I completely understand dealing Skubal and I’m usually always on team trade. I just feel like I don’t want to see the tigers sell again and get nothing in return
Scott Boras doesn’t sign extensions unless the player himself demands one, so unless Skubal changes agents, there is no chance that he signs an extension.
Tarik literally, for whatever reason is the only pitcher the tigers score runs for, when he's on the mound. The other pitchers on the staff minus Kenta maeda could be aces on another team that provides them with some run support. Jack Flaherty too, is another pitcher where, very rarely are the tigers hitting when he's on the mound, and so, he had that start around a month ago where he struck out 14, and during the game it looked like he might strike out 20, and he didn't get the win, he got a no decision for a masterful pitching performance.
I mean I hate the sound of it but for the right package there’s an argument you have to consider it. Kenny’s point about losing him for nothing is spot on. Chris has refused to spend real money since becoming owner
It sounds like a good idea, but The problem is that I don’t think that’s going to work because of what they’re doing at the plate. There’s a chronic problem in that clubhouse which is causing players to regress. Remember everyone thought they were going to do better after 2021 because they played 5 months of competent baseball that year, but then in 2022 they all somehow forgot how to hit? I mean, *everyone* regressed. We supposedly had really good prospects come up through the farm system and then when they get to the majors they forget how to hit and they can’t adjust. Tork and Keith are the is the most obvious examples of that. Javy is another obvious example, he completely regressed and lost all of his power. Sure he struck out a lot when he was on the Cubs and Mets but he had over 30 home runs in 2021. But when he comes to the Tigers he somehow forgets how to hit. They’re doing something in that clubhouse that is causing players to regress. And unfortunately I don’t think any kind of trading is going to fix that until their approach a the plate changes. But like you said, it’s clear that the front office doesn’t care about winning. Illitch clearly doesn’t because he cares more about buying casinos in Atlantic City New Jersey than spending the money necessary to get a good baseball team for Detroit and it’s good people. He just wants a semi-functional baseball team he doesn’t want to think too hard about, so he’s running it like a cutthroat business. I unfortunately don’t know what to do about it. How do you tell two billionaires that we deserve better than the crap they’re giving us. A Skubal trade was a good idea but I just don’t think it’s going to work. F****** sucks.
Doesn’t matter. If they keep him they won’t pay him and he leaves. If they trade him they won’t get anything in return either. It’s a lose lose situation, which is what the Tigers do, lose.
Bottom line: The Tigers are way better at developing pitching than hitting. So that being said, the only way they're gonna obtain legit bats without overpaying is to trade pitching for hitting. I would without hesitation trade Skubal at the deadline to either the O's, Rockies, Jays, Dodgers, Cubs, Brewers, or Yankees. All these teams are bat-first organizations. This is Harris' only play!
not the same thing, verlander was on the wrong side of 30 coming off an injury and looking for a new contract. 2 yrs of control is super valuable to a team like Baltimore
@@amanpanjabi2998 Baltimore doesn't need to give up talent for Skubal. Their rotation is strong as it is. They're trending in the Dodgers ditection of having organizational depth that can lead to a decade of contention. They won't give that up for an arm they don't necessarily need.
@Everybodyhasapryce i think they would think differently. I'd want skubal if I was the the os that's my favorite non tigers team. I think they would very much like to have him against the yanks, dodgers or braves. They aren't giving up Westburg or Henderson or anything crazy like that that's for sure
I'll give you a better idea. People always said the ford family should sell the ream, for the lions, but what the lions needed is someone in the Ford family who cared about winning and they found that in Sheila Ford Hamp. So, obviously the team will not be sold, but, the tigers could find someone else in the illitch family who would care about winning. My pick would be Denise illitch, she's a lawyer, and a member of the board of regents at the university of Michigan.
If you use the Dylan Cease trade as a benchmark, Skubal isn’t going to get you as much in a trade as these guys are dreaming about. The highest rated prospect the White Sox got from the Padres was the 85th best prospect in the minors with no major league regular.
That makes total sense, team has a few pieces but not enough to win, pull a lions sell off your best asset and build the team over 2-4 years and see if it works
They trade one of our pitchers for a guy batting .230. Of course, that would be an upgrade compared to anyone on this team. Who's the batting coach? Brandon Inge?
Do you really think the tigers are gonna be willing the pony up the money to keep him? They are a team that is not willing to spend money, they have one of the lowest payrolls in all of baseball. Even if they were to sign two or even three huge contracts, which they won't, they'd still be in the bottom third of the baseball payroll.
Oriole fan here, like listening to Mike. O’s (for once) actually don’t need a starter. They have their beat rotation in a generation, we are okay there. And no shot they deal Westy or Cowser.
If we trade Skubal I'm done. Trading every good player we get for prospects that won't get developed in the Tigers organization won't do anything good for the team.
Why don't you stop trading guys like Isaak Parades? How did they let him go without giving him a shot as an everyday player? Tigers are a dumpster fire!
Any trade must also include Baez too. I will keep advocating for this until it happens, he has to go. The way our pitching is right now teams will pay that and accept the anvil as well.
I completely understand dealing Skubal and I’m usually always on team trade. I just feel like I don’t want to see the tigers sell again and get nothing in return
Or just spend some money. And keep your pitching.
That would require an owner who gives a shit.
What makes one believe that management can acquire a proper return for a possible Cy Young talent?
We'll end up trading Skubal to the Guardians for four clones of Javy Baez.
Sigh Skubal to an extension or I’m done being a tigers fan…

Hell no

The best plan would be for Illich’s to sell the Tigers
This is the best idea I've seen in a long time.

Harris HAS TO answer the phone if someone calls about Skubal. O's are a great match.
Problem is not pitching we are not getting enough hitting
Sure why not? The Tigers don't care about winning.
I know he's not a Skubal but it would of been nice to trade high on Michael Fulmer at one time...
It’s a fair thought honestly, you’d have to give me a blend of excellent young hitters and few good draft picks for it to be okay.
How many full rebuilds do we need to go through before we can accomplish anything? It's been 11 seasons since we won a post-season series.

@Everybodyhasapryce lol he'd be there best starter and lefty

Skubal is a Boras client. Boras will never let him extend or sign with the Tigers. He has to be traded at some point.

Do it! If I'm not mistaken he has had Tommy John at least once, maybe twice.

If the tigers trade Skubal for anything less than 6-7 TOP 100 MLB prospects (PLUS taking Javy Baez contract) Scott Harris needs to be fired
If we trade Skubal I'm done. Trading every good player we get for prospects that won't get developed in the Tigers organization won't do anything good for the team.
Yes do it. They won’t be able to use him anyway and by the time they could he’ll be somewhere else.

Tigers are a dumpster fire!
They need a new owner period
Trade Manning for some hitting prospects
How about the tigers just work with what they got and stop playing musical chairs . I blame hinch coaches the owner the managers
Just blame the owner.
The Montreal Wolverines
No thank you.
Scott Harris is a trainwreck
How about fire Hinch. He sucks!
What about him don't you like? And what does he need to improve on?
@jayclean5653 doesn't know how to hire a hitting coach. Lets Baez play. Doesn't let leftys bat against lefty pitchers. Should I go on?
Just stop
The Yankees have no everyday prospects that they’d want to trade. That’s a non-starter.
Yes they do, either Jason Dominguez, or Spencer Jones.
@@Josebats89 And they don’t want to trade either of them.
