Dear Alexi, I remember many years ago watching your series non the BBC. You signed off the last show with a little monologue about how you'd built a career on being an angry young man, and how over time you'd become older - not wiser - and how your career had afforded you rewards which embarrassed you (except that you'd earned them, so it was ok), and you couldn't do a 'better' sign-off from the series because you'd been true and honest and STILL had been rewarded. Man, that was so impressive! It was all true, an elephant in the room - like Oasis trying to continue being "working class heroes" after becoming millionaires - and felt right that you should say it in celebration and humble apology as you did. (I remember that, says Alexi, and you're talking shite - I was ramming it down your throat!) Same here. One of the most valid comments of anything from anyone I've heard in years. Being able to blend both a sense of appreciation for privileges you've been given our even outright earned while still being humble is kind of my litmus test for trying to determine whether someone rich/famous is decent lol While I only discovered Alexei recently (I'm an American and don't think he's as well known here, at least not with us millennials) but from what I've seen he is remarkable in that he can recognize what he has materially is not normal but he can still meet anyone where they are and empathize. And more importantly, imo, is he uses the level of privilege he has achieved to speak truth to power, to highlight those who are being oppressed and lift their calls for help, and he sharpens focus like he did with saying we should stand not with the state of Israel but with Jews everywhere while standing with Palestinians. My adult son is on the spectrum and the news, wars and general decline in the world really affects his mental health. One of the things I introduced him to is comedy, more specifically, The Young Ones, out of everyone, it's your character that makes him laugh the most! We've watched this video together because he needs to know that despite what the news says there are still good people trying to do good in the world.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for Alexei Sayle. Loved his frantic, chaotic, madcap style and mannerisms. If he was doing the Christmas speech at 3pm on Christmas Day I'd be more likely to watch it than the King or Queen doing it. I had an amazing day with my family, all four generations of them, right down to our youngest 2 year old, my great granddaughter. I still dream of a world where all of the people, everywhere, are free and able to celebrate the most basic but most precious gift of all. To be with their family, in love and peace.

I remember must be 40 odd years ago staying up to watch The Young Ones. I was too young to understand most of it but it felt tremendously cool and even then I could tell it was subversive and uncontrollable. I remember Alexei Sayle coming out and launching into some monologue. I had no idea what he was saying, but I knew it was awesome as hell and it was a genuineness I didn't see elsewhere on TV. 40 years later and he's still as genuine, cool and subversive. Out of this whole conflict the people I have admired the most is the bravery of the section of Jewish people who have stood up and admitted the truth of this situation despite the fact they will/may face retribution from their community. They have defended those who cannot defend themselves ignoring any bias/loyalty they may feel. These are the very definition of honourable people and should hold their head up high.
Well said. A few weeks ago l was in a barbers shop waiting to get my mop cut. The lady who owns the shop had the news on the tv. Scenes of devastation from Gaza were being shown . She said to the guy whose hair she was cutting why are the Jews bombing women and kids and old people? He shrugged his his shoulders and said he didn’t know.. When it was my turn l told her that it’s disgusting what is going on there, but many thousands of Jewish people in lsrael and around the whole world are protesting about the slaughter of innocent civilians . The damage that Netanyahu and the current regime in lsrael has done to the reputation of good Jewish people worldwide will take many years to repair . Sadly, l don’t think Netanyahu and his vile government really care. All the best from an Evertonian.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for Alexei Sayle.
Loved his frantic, chaotic, madcap style and mannerisms.
If he was doing the Christmas speech at 3pm on Christmas Day I'd be more likely to watch it than the King or Queen doing it.
I had an amazing day with my family, all four generations of them, right down to our youngest 2 year old, my great granddaughter.
I still dream of a world where all of the people, everywhere, are free and able to celebrate the most basic but most precious gift of all. To be with their family, in love and peace.

I remember must be 40 odd years ago staying up to watch The Young Ones. I was too young to understand most of it but it felt tremendously cool and even then I could tell it was subversive and uncontrollable. I remember Alexei Sayle coming out and launching into some monologue. I had no idea what he was saying, but I knew it was awesome as hell and it was a genuineness I didn't see elsewhere on TV. 40 years later and he's still as genuine, cool and subversive. A beautiful human soul.
