Creating a NEW LEGO CITY LAYOUT!

  • In this LEGO City update, I made some huge changes! I started by removing a bunch of structures - that freed up 13 baseplates! After that, I shifted over the residential buildings and rearranged the downtown core. The new less crowded block layout has longer roads, more sightlines, and is less crowded. In addition to completely changing the layout, I also added the Ninjago District back to the city! There is still a ton of work to do but I am pretty excited about working on this new layout!

    I love watching you rearrange the city. If the zoo wasn’t so attached to its position, I’d say put Ninjago back there, almost like it’s hidden. But no matter what, you inspire me to grow my own city, so good job!

    Fantastic! The previous layout was great but this one feels so much more open and lets buildings like the Avengers tower stand out. Tbh, I like where the kwikemart is below the train tracks. 😊

    I like this layout. It opens everything up. You can see the mountain view obs., the castles, the amusement park, Ninjago mountain, and everything without having to bend and weave or pop up thru holes.

    Got to agree that the tall buildings at the back look great. I used to laugh about a year ago when you said that you had nearly finished the City. I always used to say that just like a train layout a Lego City is never finished. You don't seem to mention finishing the City anymore!. As more Lego arrives it will always change so never be finished.
    Cheers Jordan and many thanks for what you do.

    Just an idea to put the construction site by the avengers tower. It can act as though a battle took place or the city is being built up to the sky scraper height.

    I know changing all of your city on to MILS was a pain for you back in the day, but wow it's paid off - can't believe how much you've changed in 1 day and it looks great. I personally also really like the sitcomplex next to the bowling alley - can imagine Thor nipping in for a game when he's finished chilling on the roof :)

    Looks so much better, the new layout makes the city seem much more open being able to see through the longs strees, while the old layout kinda cut you off with the horizontal street

    My thoughts is remove quickie mart, move Venetian houses there. Plus some green /water space. That way all the water houses are within the same block or two. Nice job. I also would move the town hall block with the diagonal alley block. This would line up pop culture. The construction site isn’t very pretty from the room entrance view. I appreciate that you aren’t afraid to move around everything…and basically having to redo a lot … mostly roads.

      kwik-e-mart defniitely needs to go. It's too prominent in this city from the camera positions we are constantly seeing. Need something far grander there.

    Looks amazing! I do think ninjago city looks pretty out of place though. It either needs to be right against the left wall by the docks, or maybe at the back. It may look more natural with the monorail running between the two halves? Keep up the good work 👏

    For a city that size the hospital needs another floor or two, loving how the city looks though! You could also reduce the size of the Kwik-E-Mart by removing the parking lot and making it a walking entrance instead.

    Love the new layout! You could build like a Central Park-type area behind the Botanical Garden. Maybe make like a big stage with a rockband playing on a podium/stage. Would look very nice and an easy way to get more population in the city.
    Btw, some people seem to get "angry" sometimes in the comments, it's Lego people. Nothing is or needs to be permanent. When I make MOC's, they are never finished. I like to improve them all the time. So just do your thing, Jordan, you do a good job 👍

  • @FelipeVinhao
    @FelipeVinhao 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The taller buildings are much better on this new position. They still kind of hide the medieval area and the park, but as most of the time we visit the city in motion, it's not much of an issue. Everything is more visible now.
    One thing that came to my mind seeing how those placeholder roads looked like: maybe as a project for when you have a bigger area, have some sort of wide road / boulevard, with 4 lanes and an arborized central area.

    I would love to see the skyscrapers moved to the far right of your room, under the shelves. Then transition to businesses like the bowling alley, gas station, hospital, etc. Next would be residential buildings, with the amusement park beside the beach, campsite, and zoo. Better sight lines, and more logical layout. I would also remove the Venetian houses. Just my thoughts.

    Yeeessss! I think organizing the city with that grid is a great success! Now you can see more facades of the buildings, although I would change the location of the Palace Cinema because you can see the empty back of its tower. Including Ninjago City is ideal!

    Hello, awesome new layout! As a European fan and because you are testing some new things I wanted to share my opinion on what makes a lovable city in my country, it might give you some ideas 😉
    1) use a less roads as possible. Use one way roads or walkable lanes instead. This will open you so much space and give you room for more stories.
    2) it's OK to have a lot of buildings and a lot going on, this will make your city more lively.
    3) skyscraper are good to give the city some heights but don't put too much as it will block the view on the rest of the buildings. This will also allow your skyscrapers to pop more.
    That's it for me, of course the most important thing is for you to have fun!

