Irrigation is defined as the process of applying the controlled amount of water to plants at the needed intervals .
Types of Irrigation are :
1. Flow Irrigation
2. Lift irrigation
1. Flow irrigation is also sub-divided into two cases these are :
Perennial Irrigation
Inundation Irrigation
Perennial Irrigation is nothing but a water is supplying to the crops through the year. You can take an examples as sugarcane.
Inundation irrigation is the irrigation system in which the land is irrigated throughly by saturation and deep flooding processes before the planting of the crops.
2. Lift irrigation is defined as when there is impossibles by gravity flow, the water is to be lifted from a possible area. This action of conveyance of water is known as lift irrigation.
Necessity of Irrigation are :
1. Deficient rainfall
2. Less rainfall
3. Non-uniform rainfall
4. Growing no. of crops
5. Growing perennial crops(throughout the year)
6. Control water supply
Benefits of irrigation are :
1. Increase in food production
2. Addition of wealth to the country
3. Increase in prosperity of the people
4. Domestic and industrial water supply
5. Improves the ground water supply
6. Generation of hydroelectric power
Ill effects of irrigation are :
1. Breeding places for mosquitoes
2. Damp Climates
3. Water logging
