career smh

I remember in 2k10 they had come out with what is now the prelude, but it was like a mycareer draft combine where you'd be able to earn extra VC and help your draft stock before you get drafted. Even with that you'd get matched up with john wall and other top 10 draft players and they'd make you sweat. In fact, there was a chance that you'd play so bad that you could've ended up being drafted in the second round or not at all and starting your season in the then D-league. Once you moved up to NBA your spot wasn't secure because if you played bad you could've been sent back down

I've never played basketball games myself and I bought the game a few weeks ago. I played forward for the sixers (playmaking rim protector lmao) and averaged 17 points, 9 assists and 11 rebounds for my rookie season. 16-0 through the playoffs and I'm only yet like, 77 overall. I really liked the presumption of having a real career and a breakthrough with a basketball team that needed a spark but not a bonafide hall of famer performance throughout 98 games loool
You took the words out of my mouth. My career is so unrealistic. I want to have realistic stats that a rookie would have. Every time I’ve played this game mode I end up being the best player in the league before all-star break and this is without VC.

This reminds me about my experience on MyCareer, on the Xbox 360 (yeah, the last gen console). There are very few cut scenes in the story mode (besides the pre-draft interviews, the draft itself, post-game interviews, and talks with the GM) so most of it is either playing or just in the menus. Like you mentioned, you can have the roster loaded before you make the new MC and it will just use that (though I didn't put MJ or other legends in the rosters). As far as difficulty is concerned, it isn't too easy or too hard, but not just right either. I suppose if you were trying it, then your biggest challenge would be the difference in controls (try it, it's hard to adjust right away). Maybe if you reviewed the story mode of the PS3/360 2K games, and how it compares to modern consoles.
Thats why 2k11 was special. The grind was real
Btw the thing where you can put in your own rosters into mycareer is on last gen 2k (I think bc I played 2k16 last gen and it was there and considering it's the same thing every year it's probably still in the game)

I'm under the thought that cringe is an art form. And I feel like the people who write the my career story just try to out cringe themselves. I feel like this year the executives told them they had to take it a little seriously though which is why it wasn't as bad as last year.

I miss the NBA 2k11 MyPlayer mode. The NBA draft combine, the possibility to get to the D League if you sucked, the whole mode revolving around gameplay instead of a stupid storyline, the possibility to choose more than 2 answers in interviews, and no stupid preset name or nickname.

I'm not saying go back to 2k11-13 where it was just games and press conferences, however, I don't like these heavy handed scripted as stories. It's no longer "My Career," It's whoever directs this year's story game. A blend of the old with the new would be best. They could bring back high school and/or college, the draft combine, summer league, G-League, etc. Make sure you're able to sim them if you don't want to wait to get to the league, but your play in the first 3 stages dictates where you're drafted and your affects your overall. You play bad, you can get sent down. Have cutscenes for your college choice, tv interviews, team introduction, free agency pitch meetings, commercial endorsements, etc. Just keep it simple, there are so many possibilities and it would add a whole other level to this mode. If they still wanna do the scripted thing, just have this as a separate mode like Madden and Fifa do.
I miss the days of mycareer on last gen where your character could go talk to the GM about players you’d like them to pick up.
(this is all under the impression that game is actually hard and you do not use VC from outside my career aka your character is 65 ovr)
Here's what I want:
Start - high school
Depending on how you play, you could choose a d1/d2/d3 college. The teamates could also have an effect on the story. (after year 1 you can choose to leave)
At each college, there are branching storylines with decisions that actually matter, unlike the firework decision in the prelude. (Most outcomes should have some negative side effect to your draft stock or even cause you to go undrafted)
If after college you can pick a manager from many managers that have effects on the story depending on their personality/interest (good or bad).
After college, you can go undrafted/ teams don't want you because of your behavior you can go to the g-league or China.
AGAIN DEPENDING ON YOUR PLAY different story trees are gone through depending on where you go and AGAIN depending on your play you could gain NBA interest.
from then on it could be normal 2k, but this would make it spicy.
And not every story needs a love interest.

