2 things I can tell you with 100% fact. 1. Learn the law and stop saying yes when the cops ask for your permission to take you out of the vehicle and search your car. 2. If your car is registered to California and you know mods are illegal STOP doing those mods or you give the police every right to give you state refs and citations. The only way around this is to move to another state that has less laws around mods or create a corporation in another state and transfer the vehicle to that company. Then you’re just an employee driving the car for work. But learn the laws around how long a out of state vehicle can be in California before it needs to be registered. Get an attorney to give you your options. As for the cops. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. You need to learn the game. Best of luck.
While refusing to be searched is completely in your right, it can land you in more trouble. It's a double edge sword. If you're going to be an ass to cops, they will do the same to you. The cop could have arrested him and towed his car. Your chances of this happening greatly increase if you don't cooperate. It's just how it is. So the smart move is to cooperate fully if you have nothing to hide.
File a complaint so IA (Internal Affairs) can get involved at this point It's cleary abuse/harassment. He for sure watches your vids and is keeping tabs on you. Car guys getting arrested for their modifications, getting arrested for what they do in their car documented on video. Information and knowledge is power, when you display your life and your hobbies so publicly like that, you are giving police a lot of power..... You are basically giving police ammo against you.

People all over California with stock cars deal with this as well, even my friends with completely stock cars deal with this. Some deal with it due to modifications that aren't even listed as something you can't do in California.
@@zupermxn On top of that, I have a feeling his intake is probably CARB legal, he just doesn't have the sticker and possibly can't get the sticker. I haven't dealt with a state ref on my fc yet (I pray to God I never do), but I had emailed K&N about getting a sticker on an intake I had on my car, and I got a response back saying I didn't need one for some reason because it was CARB compliant. Some things are unfortunately just out of people's control over here. And there's a clear abuse of power across the board that needs to be dealt with.
If you do file a complaint, be sure to mention that you suspect he is stalking you on social media and that you feel uncomfortable. That last part should trigger some extra attention from the PD. They don't need stalker perps on their force. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger bro!
I would definitely brush up on the laws and contact a lawyer to see if you can take any legal action against the cop or the police department. I would strongly suggest having a personal lawyer that you could call in a situation like this. My buddy has a lawyer and has gotten pulled over a few times for crap like this and whenever he asks the cop if he can call his lawyer the whole situation changes, and the cop just let's him go with a "warning."

As a man who lives in a family involving many different military personnel and members who work within a police facility, Chris YOU NEED to hire an attorney and get this settled asap. I hear about stuff like this all the time. If it’s 4 times this same cop has recognized and stopped you, that’s straight up harassment/targeting. I guarantee he watches your videos. Getting a lawyer is not cheap. The money spent to get this "one" cop off is only a matter of time before another cop takes his place. You can stop one, but you can't stop them all. On my newer cars, I buy all CARB approved goodies just for this reason. I wanted a Whipple, but only Procharger had it's product approved. So Procharger it was. That's the way to play it safe. Seriously....I grew up in California, and I also love modifying cars. Still, over the years of getting harassed by cops in California and just the pain of dealing with emission laws when it comes time to smog, I ended up giving up my hobby of modifying cars, and it's been killing me. I'm at the point where I'm considering moving out of California so I can resume my hobby in peace.

I have a heavily modified Jeep Wrangler in Minnesota (hoping to get a wrx soon), and I had the exact situation. The same state trooper pulled me over multiple times citing me for bullshit laws. It got to the point where I had to take it to court and explain that the state trooper was legitimately stalking me. For example, he knew which Target I worked at, and would park in the trees right by that road and pulled me over multiple times. What a joke!

I think others have already mentioned it, but definitely get a lawyer and try to get the misdemeanor thrown out. I'm sure there is some protection against what kind of charges they can give for non moving automotive emissions violations. That misdemeanor will follow you and will affect you if you apply for jobs and overall your regular life if you don't get it taken care of.
We had a CHP officer in El Dorado county that did this to every single person that showed any sort of sign of modifications, cosmetic or “performance”. After about 10 ppl getting cited and constantly getting solo’d out, we had the entire car community (about 200+ ppl) in the area including old heads file a complaint to IA and he was told to step down from his position and become a desk jockey. Took about 2 years timeframe for this all to happen but it was very worth it, including one person who went the extra step and filed a lawsuit against him and won for harassment and loss of wages (staking out his route to work before work for about 1 month straight). Worth a shot man. Thats stupid.

1:29 for the intake I understand he ask for the CARB sticker you supposed slap in on when installing. This had happened to me before luckily I had the sticker inside my car I showed him & he just told me to slap on and its all good.

Key is always be calm. Cops are always looking for Tuners. It’s free money for the state. I got red flagged for intake that had a carb sticker, and since AEM started offering colored options, they updated the CARB EO number. Luckily AEM was able to send me a second CARB sticker. Then next time I smogged they changed the EO number on my Catalyst and changed 1 digit so I had to change my Catalyst again this year with the exact same cat but a new stamped number on the housing. Then they said my Spark Plug wires modified the ignition. I said the ignition is factory but the wires are upgraded, which means there is more spark but has factory timing and ignition, so it burns more fuel so it’s an even cleaner exhaust. They said it was the cleanest car they had tested but I needed the new carb exemption. This is on a 24 year old Honda Accord Coupe I have owned since new and has all carb stickers, and catalyst, and resonator, and muffler. The intake is louder than the exhaust even. It’s insane.

