Paramedics assigned to these ambulances are burning out due to stress and workload and physical attacks. Many have gone back to being firefighters. Its a matter of priorities, and ambulances are not high on the list. Also 5 of the CFD tall ladder towers are broken with no budget to fix them, so they gather dust until such time as funds are found to fix them. But Chicago has found $300 Million dollars to house, feed and provide free medical care for illegals.

It's really a mess now. When I was a kid we would go down there to visit my grandmother and the neighborhoods were soo clean and beautiful stores to shop in. Now it's just full of drug addicts, trash, needles, etc... everywhere and most of the businesses have shut down. It's a horrible mess.

You think drug addicts are happy? Especially when they become homeless? Getting off fentanyl/heroin or any hard drug isn't easy. I know people who wanted to get clean and tried but the addiction is so strong, especially if it runs in the family, they just don't even want to live anymore bc they can't get clean.
I've held people I loved as they cried bc they wanted to stay clean but just couldn't. Been to rehabs, therapy, na/aa .. I lost a lot of loved one to drugs, and trust me, they weren't happy with their lives
Fentanyl withdrawals are absolutely horrible. People withdrawaling from alcohol, can actually die while going thru it. Some addicts don't have any real friends, family, or any type of support system, which is crucial to getting and staying clean.

It's hard to believe that this area was a nice, clean and thriving neighborhood that had beautiful store fronts, and it was safe to walk to the record store on a Friday night and buy a 45rpm for 75 cents at the Record Spot....those were the good old days. Why aren't the drug dealers being locked up, don't know who they are, just look for the healthy looking people that are hanging around the meth heads that are OD'n on the sidewalk.
