The amount of those types of skeletons I have assembled aeons ago. Cavalry and chariot boxes were the only place you could get the archer arms. The regular box didn't have them so you had to hoard them until you had enough for a regiment.
Two way to fix a blocked plastic glue nozzle. One is to take out nozzle and heat it with a lighter to burn off the dried glue. Another way is to put the nozzle in the other way round and the fumes from the remaining glue will dissolve the blocked glue. Anyway, great video as always!
I had hundreds of skelebobs when I collected WF back in the day, I don’t think my podgy middle aged fingers could glue them these days 😂 nice job on the chariot mate, the rust effect on the scythes was brilliant 👍🏻😃
The first "big" centerpiece mini I ever bought. You've done much more justice to that sculpt than I ever did painting it. If you think its fiddly to assemble, imagine having to glue it back together before every single game as it broke in transit. By the end mine was more glue than mini.
Haha I can definitely see it breaking apart very easily and it being a ball of glue. I was nervous just moving it to take a final photo! Thanks for watching dude 🙌
This was my first WH/GW model, I painted it with some Testor's enamel paints I had leftover from a model car kit I had gotten for my 11th birthday. I really miss the boxes the kits came in as well as the blister packs. Thanks for sharing this.
yeah these and the Skeleton regiments boxes were my goto for conversions. The Chariot and the...I think 20 skeletons was like £5 each so you could pop in, buy them with pocket money and then you had skeleton bits for an age.
@@luketfer That's amazing but I live in Canada so they weren't as reasonably priced unfortunately (or easy to get at my FLGS, it was an hour drive to the closest GW store). I think the Aussies and Kiwi's have me beat on prices and availability issues though.
Looks great man - that bone inspiring my scheme for my Deathwing! I'd love to see this on a modern big base with a bit of a scene but you'd need to do something about the height of those horses. They're a good few cms higher than the wheels!
Yet another great video! Loving the mix of mini's you're getting into, great stuff. Would love to see you do a diorama, reckon you'd do a fantastic job with it. Keep up the excellent work my friend. Cheers,
Awesome video! I love seeing the old undead stuff!!! There's just something about a buncha skellos on a chariot made of bones, or skellos loading burning, screaming skulls into a catapult made of bones!
No excuses about us bearing with you! You are a very good painter!!! Excellent look, I have been painting a bunch of my old Warns knee minis from the 80s and 90s and I love that "Oldhammer" look! Again I love your videos, keep 'em coming!
Love it! The old pre-Khemri skeletons made a fantastic monochromatic army if you can keep up with it. Only recommendation is use a chariot base. The old way of two horse bases with the chariot wheels on the tabletop will always fail eventually, especially with this thin beauty. I re-did all three of my beastman chariots back when they first did the chariot base and have never regretted it.
Mold lines everywhere…..yea that was when plastic kits were rare so likely gws injection molding hadn’t been perfected yet. Can say they’ve gotten better over the years I’ve played 09 to now. As the mold lines have gotten less and less on newer kits. But finding untouched old kits is always fun. Nothing like trying out modern methods on older casts.
Love your channel man, this is one of the first boxes I ever bought as a young teenager. Pleasure to see it assembled and painted to such a high standard. 👍🔝
Hello Dieter, loving the retro series. If you want to progress even further in your painting journey, I will advise two things that will take you to the next level: 1. 4:19 I would say that this consistency of paint is WAY too thick for glazing, and you have way too much loaded in the belly of the brush. When glazing, thin the paint waaay down so it's almost transparent, and hardly load any in your brush (the brush should just be damp with paint) - this allows you to glide the brush over the area leaving only a very fine and thin player of paint and water, creating seamless transitions. Always test the glaze consistency on the back of your thumb nail - if you can see through the painted glaze and see your nail flesh underneath, good stuff! 2. 7:46 Get a Kolinsky Sable brush ASAP. Looking at the split/splayed hairs makes it seem like you are fighting to create thin lines when freehanding or edge highlighting! I would recommend you to spend the extra dollar and get a Rafaël Series 8404 size 1. I cannot tell you how much of a difference this makes! You will also not need to switch between brushes to get one whose belly holds a lot of paint for basecoating and another one for edgehighlighting or glazing - the above mentioned brush will do it all because of the extremely fine tip and belly. I cannot stress this enough - this will be a game changer for you. Also, if you're into looking for the "best" paints, I highly recommend Pro Acryl, Vallejo Metal Color and Green Stuff World Pure Pigments Gold powder, as well as Dirty Down Rust effects. Cheers!
Hey mate! Thanks so much for the advice! I appreciate it. I’ll definitely take it on board and look into getting some better brushes. I’m always looking to improve and I’ve heard good things about those Kolinsky’s so I’ll look into it. Thanks again 🙌🤝🍻
Looks great! Now I'm no authority in painting, nor will I ever be, but wanted to chime in regarding the bone recipe. I agree that undiluted Skeleton Horde Contrast on a bone-coloured base will result in a finish that is too dark, at least to my tastes as well. What I do, which kind of ends up into the same result as what you show in the video, is that I use undiluted Skeleton Horde Contrast straight over the white primer. The brighter undercoat (vs bone basecoat) sort of cancels out the darker tint of Skeleton horde. You will however still want to lighten up the larger flat surfaces such as the top of the skulls, shoulder blades and hip bones (and highlight the finer details of course) in order to get that more bleached effect you're looking for, but using undiluted Skeleton Horde Contrast over a pure white primer does the trick as well, at least for my taste. Great job on the mini though mate, love seeing some vintage Death models on TH-cam. Greets from Belgium!
Awesome vid as always! :D Personally I'd add a few more darker shades in a few of the deepest recesses myself, like the pelvis area, between the torso and arms/legs, just to separate them even more, but overall great look! The old warhammer figs usually look pretty good without too much shading and highlight, as fits the old style of painting, but there is just so much bone on these old Tomb King models that a few more tones would really make them pop even more. Always a pleasure watching your vids, though, and for a relative noob you've come a long way - even the first few minis that I saw you paint were MILES better than most peoples first mini, I'm quite sure. No doubt the evolution of social media has been a great tool for beginners who want to get a bit serious with their painting. TH-cam wasn't really a thing for this kinda stuff when I was growing up and started out my painting!
Yeah if I did it again I’d probably go over the ribs and some joints again to darken them up a bit 👍 thanks so much mate! I really appreciate it! 🙌🤝🍻 It’s definitely a whole new world in terms of learning new skills and what not. Glad you’re enjoying the videos so far!
I had one years ago they werer much nicer than the new egyptian ones and You could actually raise machines during the battle out of the air (ground) both chariots and skullchukka :P
Awesome work! I'm curious why (in these videos at least) you almost never dry brush? Things like the rib cages and spines and stuff are prefect candidates for it and the liner highlighting seems like a LOT of extra work. No judgment or like "you have to do it this way or that" intended. I'm 100% for folks just doin' what they want, just curious. Love the channel BTW!
Thanks dude! Glad you’re enjoying the videos so far 🙌🍻 Good question, I did some dry brushing early on and it left a little bit of a dusty/chalky appearance on some of my darker models and I felt I have more control of where I want the highlights with the brush (I know it’s more effort but I like the brush stroke look 😂) It’s purely just a preference and when I get some better quality dry brushes I’ll definitely do it some more 👍
@@anvilofdoomminiaturesThe chalky appearance is usually because you've removed too much moisture from the paint. The advice of wiping paint off on a paper towel will give you that issue. It's best to use a solid palette!
