Interesting interview, Andy is a very thoughtful and relaxed artist. His observations about beginners are bang on correct - I should know, I´m a beginner. Although, in my case I am not frustrated by the perceived difficulty of watercolour painting. I am just in awe of its ¨magic" as a painting medium, the way it has unpredictability, the blending and bleeding of pigmented water follows laws of nature and less of the mind, our controlling mind has to let go a bit in order to enjoy the process. Progress may or may not come, depending on how much one practises.

Thanks for a nice video, tips and interview.
I find it interesting that good artist say watercolor is difficult. For me that never could draw, bumping into watercolor last year (because I wanted to know what I gave my niese in present. Learn a trick or two and maybe get quality time with her, doing something together.)
I'm not good at all. I probably do a lot of obvious mistakes every time, even painting along with instructions. But to me, the colors themselves has some kind of magic that has nothing to do with my skills. I haven't tried any other type of paint in my adult life. So I only got this experience. I would guess my personality would prefer getting black "dark enough" and be able to correct and paint over. But I'm really not sure I would be so happy and surprised when it's finished.
The first painting I did was total catastrophe and it felt hopeless. I didn't stick around waiting for it tro dry. I got sad and angry, that I wasn't even able to follow a beginner tutorial. So just left it. The day after I took a look at it before I was gonna throw it, ...and oh.. it wasn't good. But it had grown up or something. The night had made it more "arty" or something. (Probably the transparency was part of it.)
Later I've experienced the wonderful things that happens when it dries.
