    I have been a machinist for 26 years and use edge finder and wigglers or electronics probes in my machining center
    I don't understand why everyone shows to use an edge finder until it kicks out. This means you pass the center. Do this with a wiggler and you break it. Go with the edge finder until it runs true and bang on the edge. I do it this way to find my center of a bore then I use my dial indicator around the bore to make sure I am in the center and I am always with in 0.001"

      For me at least. If you're finding the midpoint of a part, it allows for a visual indicator. If you're going past for all 4 sides then it shouldn't matter, as long as you do it for all the sides. Same If you're finding a corner.

      @@ZantZ but how far do you pass the center when your edge finder kicks out? 0.001" 0.003" 0.005?. So if you make the edge finder run true you are normally within 0.002" or better

      @@stephgiroux7745 @stephgiroux7745 well I usually move at .001. That's good enough for me and it's one click of the wheel at a time until it breaks. I've done it for a few years now and no problems. That's with flipping parts and it's right on the money. Then again, I'm not doing crazy high resolution or anything. I obviously haven't machined for as long as you so I'm no where near the expertise you have. I'm not trying to say you're wrong or anything I'm just saying that it's worked for me. I do see what you're saying though.

    The INATOOL Flex Edge Finder is a different approach to edge finding and it is fast, easy, and precise. Unskilled machinist can edge find within a couple tenths, first try. If you guys have tried to train new machinist you may know it is difficult to get them to use a wobbler or indicator arm correctly, resulting in scrapped parts. The flex edge finder is an indicator accessory, which makes an indicator a very precise edge finding tool.

    Can someone please explain something to me. Once the wiggler stops wiggling is that not perfectly in alignment and the center is then 100/1000 off center? Once you go past that tiny bit to start it wiggling again, technically you’re off by that much. Is it such a small number that it’s irrelevant?

    • @iansandusky417
      @iansandusky417 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Y'know, I've always just been trained that when it 'kicks' it's technically on zero, minus half the diameter of the tip - but technically, I think you're correct that it's theoretically off by the slightest amount. What that amount is, I'm not entirely sure - but you can hold very very good accuracy without it being a factor as long as you're not trying to hit a tenth on your first pass!

      If it doesn't kick it means it's perfectly next to it. And being next to zero isn't zero

    Can you honestly say that all kicks are the same? I mean I set the dro so that the first .0005 that I see the slightest kick I call that the edge. I'm talking like .010 kick. Anything more than that and it seems like I am going past the edge.

      @@raydash2898 Bigger the end mill, and more importantly, the more teeth on that end mill, then the deeper the radial depth of cut you can take when finishing one edge of the workpiece.

      Yes I agree it’s too easy to go 1 thou or 5 thou I was taught to bring it back of the face until it snaps straight far more consistent. If you are pushing it of it is no longer in line with the shank so less than 100 thou from the edge!

    2:36 "you don't want it to square like that because then you won't be able to see it kick"
    That is absurd. It is ALWAYS "square like that" before it kicks. You and all these guys who keep flipping the edge finder for NO REASON WHATSOEVER annoy me. It tells me you do things without thinking. When you say " I was taught to...." or "I was trained to..." I know I am dealing with a second rate mind.
