Thank you for giving a voice to this topic. As a survivor myself I also have a daughter AND a son. I’ve worried about BOTH of them being victimized and have always spoken with them about what to look out for and to always speak up, tell me, never feel wrong if it feels wrong and I will always protect them against anyone. We worry about our daughters but we don’t always worry about our sons. But evil doesn’t discriminate.

I can‘t even imagine how he felt when he got the letters to read for the first time. Must‘ve been totally retraumatizing.
After all the shit with the false allegations & social media picking up a pitchfork, his wife leaving him, loosing his friend Aaron Carter etc in a short time span I’m not surprised the letters triggered him into relapsing.
I don’t know if I could’ve handled it or just give up.
He is very strong for seeking out help and finally speaking up and making a change. I admire him for that. He‘s a hero in my book.
Wish him nothing but the best.

Thank you for sharing Drake's story. It is very difficult for young men who are survivor's of sexual trauma to talk about their experiences. Society tends to look at the survivors with skepticism and not believe that a young man imight not ready for sexual experiences. I know from personal experience, that the guilt and shame of having this done to you is something that never goes away. The idea that 40+ people wrote letters of support to the abuser is absolutely disgusting, and I could not imagine having to read those from people you considered to be your friends.

I have a son who was groomed by his employer(s) years ago. They played on his youth, and fed him alcohol and abused him. To this day, they walk free. He like Drake, was too embarrassed esp being a male, and more importantly being character assassined which was certain to happen if he pursued it. The damage these adults do to young men and women is so much more than we really know. It’s taken him years (and he still isn’t thriving yet). For me, there is no comparison in offenses between what Drake was accused of and what those SOB’s did to him (and countless other kids).

Those letters were so shocking to read. I was so angry reading them so I can't imagine how Drake must have felt. I'm glad that Drake sought help in 2023. There is also a stigma associated with rehab and I'm relieved that he didn't feel too proud to seek help. It makes me happy to see him doing so much better now, working on himself, and that he's continuing to do what he loves.
He didn’t deserve all the lies and misinformation that was spread about him even by "reputable" sources (looking at you The New York Times who only made a retraction after the documentary). I wish that people weren't so quick to jump on a bandwagon and repeat what they read without properly looking into it.
I hope that Drake knows he has a lot of people who support him. My year was so different last year because of him. I rewatched Drake & Josh and I fell in love with Drake's music. He has also got me into listening to a lot of music that I had never sought out before. I hope that I can see him in concert some day. His new album Non Stop Flight is amazing.

      @Widgeonify 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

@mushitay2024 He replied to a girl who sent him messages. He blocked her after learning her age. There was no predatory intent to engage with a minor. You can't equate what Drake did to what happened to him. He was reckless and irresponsible by replying to a girl he didn't know and not making sure that he knew her age. However, this is not the cycle of abuse that people want it to be. The girl claimed that more happened but digital forensics and witnesses proved these claims false.
Another example of misinformation is changing his name and running away to Mexico. He never changed his name and he has been regularly travelling to Mexico since 2008 because his music is popular there. He was living in LA with his wife and son when people were saying this. People just twisted it to fit their narrative. The New York Times also falsely reported that he was a registered sex offender which is shocking that a "reputable" newspaper would publish such a thing since it is so easy to check the register. They only retracted 3 years later after the Quiet on Set documentary.

Let your kids know often that they can share anything and everything with you no matter how embarrassing it may feel. The victim often feels like they share the guilt even though they shouldn't and that doesn't make sense. When I was abused, my mind compressed it immediately and it was 32 years later when it suddenly jolted back into memory. It felt like it had just happened and even as an adult it was extremely difficult to tell to someone including parents.

He came forward as a CSA survivor in a documentary called Quiet on Set. He was groomed & s3xually abused when he was 14/15 years old by a dialogue coach Brian Peck.
When he finally took his abuser to court (the 11 charges were horrifying), Peck got a lot of support of Hollywood elite. They wrote letters of support so Peck got a really light sentence (16 months in prison, but he only served 4).
In the documentary & Drake describes how these traumatizing events impacted his life and mental health, as well as the people close to him.

I didn’t say he didn’t do anything wrong, I said that there have been lies vastly spread about him by the media that a considerable number of people believe, and based on your response, I would guess you fell for those lies too. He’s not a RSO, he was never charged with touching anyone, and he ultimately pled to disseminating matter harmful to juveniles (for sending inappropriate messages, although the prosecution found no explicit pictures were ever shared by either him or Jane doe) and attempted child endangerment (since it was *his* show that she got into as a minor at a 21+ club, and the laws in Ohio put that responsibility on him). It’s worth noting that the prosecution found zero evidence of any physical contact between them, and ample evidence that they were *never* alone together, and that he did indeed block her once she admitted her age. He was still incredibly irresponsible for communicating with her in the first place without knowing her, but his actual actions are a far cry from what was reported and is widely believed.

@@samanthajones5211 Did I say, adults should abuse teens or kids or other adults?
NO! So you just pre-judge and twist what I said.
You are probably a bigger problem, with lacking propper sexual educations in your post purtian country.
Do you know how many teen boys are labeled sexual predators in the USA?!?
You need better sexual educations and understanding, also to protect your children and teens.
Do you know how to treat people that are PDF? I mean psychologically? How to keep your kids safe form them? It is not by not speaking about it! It is also not with fear mongering! It is not by sexual repressions! Look at the sexual abuses in the Catholic churches. You do understand these things?
Can you look at your culture more critically?
They get labeled teenage heart throbs. Your child stars are sexualized no matter how you look at it. They are "cute" / "attractive" (symmetric) so teens/kids will fan over them. They get casted on looks, and "talent" to obey and please.
You need to look at the bigger picture. And talk about the core issues.
Not openly and canditly talking about this stuff is part of the problem.
But when there is actual talk about it, you immediately start pointing fingers. Because is it an unpleasant topic which should be discussed in order to understand it and fix the problems societies face.
So me personally wanting to actually have this problem fixed and talked about now is the problem because I don't say the talking points you wanted. Can you see how you are part of the problem. Secrets and silence are like a cancer that grows!
*I DID NOT SAY ADULTS SHOULD SEXUALLY ABUSE MINORS.* Even if the teen was technically flirting, looking for attention, acting sexually, etc.

@@MistyMitchell-b5o My point being is that there should be an equal, fair, and respectful approach towards youngsters. Other cultures have fewer issues, as the numbers suggest. There are plenty of red states and home-/religious school settings where sexual education is lacking. I am not making this up. A 14-year-old, who did what, with what intentions, and what background? How old would my younger child be? What is innocent? I know of plenty of stories in the USA that should have been treated differently from the beginning, and after things happened as well. Some cases could be rehabilitated, some not. They would all need some kind of punishment, etc.
Thus, I am also stressing once more the need for good sexual education, not the abstinence-only approach. And better treatment of youngsters in general. How many stories are there about abuses in religious settings, and the children even lacking the understanding?
I hope these sources help support my point and contribute to the discussion.
Guttmacher Institute: This report discusses the state of sexual education in the US and highlights the inconsistencies and shortcomings in various states.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): This page provides information on the effectiveness of sexual education and the need for a comprehensive approach.
