  • The Cupcake Collection has become a Nashville institution, and its founder Mignon Francois a local hero. She built a $10 million cupcake business starting from almost nothing, and you’ll learn how she did it in this interview.
Starting a cupcake business? There’s no better place to get savings on tools like Canva, Wix, Vistaprint & many more: www.elevate.store/upflip/2
Mignon started The Cupcake Collection in the midst of the 2008 recession. She was experiencing a downturn of her own, and used just about the last $5 to her name to buy ingredients for cupcakes. Mignon wasn’t a baker, but she had her grandma’s cupcake recipe and a will to succeed. By the end of that first week she’d turned $5 into $600 and the growth snowballed from there.
One way Mignon made a name for The Cupcake Collection was by starting the Cupcake Bus, the first mobile cupcake seller in the Nashville area. In this interview, she talks about how she got that idea and why it was so instrumental in growing her baking business. She’ll also share how she found the first customers for her cupcakes and built her team-all without going into debt or taking out any loans.
After the success of her first shop, Mignon opened a new location in New Orleans. This new location was an opportunity for growth but it also brought new challenges. She explains how she overcame those challenges and the lessons she learned along the way. One thing Mignon has done from the start is listen to her customers and team, and she shares how that feedback has helped her grow her business to such impressive heights.

He missed a very crucial thing she said. She didn't say make your employees feel appreciated, she said give them a piece of ownership. Make them feel like owners - by having stakes in decisions, stakes in making profits, and shares of the profits.
I love how she doesn't see herself as being a benevolent boss who provides jobs, She sees this is a means for everyone to share in the come up. Her humility is awesome... AND profitable.

@@moneymanifestation9505I don’t know who’s making 10 million in sales off of a hobby? Sure it’s no amazon but it’s definitely a successful small business. Ntm the costs of a store front bakery are quite low in comparison to that number. She literally made 60 cupcakes with $5 at the start, her margins are probably pretty good if she’s able to continue expanding.

    Love this!
The listening to your customers to grow is so true!
My husband started our equipment rental business with $10 in the bank. When he followed God’s calling to quit his job and start we didn’t know how. Within a week we were gifted money and had a few small equipment loans, loans and credit cards had been completely rejecting us until that week.
So, he started with a few items we already owned and a loan for a small piece. He then would write down every request that came in and when he saw a pattern for the same equipment would pray for a sign on if he should buy it, cash if he had it or a loan if large like for the boom lift. If God gave the sign he went for it and almost every piece has already paid for itself plus in less than 2 years.
So, remember you are helping your community and to put their needs first for a business to flourish.

It’s going great. August is slow due to the heat here in Texas but we have been really blessed. Construction on our new location just began. A local developer offered to build us a customized location at twice the size and a full 4 acres for only $300 more a month than what we pay in rent now. We also get the option to buy after 10 years.
God and our county have been so good to us. We are almost personal and business credit card debt free, almost all the small equipment is paid off, we are able to buy our own food and tithe regularly (we were using a food bank before the business started), and we will be buying a home, moving out of our RV, this coming year. We also had a baby this past year (actually in the company truck, LOL) so so much has grown and improved.

    • @kristadavis2825
      @kristadavis2825 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Oh, the new location is such a blessing outside of the cost. Due to the August heat, we learned that not all of the equipment will fit into our current building. So, what doesn’t fit has to be parked at our home overnight. Everything will easily fit in the new building and once we save the money we will fence in the entire property so large equipment can be stored outside.

So inspiring Mignon! As a one-woman show running a small home based tarts business, I started flipping the profit slowly until I could afford to get a better mixer, promote branding and ordered off custom tarts boxes. The fundamental basis when one open a food business is make it with sincerity and customers can taste it. To all women and men starting off their own business with little money, go for it, show up and you’ll reap the rewards.

You go, Crystal! Keep believing. God has a plan and a purpose for your life that is uniquely yours. Even on the hardest days when you don't know what that is or what that looks like, just remember that there are "good works" that God has ordained for YOU to do "before the foundation of the world". Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, give you wisdom and discernment, and give you the power to accomplish God's will for that day.
I love the saying, "Do small things with great love" because it's often the things we think of as small and insignificant that have the most profound and lasting impact.

So much wisdom here and I love how the lady keeps saying 'I believed...' and acknowledges how faith plays a huge role in our success. I also love how she said 'I promised God that if He made me successful I would tell anyone who would listen...' I am so encouraged by this video, especially starting from the bottom and I hope to share a similar story one day. I am encouraged by how she's doing a lot of what I am praying about and dreaming to do with my business. Thank you for this video. God bless you 🙏🏾

I originally read the 10 million wrong so when you said it in the video I was taken aback and I immediately got teary eyed. How inspiring!!
