- The end of an era. I achieved this run after 18000 attempts of essentially nothing but dying across a three year span of grinding. The run was achieved on a real N64 console and gv-usb2 capture card and livestreamed on twitch. The run uses an exploit of the neutral position on the control stick to obtain faster speeds than intended. Setting the neutral position to the down position and then holding up allows you to move roughly 80% faster. A diagonal neutral position allows even greater speeds, but is only used for specific sequence breaks.

This game gave me nightmares for years.
Super-scary.
It's funny, I've been watching lots of Doom videos lately and thought "this isn't quite as scary as I remember". Then I remembered Doom 64. That was the one that scared the piss out of me. The sounds and graphics really creeped me out. I'll never forget my first time trying "Watch Me Die" walking down one of the first few halls a pink Demon (that isn't normally there on easier settings) popping out of a wall from behind me and making me jump out of my skin. I immediately turned the game off in a panic LOL I think I was like 9 or 10.

In german magazines they were telling us in the reviews that Doom 64 was a big flop and got only 30 of 100 points. I totally missed one of the best Doom-Games.

same in sweden they said it was total failure but this is so much better compared to doom 3 in my opinion one of my favorite games on n64 also and in my steam library right now.
I bought it now for N64 and love it. Because of the missing function of looking up and down its better and more fun to play than duke nukem 64 which has the same or similar engine.
Because in duke nukem they just didn't know how to use the n64 controller to place all the functions like jumping, moving, looking etc. All in all the n64 controllers are not made for shooters. But the turok games really handled this better

why is the animation to load in the end screen for each level odd. And why are you able to go past the save screen after each level?
I'm not doubting your speedrun, but I just find it strange
not sure if i understand what you're asking about the "load in the end screen". as for the save screen, it only shows when you have a memory card in your controller (which I do not have connected)

Hey Grav, I was wondering if you are currently routing or playing around with the idea of speedrunning Doom 64 on the re-release? I am interested in picking it up to speedrun myself but I'd be interested to know if it's slower or faster than the original.
Its substantially slower. No lag = no clips.
also you can not move as fast on the re release

Can you explain what all that time in spawned fear running around out of bounds was for? Seems you could have just opened the exit door with the pain elementals and saved a bunch of time.
is it just me i have over 100 hours on steam on this game and many more as a child on the nintendo 64 where the lvl gone with shit ton of bombers and spiders with a big grenadier at the end big up and down white map if i remember on the 64 its not on the steam version my fav lvl

Of the old school doom games, this has the most interesting levels. I always found the other earliest ones way to bland imo
doom 64 is, in my opinion, the best doom
So I posted a comment about Doom 64 on the PS4 and people didn't like it.
Seriously everytime I post a comment about me playing on PS4 someone just insults me.
I looked it up and people hate playstation because it isn't the console they chose, probably the STUPIDEST reason I've seen by far.

I always thought I was a pro at this game.
I'll be settling for "pretty good player" after watching this. I am nowhere near this level of efficiency.
On a side note...really not a fan of glitching through walls and going out of bounds. It really devalues the spirit of the run.
It would've been infinitely more enjoyable to see this played through as a legit run.
It was still super impressive.
