Music is beneficial when it arouses an emotion or a mood within you. it's not necessarily about being melodic, religious or overtly musical, but about carrying the listener somewhere where he was not before. In this case, I feel like sitting on a cemetary bench by a warm evening. the wind gently caresses my face, and everything is silent except for the nature around me 🐸

    Quite inspiring.
Nørgård has a pretty broad back catalogue apparently, not that I have heard any of it yet.

Beginning is linked to symphony 3. But veey very different in direction and how quickly are its changes and timbtal shockaffronts.Againanother eemingle high descending figure but their are more distractions this time! background is thematic too and different and takes over. Microtones and more of fighting ,collisional narrative here! Outdoors music.viola solo! Beautiful, entrancing, sinister in places!

We usually clash, I agree with you very much in sentiment about there being continuity from his symphony 3. As I observed with Henze - and now I'm moving to my formulation not yours, you might strongly disagree! - Norgard like Henze is writing one symphony sorta kinda over and over again and thereby achieving fantastic new results. I think one can say this of numerous 20th century composers starting with Mahler and to include Schnittke, Schuman, Harris, and a few others besides.

Norgard is certainly a master of orchestration: the score and performance are abrasive and powerful, but I personally do not find any connection with the sub headings of the two movements. I am more inclined to feel the aftermath of a tornado! This might appeal to Xenakis fans, of which I am privileged to count myself.

Don't take a title literally! This is a reference to paintings by Adolf Woelfli, and certainly not a descriptive programme a la Richard Strauss!

I agree my friend... no connection at all!

1st movement : Orb Spider weaving her trap.
2nd : From the perspective of the slime growing on the rocks at the bottom of the lake.
      Easy peasy.

At that point it is often worthwhile to go to 0:00 and try again. If you wind up at the same emoji perhaps the composer isnt for you?
