  • Artist Brian Moss crams layers of immiscible oil into plexiglass discs, which rotate slowly in front of specialized projectors creating a psychedelic sea of colors in homage to the lightshows of the late 60's and early 70's.
This is wheel #199 if you are keeping track of home.

This video title is misleading. They didn't have oil projection lamps in 199. Party visuals in those days were provided by somebody rapidly lighting and snuffing a candle.

UK Tune Archives candles? Luxury! When I was a lad we had glowing lumps of coal!

The liquid light projector was a toy that you could buy at Spencer's gifts toy store in a lot of American malls in the mid 90's. Sad thing is it didn't seem to catch on very well. Maybe because it was over $100 to purchase. I still have mine that I purchased in 2011 and it works great.

the optikinetics is a more powerful version of that, but with the same concept. You are probably referring to something similar to the Mathmos

@@LiquidLighting yes exactly. I've never heard of the one you mentioned. I'll have to check those out in person someday if possible.

I remember we had an old projector with detachable oil wheels. Must have been old. Such a great effect.

      Hi Jimmy,
To get the oil dripping effect you would need an oil projector. eBay is a good spot to grab opti's: www.bit.ly/oil-projector
To get the effect in the video above, there is a handmade wheel filled with fluids spinning slowly in front of an optikinetics projector
We can license any of our oil wheel clips for commercial use, you are free to use them for non-commercial usage

Yes, [OPTI]Kinetics Ltd. makes Optikinetics branded oil wheel projectors, which is the most common available. Of course there are also aldis tutor projectors, and a even others if you go down that rabbit hole
