- Welcome to our annual Monster Energy Preview Shows for the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The season will be kicking off in just a couple weeks inside Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, and the competition is expected to be fierce. Racer X's Jason Weigandt welcomes Steve Matthes and Jason Thomas back as the trio prepare you for what to expect out of the upcoming season.
In Episode 2, a trio of double digit main event winners headline the show. First, two-time Monster Energy AMA Supercross champion Cooper Webb has moved back over to Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing after five successful years with KTM. Can Webb work his magic on the blue machine this time around? Ken Roczen has remained with Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki where he enjoyed a decent amount of success in 2023. Kris Keefer joins the show to discuss why the Suzuki works for Roczen, but also why Webb has an uphill battle joining back with Yamaha. Finally the enigma of Jason Anderson who followed up one of the best years in his career in 2022 with no wins and a sixth place points finish in 2023. Maybe it's just an every other year sort of situation for the Monster Energy Kawasaki man though according to Matthes. Let's dive in to what we expect for these three in 2024.

After seeing roczen this off season I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a consistent podium guy… he’s not out there as a “top guy” with pressure, he’s out there having fun which is a very dangerous thing for everyone else!
As much as wed love to see kenny get title wont happen getting a win is def possible a win or two they really got the suzuki dialed being same frame this year as well
Need more Keefer on these types of shows, the guys breaks down bike tech so well even the average joe understands what’s going on! Great stuff!

I feel like Barcia should be in this episode, seeming as how he was better then 2 of those 3 guys last season. But it is what it is, I like him better as an underdog anyways.

I pull for mookie as much as the next guy but unfortunately he has yet to put together a full season. Impressive speed at times but consistency has always eluded him. Could he get his first 450 supercross win if the stars align absolutely but at this point in his career hard to imagine he suddenly puts it all together. Loved to be proven wrong though seems like a genuinely good dude.
I agree that Roczen might be slept on this year. He has looked fantastic recently and he seems very happy. Watch out!! Also he has shown that he can match Jett's speed in moto last year. Can't wait to see A1!!

Hunter finna surprise all of you
Webb being close to tomac in points last year was a mirage. When you have 2 guys or 3 who are head and shoulders above anyone else like in the 87,88,89 johnson, ward era. It doesnt matter how dominant you are. Like tomac was last year. The guys in second or third can just cruise around for podiums and still be only a few points back at the last couple rounds. Johnson dominated one year and ward was clearly the second best guy. So when johnson got hurt it was wards title. And you say oh, ward was right there when johnson got hurt though. Yeah but it was a mirage. You cant stretch out a points lead when you go 1, 2 for 12 rounds then crash and get a 15th or dnf.

I think that Roczen is being played down a bit. He has been racing SX a lot in the off season and also managed the overall at MXDN. He is going to be far better than he was at the start of this year and he expects to win, even up against the young upstart.
My A1 picks are Jett, Kenny, Tomac, Hunter, Sexton.
Stamina....he just doesn't have it
Good for a race or 2, once he has a bad round the excuses start and he fades

I think you'll look back and think Hunter should have been show 2. He's winning at least a Triple Crown leg, if not a race this year.
Hunter is 100% gonna do better than Webb and Anderson. Just look at Paris Supercross where he had only 2 Weeks on that 450...
Thank you!! Every acts like Jett is heaven sent and like Hunter is beating him at the test track every other day. They’re very similiar on intensity, cardio, riding position, and I’d give Jett a bit more in the talent category but Hunter is made for a 450 as is Jett. I could see both of these two finishing anywhere from 1-3 at the end of the year. Excluding injury best believe Hunter is every bit as capable of winning as Jett. It’s supercross and it’s a different beast from mx.
100% is a bit overconfident, but it's a reasonable prediction that he will.
The Lawrence Boys will be hard to keep up with and even harder to beat.

I think Hunter is gonna do great too but Paris means almost nothing, last year brayton beat Webb in Paris n then Webb was one of the 3 title contenders at the end of the season. If u woulda judged his performance off Paris you’d think he’d be outside the top 10 for reg sx
@@ladylog5470 Paris definitely doesn't mean nothing. While you can't really tell too much from a poor performance there because they still have plenty of time to get better, you can tell a fair amount from a good performance there, especially when gauging a rookie's feel for a new bike. You could easily see that Hunter had adapted to the 450 in a snap. He was right at home on that thing.

The Factory Yamaha is a world apart from STAR. My understanding is Yamaha hand picked everything, but STAR took KTM's approach and only changed what was needed. AP confirmed worlds better
Where is Barcia?? I kind of feel like they are putting Anderson and Mookie in there just because they are more popular. Barcia was wayyy faster than both of them last season. He was even faster than Webb for a lot of it.

I think Eli is the one guy that can get in Jett’s head. Sexton won’t be as fast as he was on a Honda. He was making up almost a half second in the whoops at almost every race last year and unless KTM performed some miracle, that bike isn’t capable of that kind of whoop speed. The wheel base is too short. Cooper will be middle of the top 10. Roczen is going to be a dark horse and I really think Anderson comes out swinging this year too.
Webb will be in the exact same place he was last time on the YZ450F, it’s still a heavy pig with a big frame. The KTM allowed him to cut under every other bike in the corners. That will not happen on the Yamapig. He won’t blast it like Tomac did. Sorry Weege, you may not like hearing it from me but by mid season you’ll have no choice but to agree because you’ll see it with your own eyes.
It's lighter than just a few years ago, I raced one. So I can say the new bike is better all around from handling, real solid in the whoops and improved useable power(Tomac has definitely had influence here). I'll race one this upcoming spring that's how much I love the bike. I know that doesn't mean much coming from a local pro but I can say it's improved from the 17-21 years. Now will that help Webb, probably not, but that dude has surprised me before so we'll see. Whatever happens it should be a great sx season.
I ran Maxxis before. I wasn't happy that the tread patter wasn't straight. They seemed to slow me down. Is that in the past?

This season is going to be pretty lame. East Coast is so weak. Basically Deegan Vs Privateers. West Coast will be good. 450 will be more Jett domination with some Roczen in the mix. Eli is old and dont have Beast Mode anymore.
