The yellow wire is suppose to go to a headlight and its job is to automatically dim the drl when headlights are on. This is a legal requirement in the UK and many other countries.
Many thanks for the information. I am not a user of DRL's, my car didn't have them a standard and I haven't retro fitted them. I was sort of puzzled as to the point of an electronic on/off box when a simple relay would suffice but if they do have to dim then it makes sense that it would be easier with electronics. All the Best.. George
its meant to be installed with a relay. its just a signal to your relay to turn on. the magnetic field but the relay will do the switching of your light.
So this controller has two functions. It will automatically turn on the lights when voltage is greater than 13 volts and turn it off when you turn off engine and battery voltage drops below 13 volts. Which is good. Automatic and no chance of draining battery. Secondly that yellow cable is to dim if you piggy back fuse it into the normal light beam fuse. Also if you dont want to dim you leave that yellow cable alone? Is this right? All in all. Not bad lol
I did this type set up with two controllers, but put an end cap on the yellow wires. The DRL's don't shut off until the negative is unplugged. I believe connecting the yellow wires would create a complete circuit while also bypassing the dim function. Someone correct me if I'm wrong so I don't accidentally wire a bomb under my hood 😅
After about 2 and a half years mine started to not work as intended. Found out when my battery keeps discharging. The lights that was hooked up to these was always on.
I have two controllers on my car but don't want the dim feature. Can I connect the yellow wires together to create a complete circuit without risking a short?
I would like ask to you that this turn off automaticly the DRL when i turn of thr normal dipped headlight on my car? Because the Hungarian traffic rules say, that the DRL can work ing together only with the position indicator light.
Hey George, I took your advise and installed myself, and everything worked fine like you said. However, one day I was driving and used my high beam light, and from then on it stopped working. Any suggestion?
Hey! George My car’s Philips DRL doesn’t go off after I turn off the ignition switch. I doubt the DRL controller module malfunctioning. Where can I purchase only the controller module? It’s ECE Homologated R87
I have no idea if its possible to get any of them separately. I'm not really a car guy but I thought I'd get it because I had no drl on my ford. My Skoda has them and All I know is that they are on when the headlights are off!
no, it just detects the voltage on the battery. Personally, I think it is a poor implementation. I would just have a relay connected to the accessory position in the ignition switch. that way, it can be rated higher and actually only fire the extra lights when the car has the keys in the ignition.
Many thanks Steve. I really don't know much about the running lights rules as my car was never fitted with them as standard. I was basing my knowledge from the description on the chinese website that sold them. It has been a long time since I was interested in cars and fixing them, nowadays I'm too old to be crawling underneath one every weekend for fun!
So all in all... a bit of crap really.

I'm not sure, it depends on the car and the unit you have
@@GeorgeChristofi 02 accord with the J30A1, if that helps..?
@@drewa5075 just tape it off. You don't need to do anything with it

No, these only turn off with the removal of the ignition key.
Dear brother, will drain the betary when car is off position. Reply me please. Thanks
Question i installed same one you have but when i started the car the light will come on then when i start driving the car the light will go off
Yellow wire is supposed that should turns on the turning lights? (indicators right?)
I think that is what it is for. I will have to dig out the unit again to see.
@@GeorgeChristofi If you can to check it out how did you connect it cause mine doesn't work :(

Where is the main power connect to? Battery or factory headlight wire
if I remember it should be battery
@@GeorgeChristofi
If it was a battery, how then did you managed to decrease or increase the voltage to switch the module on and off?
hallo,Is it possible to turn off the dimming option? I would like it to turn off the daytime running lights when the headlights are on

I have no idea. it was just a sealed module with very little info from china
Will this work with smart alternators?

@@GeorgeChristofi the yellow should connect to the headlight positive, then it will dim the DRL when the headlight is ON.
Thanks for the information. Still think it is a poor implementation of what can be done with a simple relay.
How do you reprogram this controller to increase or decrease the time lapse of the DRL going off after ignition is off?
I have this on my car and it drains the battery after some time - 1 month. Why ?
Is it okay not use the yellow wire?
I guess so.
@@GeorgeChristofi yes perfectly fine as long as your main headlights arnt to bright when turned on
Can i ask sir.2 drl and 2 module to intall or i will put 1 only module to light up
I used 1 module to run two 12v lights and it works fine

Think you have got your balls twisted. This controller is simply used to dip the running lights when you dip your main lights ...

Can you really save me 15% by switching to Geico?
This will drain the battery if you don't use the vehicle often.