    I think u should take the build of the construction site and complete it use the base to create an actual skyscraper
    Also if u modified the spring lantern festival to be on water plates u could place it around the ninjago area the aesthetic of the 2 could blend together fairly seamlessly

  • @kendricklamote
    @kendricklamote 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Two changes I would do:
    I like the new positioning of the Avengers Tower but, since it is a 4-sided building, it is a shame to loose two of the four sides. So, I know you need space but you could move the Ghostbusters HQ somewhere else, give one extra baseplate to the avengers tower and centre it on the block, making it accessible from three sides. It would give it as bit more attention, which would be justified since it's the latest set. Also I like the fact that the buggle and the tower are blocking each other. You don't loose almost any view of the city.
    The other thing I would change is a building that I don't really feel like fits the city anymore. It's the university. It feels out of scale. I mean, it's based out of a gothic cathedral, so I think it would be about at least half the size of the bigger buildings and way bigger than the normal ones. It's a university/cathedral. It needs to stand out in the city. Not to blend in, I guess.
    Besides this, I think everything looks great. Just sad to see some of the cool buildings go away, but thats the way to go, I guess.

(I can see what people were saying when watching on my phone today , i usually stream to my tv. ) i also really like that you can see the back raised platform more now, bc that looks so cool and there is so much work you did back there!!

    @jonathan_60503 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Had a thought about those two blank walls looming over the Octan gas station. What about getting some custom printed static cling billboards to stick there? Something that would be easy to peel off if you wanted to part out or modify the buildings - but it's pretty common to have those kinds of walls sold for advertising; so you could advertise, say, your amusement park there.

    Looks cool! I would think about switching the construction site with the Sanctum Sanctorum: Since the incomplete frame of the constructed building kinda ruins the 'hidden' nature of Diagon Alley. Plus, wouldn't it make sense that there's a whole magical street hidden behind the Sanctum? Super convenient when Doctor Strange needs to go shopping.

    13:50 you should create your own billboard for the top of the Octan gas station, its downtown and a small building like that would 100% sell their roof space for adverts. Plus it will cover up those walls.
    14:07 could the bowling alley sit behind the hotel, or would it be too deep?
    ok, last thing... how crazy would it be to raise the land all the way around Ninjago city and making it seem like its a sunken city?

    Overal it looks a lot better. The big buildings being in the back make a huge difference.
    I'm personally not a fan of the farm - both the way it looks, but also its location. I think having a park area there (maybe even incorporate the Spring Lantern Festival into that because the aesthetic sort of matches the Ninjago area, heck maybe even incorporate the Zen Garden as well) would look much better. Also removing the Quick-e Market would allow you to really incorporate the water into a park area. You could maybe have some smaller modular type stuff on the downtown side in that case.
    Lastly I would personally eventually remove all of Diagon Alley and make it into its own thing; it just looks a bit weird where it is in the city and feels out of place imo.
    Keep up the awesome vids!

    Something to consider to see if it works is to move the bowling alley over by the parklands at the end of the residential street in front of the access hole in the far left. So, you could make a U shape of buildings with the diner on the left, bowling alley at the head, and I would maybe think about putting the quick E mart opposite of the diner. You could then sorta have parking spaces servicing all three that would potentially free up additional base plates because there would be less need for parking space in front of both the quickie mart and the diner. Maybe consider reducing the size of the baseplate the quickie mart is on to free up more space to boot
    The bowling alley sorta fits in a more residential space and would add a little height over there without blocking anything and also fits into the “recreations” space that exists over there.
    Not sure how you would want to do the road between the residential and forests. Maybe a single lane?
    But wanted to also say thank you for all your content and everything you do to make the channel welcoming. Love seeing y’all’s day to day with the family as well as all your hard work with the lego city.
    P.S. I like the imagination station. If it’s not in the city, any way to display it in the lego room? I’m guessing not given space constraints.
    Y’all take care!

    One suggestion for later: The bike layout could be optimized as well, going only from one park to another, passing through a station… something like that, more like straight lines or T-shapes instead of passing all around the block like in the City Hall and his beautiful fountain square. I think robbed the vibe of the small square being surround by bike lanes.

    The city overall looks much much better.
    If I may suggest, the Farm should be removed from the city. It doesnt really make much sense for it to be in the center of a city, around buildings anyway.

    Don’t forget to move the levitation over to the tower 😉 and what about making some destruction story to the road near the tower?

    I love these change videos. So entertaining to watch. I like the new prospective from the back. The hospital tho, it’s kinda of blocking and doesn’t fit from beach view back (where you usually film)