Once an officer says you’re under arrest and reads you your rights, don’t answer questions! Get a lawyer and if they ask something just remain quiet or say you will not answer questions without your lawyer. They will take things you say out of context. Move to Maryland. For 12 years i drove my honda civic around without getting pulled over. Catback exhaust with twin loop muffler, lowered 2 inches, 16 inch wheels, boomin sound system. Also drove alot to Pennsylvania with no problems, Delaware no problems, Virginia & West Virginia no problems. I even had police compliment me on my car. Maybe its the west coast vibe out there. one thing I have learned recently from where I am (Ontario, Canada) the cops have been MONITORING (not a joke unfortunately) Instagram accounts for small car crews (for meets) not only that they've started to station cops at some bigger crew's meets (I truly wish I was joking right now) the worst part is that our laws arent as strict as they are for you in cali unfortunately. What Im trying to get at is its pretty likely that specific cop is monitoring your youtube channel or possible your instagram then if he sees you while hes out he'll pull you over. Has he ever given a reason for stopping you before checking the car?

I haven't dealt with a state ref on my fc yet (I pray to God I never do), but I had emailed K&N about getting a sticker on an intake I had on my car, and I got a response back saying I didn't need one for some reason because it was CARB compliant. Some things are unfortunately just out of people's control over here. And there's a clear abuse of power across the board that needs to be dealt with.

I would definitely brush up on the laws and contact a lawyer to see if you can take any legal action against the cop or the police department. I would strongly suggest having a personal lawyer that you could call in a situation like this. My buddy has a lawyer and has gotten pulled over a few times for crap like this and whenever he asks the cop if he can call his lawyer the whole situation changes, and the cop just let's him go with a "warning."

As a man who lives in a family involving many different military personnel and members who work within a police facility, Chris YOU NEED to hire an attorney and get this settled asap. I hear about stuff like this all the time. If it’s 4 times this same cop has recognized and stopped you, that’s straight up harassment/targeting. I guarantee he watches your videos. As a car dude this hits hard. You want to express yourself and build your car to your vision. California is hard. I buy pre 75 vehicles when I want to dump all the goodies. On my newer cars, I buy all CARB approved goodies just for this reason. I wanted a Whipple, but only Procharger had it's product approved. So Procharger it was. That's the way to play it safe. Seriously....I grew up in California, and I also love modifying cars. Still, over the years of getting harassed by cops in California and just the pain of dealing with emission laws when it comes time to smog, I ended up giving up my hobby of modifying cars, and it's been killing me. I'm at the point where I'm considering moving out of California so I can resume my hobby in peace.

I have a heavily modified Jeep Wrangler in Minnesota (hoping to get a wrx soon), and I had the exact situation. The same state trooper pulled me over multiple times citing me for bullshit laws. It got to the point where I had to take it to court and explain that the state trooper was legitimately stalking me. For example, he knew which Target I worked at, and would park in the trees right by that road and pulled me over multiple times. What a joke!

I sold that car and bought a Porsche Cayman and now I'm in a Corvette and I haven't gotten pulled over once in the last 10+ years. I'm sure there is some protection against what kind of charges they can give for non moving automotive emissions violations. We had a CHP officer in El Dorado county that did this to every single person that showed any sort of sign of modifications, cosmetic or “performance”. After about 10 ppl getting cited and constantly getting solo’d out, we had the entire car community (about 200+ ppl) in the area including old heads file a complaint to IA and he was told to step down from his position and become a desk jockey. Took about 2 years timeframe for this all to happen but it was very worth it, including one person who went the extra step and filed a lawsuit against him and won for harassment and loss of wages (staking out his route to work before work for about 1 month straight). Worth a shot man. Thats stupid.

1:29 for the intake I understand he ask for the CARB sticker you supposed slap in on when installing. This had happened to me before luckily I had the sticker inside my car I showed him & he just told me to slap on and its all good.
Personally, I’d file a complaint with his department, and ask who his superior is. You need to officially have that in their system against him so he needs to tread lightly and think twice the next time he thinks of targeting you. Also, what’s his name and badge number?

Key is always be calm. Cops are always looking for Tuners. It’s free money for the state. I got red flagged for intake that had a carb sticker, and since AEM started offering colored options, they updated the CARB EO number. Luckily AEM was able to send me a second CARB sticker. Then next time I smogged they changed the EO number on my Catalyst and changed 1 digit so I had to change my Catalyst again this year with the exact same cat but a new stamped number on the housing. Then they said my Spark Plug wires modified the ignition. I said the ignition is factory but the wires are upgraded, which means there is more spark but has factory timing and ignition, so it burns more fuel so it’s an even cleaner exhaust. They said it was the cleanest car they had tested but I needed the new carb exemption. This is on a 24 year old Honda Accord Coupe I have owned since new and has all carb stickers, and catalyst, and resonator, and muffler. The intake is louder than the exhaust even. It’s insane.

Once an officer says you’re under arrest and reads you your rights, don’t answer questions! Get a lawyer and if they ask something just remain quiet or say you will not answer questions without your lawyer. They will take things you say out of context. Move to Maryland. For 12 years i drove my honda civic around without getting pulled over. Catback exhaust with twin loop muffler, lowered 2 inches, 16 inch wheels, boomin sound system. Also drove alot to Pennsylvania with no problems, Delaware no problems, Virginia & West Virginia no problems. I even had police compliment me on my car. Maybe its the west coast vibe out there.
