  • In this video I am cutting a practice scroll I designed in procreate. I am also dicussing what I believe to be one of the most importaint aspects of any creative art, drawing. As I have sought advice for improving my hand engraving drawing has been a universal recommendation. I would love to know your opinion about drawing. Leave me a comment and lets discuss drawing.

I recently got a ipad so I can draw in procreate. I really enjoy trying to draw scrolls. I have built one of the homemade engravers but don't know if I will persue the engraving as old as I am now. Lol

,Perhaps cutting lettering, as diversion from scrolls -- as seen everywhere-- would ve good. It could also be a show of talent in curltting whuch is less forgiving if mistakes in cutting as types of lettering are widely recognised by many.

yea one thing i realized very quickly on my engraving is that anything that i can print up and transfer onto metal i can easily engrave, the real challenge always comes in for me with the designing/drawing phase. draw, draw, drawwwwwww

Are these all machinist squares that you engrave on? I was looking for something thicker to practice on, is this a good choice ?

I’ve engraved a couple of machinists squares and they are nice to engrave. For practice plates I use mild steel. The thicker the less vibration you will get.

before using computer generated designs, one should learn how to draw the old fashioned way. Nothing wrong with using procreate or other, but you will never be truly creative and flexible if you're stuck on having a computer clean up your mess

Thank you for your comment. I disagree that creativity can never be achieved by using procreate or other drawing apps. By the same logic an eraser would also be an impediment to creativity. I believe that any tool including drawing apps can foster creativity. Drawing with a pencil is fun and I recommend it but not as the exclusive path to creativity.