Honestly it was a great mode that I played until I got a PS4 and 2K19. I love Mycareer by the way, I understand it’s a basketball game and the story doesn’t have to be great but I found it awesome. Unfortunately the story really cuts after the prelude😕
2k should do a hybrid, less cutscenes only for important things, but keep the focus on basketball like 2k11

you should be able to choose the Different Era’s you play in like 60s 70s and all that. You would have to deal with different Rules and really with a different Basketball game from what we have now. You would have to make a different build for every Era like a Post Dominant Player for when theres no 3 point line and just adjust to your Opponents.

I just want branching storyline where if I have a good or bad game things change depending on how I play. When I pick answers to things I want it to change my career maybe I keep talking shit about the management or other players so they trade me randomly or if I'm a superstar I can get my teammates traded and how change my team like Bron lol just making my career feel like it's mine and not some script I have to follow like everybody else. That's what makes my career boring so until they do that it's going to not keep our attention

I wasn't enthusiastic about 2k19 cause I feel like 2k18 burned me out but I enjoyed it for what it was, story included (i did hate that we could not skip the cutscene though.). This story and the gameplay got my attention. I think you are too overly critical on some points but I do think you are spot on with others. Customization of my career would be great. And I 100% agree that we are at a point where I dont thin 2k can stop the story within my career with the standard they have set.

I like the story not 2018, but 2016 with Spike was dope.
The reason why 2k doesn't want us to skip the cutscenes ( or really anything), so it makes the game feel forever, then we don't want to play as much, and thus we buy more VC.
Do you recommend this game for casual players or just for hardcore players? I ask because I have 2k14 but they killed the servers. I loved that game, but now its dead in my game collection and I am FORCED to buy the new games when I was satisfied. Is this something the casual player should be expecting? That one day this game I play from time to time will be actually dead digitally?
In my game i misses 2 FT when my team was only up by 3 with 5 secs left LeBron got the rebound then Deadass made a half Court to send it into OT..... we lose by 14 in OT

In 2k17 on 10 min quarters (for badges) and I averaged 65 points and 25 assists for the whole year as a rookie went 81-1 and the one game we lost I wasn't playing
can yall help me im really strugguling on what game to buy. I played the 2k prelude I didn't like it the gameplay changes just ruined it for me but I loved the live prelude. But I've been on 2k for ages now and only played live 18 when I got bored of it. So should I buy this 2k because I've stuck with 2k and I might like the game when it comes out, it might just be the prelude or do I get live 19 before 2k for once? I will say tho what I've seen live has better haircut selection then 2k live has the lamelo haircut which is lit. So can yall give your opinion and help me choose
JaysonTatumIsLit 0 if you can just get both but if only one get 2k first and see how you like it the first couple of weeks and if you don’t like it just get live and stick with it for the rest of the year that’s how I’ll approach it this year.

What people don’t understand is that mycareer has changed and is more focused on park. You’re supposed to just play the games with little difficulty, so you can upgrade your player, badges, etc. You grind so you can play against the real challenge of park and pro-am. Mycareer isn’t just about winning the nba championship anymore.
I'm played through a whole season last year with my 6'6 slashing shot creater. I carried the bulls to the finals on hall of fame. But we got swept by golden state

Not sure if the game I want to be made would take to long or be to much as far cost but I want a true experience not forced decisions etc. Why can't it be multiple different choices you can make and multiple different backstories and outcomes based upon your decisions and position like maybe really good in HS go d1 and my backstory is completely different than the the guy who was a walk on and underdog but have it in the same game and have the outcome cutscenes and dialogue between players Analyst etc. Be different based off of what is actually happening in he like the anylyst shouldn't speak on me a college walk on like they would if I'm a college phenom

You said it perfectly. That joint is just too easy. I had to make a 6ft PG just to make it difficult for myself in the career (cuz 2k doesn’t respect short players no matter the overall). The downside to that is that I’m handicapped in the park and Pro AM

If u play the Warriors on HOF u will definitely get a challenge. Its easy to be so great in your first MyCareer season bc u can basically be a 90 ovr immediately. Theres not that many 90 ovrs in the NBA so thats why u dominate as a rookie

And creating a legend mode where you can create your own player however you like in the loaded roster
I know it's allowing 2K to cop out of improving the mode, but try playing MyLeague with a created player and player lock on his position. Sim when they're on the bench. It is a much more customizable experience.
2k10 career was ultra hard in Hall of fame
I just create a player add him to a roster and do a myleague with a player lock on for that player so I can customize rosters make trades even add teams edit jerseys and everything it’s so much fun
