This is what Toyota has been planning all along. They have built such reliable vehicles that it rarely saw the dealership for any major issues. So they made money up front for all the sales but made a little to nothing in maintenance. So they decided to make a crappy line so that the Toyota Techs have something to do and earn. It's kind of an "F'd" way for Toyota to go this route.

Hey I have to say, this is the first suv that has used a transmission 6 speed automatic transmission in a while, most of the unreliable ones come with 8 speed to 10 speed automatic transmissions and to be honest those engines are not terrible if you break it in right when you first get one and change your oil on time, the last time I’ve heard a vehicle in the Toyota family have a 6 speed automatic transmission prolly was the Camry back in 2013 to 14 I promise those transmissions are almost bullet proof, I have a 2013 Toyota Camry se with a v6 and a 6 speed trans it’s so smooth and is so reliable I just had to share this I hope this SUV is a wake up call if it’s reliable compared to the others because that transmission is amazing.

My husband says Toyota did it to protect the hybrid system, it’s still annoying. I do get around 30-31 miles to the gallon on the high way and 27 in town. My biggest issue is when hitting the gas the car down shifts hard which causes a jerk when trying to go. It doesn’t happen all the time but every once in a while. I have own this Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Limited (same color) since January 2024 and the only real complain is the fuel reading. I had let the fuel reading go all the way down to 2 miles, and the most I ever got is 13 gallon and 350 miles of range. I average around 23 mpg. Other than that I'm pretty happy with my purchase and I'm not to worry about the airbag recall. As of now, looks like Toyota have the "remedy" to fix the problem. I still need to take my in for that service. Yes, I do agree that Toyota should of have an option for middle row bench seating on the higher trim but overall, the captain chairs still work for now as my kiddos are still small where they can go back and forth without opening the door. The powertrain surprise me the most, with the combination of gas and electric, it gets up and goes pretty quick considering how big and heavy it is. 0-60 (5.5)sec. and quarter mile (14.5)sec. I did a trip driving over the cascade mountain and I was still able to pass other cars no problem in high elevation. I also drove on sand at the beach and it did great. This winter, I'll be testing it in the snow at Mt. Hood. Overall, the Grand Highlander have been a great all around, family hauler.

The fuel issue is a long discussion topic among GH owners. You are correct that the software is overly conservative in its estimation and makes us fuel when it still has 5+ gallons. Many owners have complained about this issue but Toyota doesn’t seem to think it’s an issue.

Man, I love watching all of your videos, but I can't believe you don't mention that there is currently a stop sale on these due to a safety issue (especially when pitching it as "family-friendly"). I will tell myself that this was recorded prior and the video just got out late. Toyota needs to get back to what made it the brand everyone loved, reliability and affordability. Given all of the issues with the Grand Highlander, Tacoma, and Tundras, it appears they have lost their way.

I'm still scratching my head as to why Toyota went this route with the powertrain. They chose to take the legendary 2GR out and replace it with a 2.5 4 banger turbo. Toyota could have done a 3.5 2GR with a supercharger, then mate that with an electric motor. Heck, the 3.5 V6 Toyota's in AU had a mild supercharger already. They should have built upon that. Oh wait...that would have been too reliable for Toyota...nvm.

I’m in Canada. Similar issue with the gas tank. Gas light comes on with 30km to empty and when that goes to 0km it changes to REFUEL. The car can drive another 80km with REFUEL on. Just with gas light on it can do 100km. I took my GH to Toyota and they connected the computer and it shows how much gas it had when it was empty I figured out the reserve is very conservative. Annoying but you also do not want to run out of gas with a hybrid motor. Hopefully toyota can provide an update so the light doesn’t come on too early.

It's not a major recall. It's toyota being nervous because of the past issues with takata airbags. I saw a new tx350 about a month ago rolled over and the curtain airbags all worked and windows were open. I have pics too

You relax and let Bitcoin do what it does best. It will get there. For example, Bitcoin oscillated between resistance and support for almost 6 months at the $20k plus level in 2023 before breaking out. Range-bound is common, no need to panic.
