Mohammed Rafi (24 December 1924 - 31 July 1980) was an Indian film playback singer. He is considered one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent. Rafi was notable for his versatility and range of voice; his songs varied from fast peppy numbers to patriotic songs, sad numbers to highly romantic songs, qawwalis to ghazals, and bhajans to classical songs. He was known for his ability to mold his voice to the persona and style of the actor lip-syncing the song on screen in the movie. He received four Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, he was honored with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India. In 2001, Rafi was honored with the "Best Singer of the Millennium" title by Hero Honda and Stardust magazine. In 2013, Rafi was voted for the Greatest Voice in Hindi Cinema in the CNN-IBN's poll.
He recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and sang songs in many Indian languages as well as foreign languages, though primarily in Urdu and Punjabi, over which he had a strong command. He recorded as many as 7,405 songs in many languages. He sang in many Indian languages - Konkani, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Magahi, Maithili, etc. Apart from Indian languages, he also sang songs in many foreign languages, including English, Farsi or Persian, Arabic, Sinhala, Creole, and Dutch.
I am not even the era of Rafi sahab but I miss him so much. I had tears in my eyes after listening to his songs from baiju bawara

Rafi Saab was quite simply the greatest singer who ever lived on Planet Earth and the epitome of what voice is, as he was-is the voice himself!!! The only words which do justice to his personality is that his was and is the Voice of God!!! रफी साहब का बचपनसे फँन हु ,जब हम मनमाडमे छत्रे हायस्कूल मे सन १९७२मे पढते थे हमारे हिंदी के टिचर नेरकरजी पढानेके पहले मुझे राजासाब का " किसी मेहरबाकी नजर ढुंढते है इस महशुर गीतको सुननेके बाद पढाई शुरु करते थे,नोकरीके लिए काफी साल मुंबईमे रहते थे,जिस दिन रफी साहबकी मौत की खबर मिली मै बांद्रा स्थित रफी व्हिला उनके घर अंतिम दर्शन लेने घर पहुचे थे,सांताक्रूझके कब्रस्तानमे रफी साहबके अंतिम यात्रामे भी हम मौजुद थे ,भीड बहुत थी,उनके अंतिम दर्शन के लिए भीडने बादलसे जोरोमे बरसता पानी और कब्रस्तानमे किचडकी परवाह की नही,ट्रकमे फुलोसे लिपटे रफीसाहब, " कर चले हम फिदा जानोतन साथीयो अब तुम्हारे हवाले वतन साथीयो " यह हकीकत फिल्म का गाणेकी रिकार्ड चल रही थी,उन्हे चाहनेवालोकी आँखोमे आँसू नजर आ रहे थे,हम भी बहुत रोये उनके गीतोके याद करते करते......महरुम गायक रफीसाहब शरीरसे गये,लेकीन उनकी यादोको जिंदा रखनेके लिए हजारो अजरामर गीतोका खजाना हमे जीवनभर मरते दमतक गुणगुणाके लिए छोड गये,आवाजकी दुनियेका बेताब बादशाह रफीसाहब जैसा नेक बंदा इस दुनियामे कभी भी होनेवाला नही.

Shakil Ahmad -No Brother, Rafi Ji born in village Kotla Sultan Singh just 15 Km. away from Amritsar ( Punjab) He got his education up to class 4 in school of this village. Later, when he was 13 year old, he was sent to Lahore to work with his brother in a saloon. His first song recorded in Punjabi film- Gul Baloch.

that faqir's name was mehr din muhammad and his family is living in inside city lahore. i got a picture of that faqir from that family and keep it as asset with me. further got lot of new things and learnings of that faqir and rafi sahib's childhood. great asset for me
