Old Woodsman's Cleaver Restoration - No Power Tools Restoration

- This is my first old woodsman's cleaver restoration! I am very excited for this one. This is a Scandinavian type of barking tool or bark peeler. Mostly they are shaped as axes, but not so often as a cleaver. I am sure this is a barking tool because I purchased it from a guy who works in the forest. I haven't found any markings on the blade, so it could be homemade.
What I really like about this cleaver is the perfect balance between length and the weight. I am imagining several hours working with it without any arm muscle tiredness. Handle is made from walnut what I got from greece friend 2 years ago. This was his first attempt on lathe. Anyway, join me in this step by step restoration video without power tools and stay tuned until the end to see the result!

Hey guys!
Welcome to another tool restoration! I wanted to restore this old woodsman's cleaver for a while now. After a year, here it is :)
I tried to restore it close as possible to original and painting in blue is result of that.
Take care and see you around!
You had me right up to the paint. The handle is beautiful. I would have liked the metal to just been a clear coat or some other kind of protection with a polished collar.
Thanks for the feedback!
Another fantastic result FFD, and only using hand tools, kudos mate!
Thanks mate, it was quite challenging this one 😆👍
Very interesting, would love to see this one in action!
Thanks Grant, I will test it out at some point for sure 😉. Appreciate watching man 🍻
I absolutely love this wood. It's so beautiful. I love it used on the knife too. Just a beautiful wood grain.
Hey Latessa!
I don't blame you, this walnut wood has really nice wood grain.
Thanks for watching!
Stay safe

I was very hopeful youde shorten the handle but I love your process and results are ASTONISHING!!!
Much appreciated, many thanks for watching 😊👍
Baking soda and super glue? Great 👍

Thank you 😊
Haven't seen one before! Great work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi Boris, nice restoration. Interesting tool and the handle looks good 👍
Thank you so much Lukas 😊👍
Not seen a woodsman with one of those before, I have however seen such tools in a slaughterhouse.
This is in Scandinavian style 😆👍
Have you seen my walnut rolling pin? I was going to some baking. FFD: Check out my new Bark Peeker with a walnut handle. Cool! Wait a minute.
Lol
No I haven't...
Super job! I'm really enjoying your work!👍
Thanks, much appreciated 😊👍
nice job again ; )
Thank you!
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya
Thank you!
I like how many of your tools are hand operated as opposed to electric ones.
Nicely spotted, thanks for watching 👍
you may want to invest in or make a spokeshave, possibly a draw knife. it seemed like you were struggling a little with that tiny block plane.
Nice restoration of a specialized old knife using only hand tools. I like the blue paint but doubt it will last long in use.
Hi Thomas, thanks a lot for watching 👍
Agree with you about the paint, it is just to preserve it, no chance to last long 😉
Cool
😁👍
와~~~이 칼 좋다...!!!
Awesome job but I wouldn’t have painted it.
Thanks for the feedback and watching!
Beautiful restoration as always brother. I’ve never seen that tool before, what is it used to?
Many thanks brother! It is a bark peeler for logs...
Looks like an old tobacco knife, great job at restoration
Thanks Frederick 😊👍
fantastico hai un canale stupendo complimenti
Grazie mille Angelo 😃👍
Great job both with the video and the cleaver. Is blue the original color?
Hey! Many thanks 👍. Yes, I showed in the beginning of video but maybe is not so visible. Anyway, easiest to see is on my IG page 👍
Take care!
Quando pintou a lâmina, estragou parte de um bom trabalho.
Baking soda & super glue? Can I ask what's the reason or what that does? To fill pits? Thanks. Nice job.
Yes, exactly. It is great to fill pits, you can sand it nicely afterwards.
Thanks 👍
Amazing! Would have checked with a blacksmith first to see if it needed to be re tempered before restoring it
Thanks 😊👍
Where do you find your restoration items?

A strange tool. In Russia, such an tool is not found at all.
Well done job.
Thank you Андрей!

Thanks for watching!
Отлично,но покрасил зря.
👌
Old tobacco kmife ?
Hey Warren 👋😊
I bought it from a woodsman, so I am quite sure it is a bark peeler... beside that there is none tobacco production in Norway 😊
The blade should be naturally look
Thanks for the feedback Youssef

You should use power tools.
Thanks for the feedback!
The only thing that bothers me is the paint. Wouldn’t that make it toxic for using it on food? Isn’t it a meat chopper? 🔪🎸
This is a debarker used in forest, not in the kitchen.
Video was great but you ruined it by painting it blue
Thanks for the feedback. I just painted it like it was before in blue. Thanks for watching!
That 'old walnut piece' was a vintage rolling pin you just destroyed. I'm crying now.
Then again I don't know how rare or valuable it was so maybe it unimportant.
I go from restoration to repair to melting videos and see stuff get wrecked all the time.
Wow, I am amazed! Please *READ* the description before you write comments like this...
I got it from a greece friend 2 years ago. That was his first attempt on lathe and it was bad, so he gave me. It is a perfect *NON VINTAGE* piece for project like this...

I'm glad to hear it because that is high quality wood and given the shape that is the style old antique rollers would be like.
At least I said I wasn't sure but my reaction was of pure dismay and frankly I'm glad I was wrong.
The handle came out well and thankfully you didn't burn or brown it like some people do.
I never read video descriptions, it's always someone pushing their twitter, patrion or discord....ahaa
👍
E` questo sarebbe un restauro...?
Grazie per la visione...
Paint? Obviously you don't intend to use this tool. The paint will only last about 5 seconds
Thanks for watching Joany!
I wood not trust that handle.
Thanks for watching
