    Here's a rough translation.
    0:11 Guard A: Kaneda, It's time.
0:30 Guard A: Here Kaneda, on your feet. Hey, Takahashi(Guard B)!
2:38 Warden: You are Shinji Kaneda, No.350 correct? I'm so sorry to tell you but we just have received an execution order. Your sentence will be carried out from now. Please( Nod to Father).
    3:10 Father: Please stand up.
3:42 Father: Then, I will read Genesis Chapter 13. "After Lot had left, the LORD said to Abram: "Look about you, and from where you are, gaze to the north and south, east and west; all the land that you see I will give to you and your descendants forever. I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth; if anyone could count the dust of the earth, your descendants too might be counted. Set forth and walk about in the land, through its length and breadth, for to you I will give it. "
5:31 Father: Mr. Kaneda, You committed unforgivable sins and have been punished for a long time. But if you can truly repent of those sins and go to the kingdom of God with a pure heart, you will be able to have land, descendants and live there happily forever.
I don't think you are a sinner anymore. I, as one of the sons of God, I give you my blessing, Amen.
8:07 Kaneda: May I drink this water?
    8:15 Guard B: Sure.
    9:17 Guard B: Cigarettes?
9:31 Guard B: You wrote your will? I recommend you to write some for your sister.
13:02 Warden: It could be very loud, so...
    14:55 Doc: Heart has stopped.
15:03 Guard C: Time of death, 9:58 AM.

For those who think the guard pulling down is being brutal, he is actually trying to speed up the death by strangling him quickly, rather than let the weight more slowly do so.

In other words, he was not hanged correctly and the execution was botched. The Americans botched their WW2 executions in a similar way, many of them were strangled to death over half an hour and in one case the front of a prisoner's face was ripped off because they didn't construct the gallows properly. The Brits had an experienced executioner using the long drop method leading to instant death, Albert Pierrepoint, and a dramatisation of his execution of WW2 prisoners can also be found on TH-cam, here th-cam.com/video/IiOGS-_81KU/w-d-xo.html

A Tokyo detention house guard talked about executions in a newspaper article that I read...He said the executions are always carried out in the mornings before eleven am, so the prisons are always deathly quiet in the morning. Death row prisoners are never told of their execution day, so they have the possibility of suddenly being taken on any morning. They sit as quietly as they can, listening for footsteps or any sign that the guards are coming for them or someone they know...He said that after a certain time has passed in the morning there's a release of tension and the prison feels normal for the rest of the day. When the guards do come for a prisoner they don't mention that he is going to be executed, they say, "The warden wants to see you"...Of course, this means they're about to climb the 13 steps.

Dostoevsky's words almost to a letter you just wrote. He was subjected to a mock execution by firing squad before the Tsar's messenger came and said it had been commuted to hard labor in Siberia. But, men were already tied to the post to be shot...that feeling of knowing he was minutes away from death haunted him for all of his life. Naturally, he opposed capital punishment, despite all his conservative views otherwise. He thought it inhumane. I disagree, but it is an amazing thought...knowing exactly when you will die.

Japanese law states that executions are to be carried out within six months. However, that law is never followed. On average, the death penalty is usually carried out after 10 to 15 years. Many may think this is barbaric, but it is a natural consequence of the feelings of the bereaved families.

Everyone here bemoaning that the practice of death penalty in Japan is cruel should do some more reading. The Japanese judicial system does not take the death penalty lightly. The option is considered only in the most serious circumstances - usually murder cases with more than one victim. People often complain about the condemned not knowing his date of execution, but let me ask you, do YOU know the date that you are going to die? You don't. All you know is that you will die one day, it is just that the prisoners on death row are forced to come to terms with that reality. You feel like you will live tomorrow, and the day after, and the next, just because you are not aware of any threat to your life as far as you can see, and that was the same for the victims of the people on death row in Japan. None of those dead victims thought they were going to die that day. None of the victims' families thought that was the last day they were going to see their loved ones. People don't get sentenced to death for victimless crimes. When there is a person on death row, there are often MULTIPLE victims, and that includes the families.

And what about innocent ones? Let me get an idea out - if an innocent is killed (not executed, as that's an euphemism), the all of the involved, the judge, the guards, the priest and the killer (not executioner) should be killed in squaring the debt. Is that fair? Can we expect to see it in the law? Ofc not, they value their lives too much, much easier to make a mistake, when you are certain you wont be paying for the mistake with your head. But that's is as it should be. You fk up, kill an innocent, there your head goes.

We Jews have a totally different outlook on "forgiveness". God will forgive you, for sins you commit against God, if you sincerely repent your misdeed. But there are unforgivable sins. Sins and wrongs that you commit against your fellow man can be forgiven ONLY by the person you wronged. You must ask him personally for forgiveness. If granted, what you have done is forgiven. If he refuses to forgive you, and you sincerely tried to repent that wrong, it is over, you cannot do any more. If you kill someone, how can a dead person possibly forgive you? He can't, and neither can God. For a friend or family member to say he forgives his child's murderer to us is absolutely ludicrous, bordering on stupid. You have no power to forgive. You can say it till the cows come home, you cannot forgive a murderer, God cannot forgive a murderer, Jesus cannot forgive a murderer. It is an unforgivable sin.

@arturrybakov546 The problem with the United States is the time between sentence and execution is usually several decades. If it were done within a reasonable amount of time, it would probably deter a lot of crime. I do like how the Japanese do not give you the execution date, no last visits from family. We baby the death row inmates with last visits with their family members, whatever last meal they desire in most cases.

The published list of those sentenced to death in Japan goes back many years and appears to be reserved for those involved in multiple murders. Once sentenced there seems to be quite a prolonged period during which appeals can be made and the case and sentence fully reviewed to ensure it is valid so I have no issues with that aspect, however, the condemned should in my opinion at least be aware of the date set but only possibly 24 hours prior, it seems a cruel and unusual extension of punishment to leave them sitting day after day wondering if it is their turn today. As for how they treat them after the execution it is only right and proper they treat them with dignity. They have paid for their crime with their lives and have nothing left to give society after that.

The only thing is that the vast majority of convictions are secured through pressure by experienced mental manipulators, so that people often end up confessing to something they have not done. Japan's justice system is riddled with such cases.
