That makes no sense for 2K
Most players eventually switch teams, but only 4 happened on a cover year
The rest were injuries or some other misfortune which makes a lot more sense for 2K because as you can see, that's happened almost every year
the Shaq one is sad but the 05 heat should of won the title and wades injuries screwed them out of back to back to back titles..the 07 heat were pretty stale old and beat up and could of won i guess but losing in 05 with a stacked squad made them go all in for 06 ..they got rid of younger players like damon eddie jones keyon dooling and rasual butler for older vets like antoine walker jason williams james posey and gary payton..thats what happens sadly...not to mention michael doleac and the anderson boys ..they were old...same thing losing caron butler and lamar odom for shaq as well as chris mihm

With Ben Wallace's cover curse, the Spurs routed the Pistons in the first 2 games in San Antonio. When the series shifted to Detroit, the Pistons routed the next 2 games as Ben & Rasheed Wallace hounded Duncan into giving his worst finals performance (20-14-2 with 2 blocks, but shooting just 40% from the field.) In game 5, the Spurs led by 2 with 10 seconds remaining. Rasheed Wallace was guarding Robert Horry, but left Horry to double team Man Ginobili. Horry promptly sank the game winning 3 to put the Spurs up 3-2. The Pistons won game 6, but it was too little too late, as game 7 would be in San Antonio. The Pistons lost game 7 and have yet to come close to winning another title since.
Ben performed well in the series (10 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and almost 2 steals per game on 56.9% shooting). But if Rasheed Wallace didn't leave Robert Horry wide open, when he knew a 3 would win the game for the Spurs, the Pistons would have been repeat champions.

I was thinking about this today. 2k had a baseball game since 2005, and the Cover Athlete of MLB 2k11 was Ron Halladay and he died in a plane crash in 2017. Kobe retired in 2016 and was on the Legends cover for 2k17 released September 2016 in the same year. Four years later Kobe and Gianna died in a helicopter crash.

We gotta stop with that AI no talent b/s. Mutombo was an All Star in 2001 and 2002. He was the DPOY when they got to the Finals. Aaron McKie was the 6th Man of the Year in 2001. The Sixers were built the way they were to maximize the way Iverson played. He never did anything with another scorer/star. So Croce and Larry Brown were smart enough to surround him with defense first (and second with a few guys) role players that could help absorb the occasional 8 for 25 game AI would throw up because they kept teams in the 80's a lot.

Westbrook plays just as hard as AI did...is as relentless, and is just as much of a feast or famine defender. So instead of pretending that you're going to get another scorer to supplement him, you need to surround him with plus defenders. That's the only way they're ever gonna make a run without Durant.
